"It appears the coward is somehow still alive." Elac remarked with a small amount of suprise  "Would you have me deal with him, my Lord?"  The apprentice asked eagerly as thier speeder touched down on one of the few temple landing pads still intact.

"You have done well Lord Invictus," Acheron replied, "Have no fear, Aurum will have to wait far longer to take control of the Church. Where are you currently? We need to co-ordinate our attacks and find these Jedi. Once they are destroyed, the Republic will fall."

He turned to Elic, and, turning down the volume on his comlink so as to not be heard, said, "For now Invictus remains useful. If he is lying, and he has indeed cracked under Jedi interrogation, of course, he will have to be dealt with. For now, however, I am inclined to reserve all judgements."

Elac nodded in acceptance of his master's orders.  "We need only remember that Lord Invictus has proven to put himself before the goals of the Sith."

Archeron disengaged the speeder's engine, the landing gears touching down with a dull clunk.

Gracefully hopping out of the speeder, he clipped his comlink to his belt, and drew his saber.

"And you need only remember that we now have work to do, my apprentice."  The dark lord responded.

Lord Invictus twisted his starfighter awkwardly in the opposite direction, bombing the central spire. Glass shattered and flowed down the sides, the Temple profusely bleeding out its life by the second.

"My Lord," Invictus responded, unable to stop bombing the Temple. "I am nearby the central spire of the Jedi Temple. From what I've seen of the Temple, there's little within to pose a threat. Few Jedi remain to defend it, and I don't believe it could offer any assistance in disabling what defenses Coruscant has yet against our fleet... planetary shields, I presume. Might I recommend an assault on the Senate Chambers? Should we pose a threat to the Chancellor, we could certainly attract the attention of the Council, and either the Chancellor or the Jedi leaders would likely be able to enlighten us as to their methods in disabling the shields... given that we use the correct application of-" Invictus' voice trailed off for a moment "... Inquisitorial persuasion."

Invictus' mind expanded, the Force flowing from his ship in all directions... blind, he could locate the Senate Chambers with the Force; he was sure of it. The expanse of his Force sensitivity, in lieu of physical sight, was rather impressive.

"With your permission, my Lord," Invictus continued. "I would travel to the Senate Chambers. Splinter would likely accompany me and... from what I can sense in the nearby reinforcements you've brought, there's another Sith? I would very much like to meet him."

With what little deception Splinter sensed in Archeron, he simply brushed it off. The feeling was normal in most Sith. He flew a Jedi Starfighter, flying near Invictus as a wing man. At this point he pledged his full allegiance to the one who had the will to fight on the front lines himself (Invictus). Not some desk lounging commander that held his rank above the complex minds below him. Sith or not, this man was not deserving of Splinter's, and hopefully Invictus', respect.

Acheron nodded, "We'll meet you there Invictus, I agree, I sense the Temple has grown barren. The Senate Chambers will be far more... lush... with targets."

"With all due respect, my Lord, the Senate chambers will no doubt be a much more fortified target, we would be going to our deaths.  I can also say with certainty the Chancellor is already in a bunker."  Elac advised.  "The Jedi are a symbol, destroying a symbol is much more disasterous than killing a man."

Xjrz's journey to the Temple was cut short, as the bombings that took place upon the Temple plowed through it unmercifully, nearly leveling it to the ground. Xjrz was in a state of confusion, denial and finally near despair. Where was the rest of the Council? Why would they let the Temple fall to the Sith so easily? Almost as he asked himself these questions, he was startled by his comlink.

"Attention. This is Grand Master Ben Vos, I want all Jedi to regroup at the Senate building, the Sith are already on their way, and our defense is almost complete. Repeat ALL Jedi to the Senate Building." he finished and the comlink went off.

Xjrz was already exhausted, he had to find transportation to the Senate Building, and fast. He headed towards the nearest speeder depot, and found a vehicle. He lifted off, and started towards the Senate Building, where he hoped the Sith would be stopped.

"I understand, my Apprentice," Acheron nodded, "And the thought had crossed my mind that the Senate building will be far more fortified. That's why Lord Invictus and Alpha Squadron will be the diversion we need, whilst we find an alternate entrance in. The beauty of Coruscant is that buildings usually have multiple purposes. If we go close enough to the under levels, security will likely be far more lax, or we shall find a way in in which the Force can come to our aid."

The skyline of Coruscant had changed since Sirak last viewed it from the hangar at the Temple. His new vantage point from one of the Senate building balconies revealed a much bleaker picture. No more was there the occasional plume of smoke rising into the air. They had been replaced with black clouds rising from all over the city. The Temple had fallen, and he could only watch in horror as it collapsed in on itself piece by piece. Blaster fire had erupted in the streets. The red, blue, and green lights were visible as far away as the lower levels. These animals were ripping apart the greatest bastion in the known galaxy right before his eyes.

Caught up in the scene before him, Sirak had almost forgotten his responsibilities. He'd recruited himself get to a vantage point and report back the the troops on the battle. When the Jedi had made some mental noted about enemy positions, he turned away - but Sirak caught something out the corner of his eye. He turned back around to confirm what he'd seen. Something was moving in on the horizon. From the distance, it appeared to be a flock of birds, a rare sight on Coruscant. But as they moved closer, his fears were being realized. It was not a flock of birds as he'd suspected. A squadron of Sith fighters and bombers were moving in on the Senate building.

"The AA guns aren't prepared yet," Sirak mumbled to himself. He zipped out the door, down the staircase, and off to warn the troops.

Invictus' starfighter, along with the others of Alpha Squadron- who seemed to accept Force sensitives as their leaders in combat-, spiraled toward the entrance of the Senate Building. After exchanging a few explosive charges with nearby turrets and a massive statue, all serious anti-air defense collapsed... save the Jedi now assembling at the gates.

Invictus' star fighter landed for a moment, before the Grand Inquisitor hopped out.

"Keep yourself unnoticed..." he whispered to the droid autopilot. "And circle the Senate Building."

Invictus raised his outstretched arm, saber in hand. The elegant blade hung in the breeze of battle, pulsing ominously. Directed toward the Jedi contingent, it slowly lowered. Alpha Squadron troops filed behind Invictus, along with Splinter.

"My Lord, I feel that Alpha Squadron has attracted the largest defensive body- the Jedi- at the Senate Gates," Invictus stated into a comlink, his voice unusually dull. "With your permission, I would order a full assault; perhaps we can hold the Jedi at bay long enough for you and your... comrade to facilitate some sort of inner chaos in the Senate Chambers?"

((The Senate defences fell in a paragraph? That's a bit unfair, didn't give Sirak a chance. Oh well.))

"You have done well, Invictus," Acheron replied from the speeder, Elac and himself now descending into the gloom of Coruscant's lower levels. "My Apprentice and I have reached the lower levels, we will be entering the Senate Rotunda shortly."

Elac's face remained blank as the comm disconnected.  "I didn't take Invictus for the brazen zealot."  The apprentice remarked  "Do you think he has any idea how many blasters are about to be pointed his way?"

"It hardly matters." replied Archeron.  "Either way he'll be letting us slip into the building unnoticed, and if he so happens to carve through the legion of troops in front of the gates, then our job is that much easier."

"Of course, milord." replied Elac, as he stared up at the last fading rays of sunlight, thier speeder navigating ever deeper into the treacherous narrows of Coruscant's undercity.

The lower levels of the Senate Rotunda were far less guarded, and Acheron and Elac slipped into the building with ease, fooling the one rusty albeit vigilant sentry droid with a clatter of noise in the opposite direction.

As they entered the building, Acheron pulled out his comlink once more, "We're in," his harsh voice penetrated the gloom, "Invictus, I need you to force your way inside and find some sort of map layout of the building. We need to rendez vous as soon as possible."

((No, not the total defenses. I assumed that the building would only have one or two turrets capable of fending of fighters, but that ground troops would be the focus. I didn't really think the turrets would be significant enough to last more than a few attacks))

"Yes, my lord," Invictus responded reverently; he hardly respected anyone, but Acherus wielded power that the Sith Lord couldn't help from admire. "I will immediately begin the attack."

Then, in a massive unearthly screech, the two Sith warriors charged into the Jedi complex. A few landed starfighters provided basic artillery to break up the Jedi positions, allowing for Alpha Squadron to follow their Sith comrades, closing the distance between the two forces in a matter of seconds.

Invictus flung his blade elegantly, yet carelessly, in flawless strokes, carving, like a butcher, through a Jedi Knight. The Anzat flailed helplessly, he stomach emptying before him as wave after wave of light impaled him.

My revenge... Invictus snidely pondered, allowing lightning to flow through his veins, coursing through every inch of his body; the zeal soon became too much to contain.

Hands of lighting sprung from Invictus's chest and arms, engulfing the dying young knight. His corpse, burnt and shriveled, fell to the ground; one casualty in a fight against perhaps thirty or more Jedi.

Invictus raised his blade, halting a Jedi's blue lightsaber in mid swing. The skeletal fingers of Invictus' right hand released the light from his sword, allowing the Jedi to fall through the emptiness. Then, in that perfect moment, Invictus reignited the blade, plunging it through the human's writhing spine.

The Jedi, overwhelmed with the ecstasy of pain, spasmed like a dying insect on the blade, his last, horrific cries devolving into vomit and gargling.

And Invictus enjoyed it. Every moment of the carnage, the relentless slaughter was like a game... a duel... a hunt. The meticulous, repetitive butchering was like a-

"Aah-!" Invictus screeched, reaching for his left farm.

A Jedi master's blade had just barely nicked the limb... and yet a nick was so deadly to one so physically weak as Invictus. The arm, no more than two and a half inches in diameter, was nearly dislocated. Blood seeped from it, the bulk of it dangling carelessly in mid air.

Invictus fell to the floor, gasping in pain at the injury. Blue flames crackled in one hand... he must stop the bleeding. In determined defiance of the Jedi, Invictus attempted to stand, plunging his lightning-filled fist into the wound.

The Grand Inquisitor roared in pain, the flesh quickly drying, the blood coagulating...

The Sith Lord flung his fist onward, attempting to ignore the pain of the wound. His saber was gone... lost somewhere in the brutal bloodbath of the battle. Invictus leaped forward, seizing an older padawon by the head. No, by the skull. His weak left hand held the human down, pressing the fleshy scalp against the harsh concrete pavement. Invictus' right hand twitched into the proper position, so often practiced on aides and cultists.

The lightning of death penetrated the padawon's eyes, searing the human's face beyond repair... and, conversely, the rays of life incarnate seeped back into Lord Invictus, flowing through his mask into the Grand Inquisitor's mouth... The pain of his arm was alleviated for now...

Invictus, without a lightsaber, seized a vibroblade from his coat, the shortsword appearing less threatening than the traditional scarlet blade of the Sith. The Inquisitor stood up, the very essence of insanity on his lips.

"Jedi heathens!" he babbled, his words now a fanatical, hardly discernible slur. He dramatically extended his arms in a welcoming gesture, his left hanging awkwardly at the armpit. "Who will strike me down?"

And yet, he was ignored. The fight was too massive between the Jedi and Alpha Squadron to pay much attention to him, no matter how dangerous he was. Riflemen began to file from the Senate Chambers, joining the fight in close quarters.

"Cowards!" Invictus blurted, once again unrecognized. He pointed to himself, once more in a melodramatic, unholy gloat. He zeal, or perhaps his madness was becoming too strong... he couldn't handle it any longer. "Is this the grand, united force of the Republic, mustered to defend your leader? No, your rabble is an insult to our cause. You smear the very memory of your fallen brothers on Corellia."

On Corellia... there was nothing greater than looking into their eyes, knowing that no matter how much they strained to look back... there was nothing underneath that mask...

In an inhuman, guttural scream, the Grand Inquisitor leaped forward, burying his blade into a rifleman's shoulder. He flung the blade overhead, no longer caring who he hit. It sliced through a Sith warrior's neck backwards, carving its way into more infantry on the return blow.

Invictus, his insanity without outlet, simply continued his fury through the crowd, killing perhaps four infantry. And yet, Jedi reinforcements crowded around him, the Sith seeming to prevail despite a numerical disadvantage.

Eternal peace.... Invictus recalled his personal chant... his now complete goal.

"Yes..."

There was no pain, no mercy, no feeling but utter and complete rage. The Grand Inquisitor could imagine nothing greater than the world united under the banner of peace, the Jedi slaughtered... rose petals floating into the streets to commemorate the great Sith Inquisitor, leading the men of Alpha Squadron to defeat the Jedi, who never could put up anything more than a pathetic militia to defeat the great warriors of the Sith Empire. All around Invictus, the Sith's immanent victory reigned... Even as bullet after bullet penetrated the Grand Inquisitor's body, he cheered for the triumph he promised himself...

Never ending glory...

"Yes!"

Hundreds of bullets seemed to bury themselves in the Sith Lord's chest, but every one simply added to the ecstasy of triumph. Blood... life seeped through his robes; how wonderful, how fantastic it felt. The Inquisitor's piety... his self-righteousness... he could taste glory-

Everlasting life...

"Ahaha!" he fanatically cackled, lightning searing his entire body.

A saber plunged through his chest, resting calmly for a few moments.

All... a lie.

The golden light around him vanished. Like water down a drain his ecstasy dissipated, replaced with a heart-wrenching blackness around him. The inferno of blue flames around him vanished, sucked back into the bloody, mangled body of the Grand Inquisitor.

A lie.

"No."

Heresy... doubt.

"...No..." Invictus sobbed, blood and tears falling from his masked.

Invictus... unconquerable... dead.... No... It couldn't end like this...

The blade slid out from Invictus' body, Invictus coming to his dark epiphany. Alpha Squadron members were overwhelmed, their bodies collapsing into Jedi-filled clumps. Rank after rank of Senate infantry filed into the battle, pumping bullet after bullet into Invictus' chest.

The Inquisitor fell to his knees, his hands buried in the puddle of blood before him.

Life... Invictus... Unconquerable... LIFE!

He raised his hands to his mask, throwing the odd facial covering aside. His cupped hands lifted the scarlet fluid to his mouth, pouring it in.

"Life! I will have life everlasting!"

Then, with a slick twist of the blade, a Jedi ended the grotesque spectacle.

The psychopath, Lord Invictus, collapsed, the dull glow of his Miraluka eyes fading.
