I recently found a pretty nice and simple online system for making dice rolls electronically and emailing them.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trying a more stat-based roleplay game (similar in style to Dungeons and Dragons or similar RPG games). I'd play the "gamemaster" - setting up the environment and playing all the enemy characters (and maybe one allied character).

Everyone would set up their character by distributing points into various skills and attributes (only a few this time around to keep things simple). Then, during the course of the game - various actions would require rolls to see if they were successful.
People would make the rolls using the online tool I found and send them to an email account I'd set up (to ensure that people are honest about their rolls).

As implied by the title, I'm thinking the first one we'd try would be a non-canon reimagining of "Kallibann: A World Without Sin" - that way many players would already be aware of the basic environment and plot - so it wouldn't be diving into something completely new.
The above is partly a lie, click for the real reason.
Spoiler:

I don't have the frakking time right now to be dungeonmaster in completely a new story! I need to be able to copy and paste stuff from Kallibann! Razz

Anyway, could be fun. Something different.

I also apologize in advance for any errors I make. I don't play Dungeons and Dragons or anything similar offline  silent

I've never tried anything like that before. I know my roleplay activity isn't that high, but I'll participate if it's interesting enough.

I've thought about doing something like this before. I'm in, though I don't have much experience with Kalliban or the dice system of RPs (I do have a general idea, and I definitely know a few things about setting skills and that sort of thing).

But surely we could make up the rolls we send you by e-mail? I'd be interested in participating, and I'd be honest, I just see it as something where a lot of debate could arise.

That's the beauty of this. The rolls are verifiable. So no debate will take place.
I've been looking for something like this for a long time and I finally found one that works and is easy (you don't need to sign up or anything).

http://www.pbegames.com/roller/

The only place a debate could take place is if someone thought that I and another player were in cahoots - me (and they) saying that their rolls were higher than the really were.
If such an accusation was made of me doing that, (although I doubt it would - have I ever done anything here dishonest really?) then the person making the rolls could add the accuser to the list of (up to 5) emails receiving their roll verifications.

Alright, cool. Here's the simplified system I was thinking about using (we can expand it to a larger, more traditional and detailed system if this happens to be successful). Tell me if I'm missing anything that's really essential (remember, I'm trying to keep it simple though).

Statistics:
Health:
Will:
Interventions:
Conditions:

The current status of your character in the game.
Health is how many points of damage your character can take before they die.

Will points are used for special skills and attacks.

Interventions are special points that let you reroll a bad roll (you'd email me a second one). You only get a couple.

Conditions is a listing of status effects on your character (such as poisons).

Attributes:
Vigor: Affects your health. Also affects savings throws involved with getting hit in combat.
Agility: Affects how easy it is for you to hit an enemy and how easy you are to hit. Also affects how many "interventions" you get.
Cleverness: Affects lots of out-of-combat skills (such as detecting traps). Also increases your will.

Traits:
Choose 3 negative and 3 positives traits that will affect your character.
(there will be a list of traits posted to choose from).

Special skills:
Skills that affect your character. They will have Vigor/Agility/Cleverness requirements associated with them.
Choose... mmm... probably 8?
(there will be a list of special skills to choose from).

I'd be up for it, but I'd need a run down very specifically before the game started on how everything worked.

I like it. I think it'll give me a chance to add some more depth to Sirak Sazen.

I'll do this.

I believe I used my assassin character Shin Kai for the Kallibann RP, so I'll stick with him.

I actually didn't expect such an immediate and positive response to this. Very nice to see.

4 players (I said 3 originally, but Vexen's posted while I've been writing this rather long post) and a game master is a good number. This can go forward now.
I'll go as high as 7 or 8 players though if it turns out more people are interested.
Any more than that and things turn into complete chaos when you're dealing with numbers.

Well like I said, I haven't really done this at all offline. Most of my knowledge comes from video games with D&D like systems. But here's a basic rundown.

You still want to write your posts out in detail - as in a usual roleplay. Characters and plot matter. However, you're a bit more limited since you can't describe rooms until I tell you what's in them and you can't describe the effects of your own actions until I tell you what those effects were.

Also, what actions you can make are determined by your character's skills (although some actions will be universal, of course - like moving from room to room).

Every skill will have a dice roll associated with it. You can make those rolls and email them to me via the online tool I linked. Your character will also have skills that affect those rolls.

I'll check the email account I've made for the game. I'll verify the rolls and post the results.

In other words, it's half story and half game.

Here's a sample situation that might make things more clear (I'm not using Kallibann here though or peoples real characters - just a random adventure in a pirate hideout):

Dungeonmaster Rive wrote:
Korus, Sirak, Jiub, and Skod - you all successfully enter the room to your north.

It's a pitch black. You can't see very well.

Jiub wrote:
"Blast it, my glow rod burnt out awhile back. Would you provide us with a bit of light, Xander?"

Korus wrote:
"Not a problem." Xander says as he activates his lightsaber - casting light on the room.

Rive Caedo wrote:
Xander's blade casts a green glow upon the room. It's still dim (-1 to all action rolls) but you're able to make things out.

The room is carved out of sandstone, like the previous one. However, unlike the previous room, there's a large Nexu sleeping in the corner on top of some stained brown sheets. It  stirs and then awakens when it hears the snap-hiss of the lightsaber activating!

Name: Pirate Nexu
HP: 22/22
Will: 50/50
Interventions: 0
Conditions: Sleepy (due to just waking up - the Nexu has -1 to its defense saves. This only lasts for this turn)

Vigor: 5 (requires a score of 10 to deal status effects)
Agility: 7 (requires a score of 14 to hit)
Cleverness: 3

Korus wrote:

Interventions: 2
Conditions:

"These pirates seem to keep interesting pets!" Korus shouts as the Nexu awakes.
"It's possible it's domesticated," Korus thinks to himself, "but I can't take any chances."

Action: Force Push on Nexu.
Will cost: 3
Action roll: d20
Damage roll: d6 +2 ("Force Strong" trait)

Sirak wrote:
Name: Sirak Sazen
HP: 10/15
Will: 43/80
Interventions: 1
Conditions:

"Too bad they're going to have to get a new one." Sirak says full of confidence as he draws his blaster.

Action: Rapid fire on Pirate Nexu (3 separate rolls for each shot)
Will cost: 5
Action roll: d20 + 4 ("Sharpshooter" trait) + 1 ("Jack of All Trades" trait)
Damage roll: d3

Jiub wrote:
Name: Jiub
HP: 2/30
Will: 30/50
Interventions: 0
Conditions:

"I'll do what I can." Jiub musters - still bleeding profusely.

He limps away from the fight - hoping the Nexu won't realize he's injured and tries to see if the pirates have placed any traps in the room which could surprise his allies.

Action: Trap check
Will cost: 2
Action roll: d12

At this point, no one else can do anything until I post the results of their actions.

The Nexu is now fully awake. He nimbly dodges a powerful Force Push issued by Xander, but is hit by two of the three blaster rounds fired by Sirak.

In response, he pounces at Sazen!

The badly injured Jiub searches the room for pirate traps - but is having too much trouble seeing in the dim, flickering lightsaber light and through his headache caused by blood loss.

Action: Attack Sirak Sazen
Attack Roll: d20
Damage roll: d8

Any questions? That's a basic rundown and I may have forgotten something.

You're basically responsible for keeping track of your own character's status (HP and such), skills (which dice to roll) and traits (how they affect those rolls). You need to know that stuff so you can make the rolls and email them to me. But I'm responsible for doing the math.

What's the d20 and so on mean? And what determined that my Force Push missed?

"d" indicates "dice" and the number indicates how many sides that dice has.

So a d20 has 20 sides. When you roll it, it results in 1-20. A d3 has 3 sides (impossible in real life - but they can simulate by making a six sided dice with 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3 on its six sides. We don't need to worry about it electronically anyway - electronic "dice" can have 2 million sides Razz ).

Anyway, so your Force Push...

So you rolled a d20. It resulted in a 12. We subtract 1 because the room is dim. For a total of 11.
Then you rolled a d6 for the damage of the push. You maxed out your natural roll (6). Then we added 2 thanks to Xander having a trait named "Force Strong" that apparently increases the damage of all of his Force powers by 2. For a total of 8. Nice Force Push!

The trick is...

You need a 14 to hit the Nexu. Your action roll was only 11. Your damage roll didn't even matter after that really since you'd already missed (although it is useful for the roleplaying side - since I got to say that your "powerful" Force push missed).

Absolutely. Although it does basically require posting once a day (lest your character die or get left behind in a room). I think your account might self-destruct if you do that - it's set to only let you post once every 2 weeks, right? Wink
