Prologue
32:9:29
Iziz, Onderon
The peaceful night sky of Iziz kept the Jedi calm through his mission. The starlight was amazingly bright within the walled city. Even at this late hour, the streets were bustling with activity. Sentients from across the city crowded the marketplace while gamblers and drinkers inhabited the cantina the Padawan stood outside of, awaiting his master. Jordan Serus brushed his blonde hair out of his eyes. What’s taking him so long? His master was never one to mingle with the locals during missions, particularly not one as important as this.
“I heard that,” came the cool voice of his master, Sifo-Dyas. “Patience is the way of the Jedi. I trust you know that by now.” Grinning, he gave Jordan a look of approval.
“Yes, master. What do we know?”
A disappointed look spread across his master’s face. “Nothing. The contact was a dud. We’ll have to rethink things.” The importance of this mission could not be stressed enough. Master Sifo-Dyas was on thin ice with the Jedi Council as it was. Failure was certainly not an option. The assignment was just as important to Jordan. A success here could prove his worth to the Jedi Order, something he needed if he was to become a successful Jedi Knight. “Don’t worry, Jordan. We’ll find him. It is the will of the Force. For now all we have to do---”
BOOM
The quiet of the night was destroyed as the cantina erupted into an enormous fireball, lighting the city in a bright orange light as dark smoked funneled into the sky. The shockwave had knocked both Jordan and Sifo-Dyas down in the panicked street where they were nearly trampled by the dozens of fear-driven citizens. “Jordan! Are you all right?” The Padawan gave his master a little nod before picking himself off the ground. The reeking odor of burning flesh filled his nostrils. Even Sifo-Dyas seemed confused and disoriented, adding to the boy’s feeling of helplessness.
The pair of Jedi herded the citizens away from the burning shell of the cantina. In the street, a small uniquely manufactured ship landed. Jordan could tell it was a Republic ship by its markings. He turned to his master to see that he was staring at the man walking out of the ship. A strong aura of the Force surrounded this man, his face barely visible by the light of the fire.
Sifo-Dyas seemed relieved and confused. The man walked towards him with a look of disgust plastered onto his face. “Dooku, is that you? What’s happen--- AGHHHH!!” Dooku had plunged his lightsaber into his chest. With a final screech of pain, Sifo-Dyas fell dead to the ground. Jordan stared in disbelief as the horrendous event took place in front of him. Feelings of fear turned into those of revenge. Dooku could taste them.
The Padawan reached for his lightsaber to destroy his master’s murderer. When he struck down at Dooku, he was stopped dead in his tracks and lifted high into the air. The Force grip around Jordan’s throat became tighter and tighter as Dooku clenched his outstretched hand. Dizzy and weak, the Padawan collapsed in the Dark Lord’s grip and all went black.
“Foolish boy.”
