Even in California, a mid-range computer being run heavily 8 hours or so per day and left idle for the rest of the 24 is only going to cost you around $200 per year. Take that 200 odd bucks for 24 hours a day - if you're only using the computer for 8 of those hours and turn it off for 16... well now you're saving probably $100 per year (keep in mind that 8 hours of "use" costs about the same amount as 16 hours of "idling"). Do that for 3 or 4 years and you'll have saved enough money to pay for almost half a brand new computer to replace the one you've been using _________________ Sergeant Frog: Because (no matter how much I deny it) Invader Zim isn't coming back

Doing 365 "cold starts" per year causes more "rapid stress" than the 24/7 damage would be. Personally, I DO agree with you that the constant idling is probably worse. My Mum's now infamous boyfriend helped buy my computer and got one for himself, and has extra cooling power in it or something and has never turned it off. I've had this computer for about two years now I think. _________________ Time to start again.
