Oh I'd say it's rather on-topic. The piece of news was involving a structural change to the Forum's power structure and this is a debate about that.
Let's see...
Situation 1:
User 1 posts topic: "I think that Diablo 3 is going to be really awesome."
User 2 replies: "Mmm, probably."
User 3 replies: "Yeah, I heard you'll be able to summon an unholy axe of deathly doom."
User 2 replies and quotes user 3: "ZOMG ROXORS LOL"
Situation 2:
User 1 posts topic: "I think that Diablo 3 is going to be really awesome."
User 2 replies: "Mmm, probably."
User 3 replies: "Yeah, I heard you'll be able to summon an unholy axe of deathly doom."
User 1 replies: "Mmm, I'd be careful about listening to any rumor like that this early on - was it in the gameplay video?"
User 2 replies: "Yeah, it was. Check 2 minutes in."
User 4 replies: "ZOMG ROXORS LOL"
User 2 replies: "Eh?"
Situation 3:
User 1 posts topic: "I think that Diablo 3 is going to be really awesome."
User 2 replies: "Mmm, probably."
User 3 replies: "You canz buy cheap goldz for world of warcraft!!!"
Proper response to Situation 1:
Don't delete the post. That's something that should be dealt with by the user base. Gently curbing someone's behavior to be a bit more... mature.
EXCEPTION: The user has just replied to three other people in other threads with "ZOMG ROXORZ LOL". In that case, send the user a PM telling them to stop.
Proper response to Situation 2:
If there are no replies after that post yet - you can delete it. However, in this case, there already is a reply ("Eh?"). So the proper response is to reply to the topic with something along the lines of...
"User 4, please stay on topic.
Anyway, yeah. Diablo 3 should be pretty cool whenever it comes out."
EXCEPTION: The user has just replied to at least one other thread seemingly without reason with random junk. In that case, deal with each thread the same way - but also send the user a PM telling them that completely random posting is not acceptable.
Proper response to Situation 3:
EX-TERM-I-NATE. EX-TERM-I-NATE. EX-TERM-I-NATE.
That all seem rather rational?
Quoting someone and saying "I agree with that completely" isn't as good as saying "I agree with that completely AND (insert a thought or two of your own)", but it's not spam and not something Mods need to worry about in an official capacity.
If you notice someone is making a habit of it, it might be worth taking up with that user and trying to get them to curb their behavior.
Embeion is obviously active in roleplay threads, general threads, etc. etc. and wouldn't be considered a "quote monster" - in my opinion
Mods are keepers of the peace and snipers of blatantly offensive or inappropriate posts - not behavior police. That duty belongs the community as a whole. _________________
