Not quite true. Planetside and World War II online have already demonstrated real time "twitch" oriented combat as possible in an MMO context. There's several other games like them currently in development. |
So did tabula Rasa, all of those MMO's are dead however, showing they didn't have true staying power, and of course it's being worked on, an MMO with 'twitch combat' will surpass all others, doesn't mean it will work out right.
A recently announced Sony game horribly title MAG is a tactical shooter promising 256 players online at once and all it is getting is skepticism (I don't believe it could be done in an effective manner, not without gimping the game to oblivion). That's only 256, and it seems impossible. Thousands?
I like Bioware, and have faith in them, but 8-player co-op from a decade ago is the last experience they have had with any sort of online, and if you look at the games they have made in the past 8 years (KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, helped on NWN 2), only one has any sort of online and all are too story and choice orientated, something completely lost in an MMO. _________________
