mff created chatbox

I remember the old chatbox. It was fun, quick, and there weren't any rules(well, just common sense ones. no porn, no advertising, and no large amounts of spam.)

It got taken down because of ads. But, I read in the "Rive as Main admin" topic that we could get a MFF created chatbox. So I think we should get one. Smile

So, yeah, vote yes or no.

I think it's a good idea. They had one on another forum I was on. Only problem was, some members hated each other and only used it for flaming.

I did that with anakin. I went under his name and was like" I'm stupid" and he would go under my name and go "I suck and am a retard." It was quite funny.

No, because everytime I had the chatbox, the page would open, then all Safari would close...and I had to use another computer.

Seriously Vexen, it's called firefox. There's no valid reason for you NOT to get it. It will even make your internet FASTER. Very Happy

We are getting more simultaneous logins again (I saw 9 or 10 last night) to perhaps justify it...

I don't know though. The chat thread seems to be doing a fine job...

Chat box:

Pros:
Allows limited communication without logging in.
(Perhaps) reduces "spam" in threads besides the chat thread we've seen in the past few days.

Cons:
Makes the page load slower (this is a big one for me - I log in from many different connection types).
Allows for the previously mentioned flamefests.
Will almost certainly reduce the amount of posts in the chat thread. Leading to lower ranking on the MFF top forums list. (Minor issue, since it doesn't really seem to bring in new members).

Adding a chatbox is a horrible idea. The problem is, it starts to slowly but surely take away from the forum. Instead of talking about SW, games, books , etc on the forum, you begin to talk about them on the chatbox. So while that flourishes, the forum will steadily die down because people don't feel like taking the time to start topics because they feel the chatbox is much more convenient. Who wants to join a dead forum anyway? Keep the chatbox out, it's called PM's for a reason.
