I used to love boy bands like Nsync when I was in elementary. Around 3rd-5th grade, I started to listen to a lot of nu metal stuff like Linkin Park, which kind of ushered me into the "true" rock scene, even though Linkin Park wasn't that. I used to think they were heavy metal, lol.

Then, in 6th Grade, came Guitar Hero. I started to listen to music such as Bowling for Soup, Michael Jackson, Simple Plan, some Yellowcard, and random alternative songs from random artists.

Then, in mid 7th to to now 8th Grade, I started broadening, and was heavily deep into rock music such as AC/DC, Airbourne, Metallica, Muse, Sum 41, Bowling for Soup, etc. I'm listening to some hip hop as well, but it had to have certain elements of rock in it too, such as Hollywood Undead and Linkin Park. It's very, VERY rare for me to find a pure rap song I like.

There is no longer a mainstream. There are many streams.

RnB is Rhianna, Mariah Cary, etc. What is 'Blues'? That's like comparing Fall Out Boy's Thanks for the Memories and Muse's Soldier's Poem because they both fall under the broad umbrella of Rock.

If you want, fine, Undisclosed Desires is Indie RnB.

Blues IS robert johnson. look him up on youtube

Oh boi my turnz.

Well, for the first, oh, 12 or so years of my life all I knew was Country music. That's all my parents put on the radio, its the only thing I really heard a lot of. Plus, I wasn't too interested in music at the time so I guess it didn't really bother me.

But one day I heard my older sister listening to a band named Good Charlotte, and I got hooked on one of their CDs, I'm a little embarrassed to admit they were my first real band, and I'm even more embarrassed to admit Simple Plan was the second band I listened to, lol. But, I was 12 at the time, so yeah.

I started getting into bands like Linkin Park, New Found Glory, Yellowcard, and other alternative rock. It wasn't until I joined this site and started talking to Kasey (Saber) a lot, did I get into a lot of older stuff, which took a while for me to like, actually. Bands that I've already listed, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, etc. Along with a lot of other modern bands and such.

Don't get me wrong, I know what you mean. But artists like that are one type of RnB - the biggest stream.

Blues is a genre of music popularized after jazz. It was formed after the creation of the "Blues" scale. Like jazz, it was highly popular with black musicians - which perhaps is why most RnB artists today are black.

Solider's poem is not rock, it's a ballad or something. Thanks for the Memories is emotive teenage rock.

Soldier's Poem is I think classified as Rock on the album, but whatever, it's like comparing Knights of Cydonia with Thanks for the Memories.

Oh yeah I know but that's cause iTunes just puts albums as a genre not the songs.

Slash and Ted Nugent = meh. Same with Angus Young. Never heard of the two latter.

95% of my musical taste is based off of my 55 year old dad and his collection. I wish I could have grown up in the 60s and 70s like him with all the great tunes. Floyd, Zeppelin, Stones, The Who. It would be like heaven.

Right now I'm listening to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly.

You haven't heard of Tom Morello? Get your hands on a copy of Guitar Hero 3.
