2009 - 1977 = 32
If I was making a Star Trek video account it would say I was 43 (2009 - 1966).

Nice try though Wink

Devrin asked where I got the idea for my sigs in another thread. Figured it was more appropriate to answer here:

Generally I'll just make/use a sig based around something I'm playing/watching off the site.
Spoiler:

Be it Battlestar

Or, uh, Battlestar

Or Doctor Who

Or Resident Evil

Or advertising Rebels on our (former) sister forum.

Or Terminator

Or, uh, Terminator

Or... Termiantor (Gah, why did they cancel it?!)

Or a new Star Trek movie being announced...

VERY occasionally I'll just have an urge to do something random. I had an urge for an Imperial Themed sig with a strange looking ship:

As of late, I've mostly used my signature spot to promote things I'm involved with on the forum:

So obviously the ideas come from numerous sources. If you're asking about actual composition...

This latest sig:

The "idea" simply came from the name itself. It needed Ackbar. And it needed a target.

The target had the death star hologram cut out from this image:

Ackbar didn't need to be cut, I just put this (cropped) in the background.

The text uses the same "Tie-Wing" font our current site logo uses ("REBELS"). Whenever I do text, I'll generally duplicate the layer, then blur it out a bit, then duplicate the blur to make it darker. Then change the color of the blur to something that contrasts with the background and text colors (black in this case). It makes the text waaaaay more readable and looks pretty cool.

Rive is truly possessing of the mad skillz.  But unfortunately Rive has also reminded Dakoth of the yet to be completed Lies of Bakura and angered Dakoth.

Awesome sigs Rive, very jealous of your ability to whip things up in a matter of an hour or so.

I think you have the wrong picture of the Death Star hologram though, the one in your sig looks to be the one from the end of the battle when Ackbar is telling the fleet to move out of range.

Well you have *somewhat* of a good eye.

I did link an image from the right moment of the movie, but not the exact image I used.

Here's the one I linked:

Here's the one I actually used:

Same image (or a few frames apart). The second one is just much much higher quality and has better color contrast.

Yeah I spotted the little triangles I assume were the craft going in to destroy the main reactor.

Since people seemed somewhat interested, here's a breakdown of the rapidly generated (under 10 minutes) signature I just made.

Spoilered for 9 image series.
Spoiler:

First we find an image basis we want to use.

Then we cut out the part we want.

Then, in this case, we add a lightsaber blade.
I do this by making a simple square with a round end selection, then "feathering" that out by 5 or 10 pixels to blur it. Then putting white in it.
Then duplicate that and blur it out further and color the duplicate whatever color you want (green in this case). Then merge the two layers together for a single blade layer.

Duplicate the blade layer and rotate it to form another blade to complete the staff.

To make glow text, I first make the text I want - then duplicate it (not shown).
Then I blur the duplicate to make something like this:

Then I put the original text on top of it.

This text was done the same way - but I just copy and pasted it from a previous signature to save time.
I also threw a drop shadow behind the character.

Finally, we throw a background image behind all the layers we have. A cave in this case.

And here's how the layers ended up looking.
