Oh dear, just tried using Battlenet to see how I'd go and it had to download an update. I tried playing and it kept sending me back to the main menu so I decided just to play against AIs, and now it won't work... as in, I'll select the DotA AI map and the options for selecting teams won't come up. Confused

Any help?

It's difficult to say without actually seeing your screen and walking through it. You could try downloading other versions of DotA to see if they have better AI support.

Worst case scenario, I suppose you could reinstall from CD (backing up your DotA map that worked before) and not log on Battlenet if it is indeed the patch that messed up the AI-possible settings somehow.

Ah I posted too soon.

I tried deleting the new patch, and still no help. Basically I used to be able to play the map perfectly fine - and did so for about a month or so - but now on the screen where you select which map you want to play, I select it, and there's no option to select teams and stuff, it remains blank.

Hmm, yeah I could just wipe all my DotA information and re-download the AI map. I'll put that in the Worst Case Scenario category. Razz

Well DotA doesn't save statistics or levels or anything from play to play - does it? So downloading a new version of the map shouldn't take more than a minute Razz

Yeah exactly, I just mean the fiddly trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling it.

But I guess that would take just as long as sitting here puzzling over it so I guess I'll just do it. Razz

Eurgh, ok just re-installed Warcraft, downloaded the latest AI map, and still have the problem. I'll try posting a screen shot.

It looks like the 3 tips on the DotA forums for "problems" (not this specific problem, but general problems) is...

1. Have map 6.63b (which you have - but maybe you didn't before?)
2. Have Warcraft patch 1.24 (which you probably don't have since reinstalling).
3. If it doesn't work with those 2 things - try making the name of the map shorter (like "DotA AI")

YES!! IT WORKED!

I must question the logic of having an update ruin my ability to play a game, and yet when re-installing the game, I require the update to make it work again...

Perhaps it wasn't the update, maybe you just saved something out of place?

Hmm, I don't think so, because everything was fine before the update, then I got it, tried playing online, and any game I tried to join it wouldn't let me, so I went back to just play a Custom Game, and I had the problem.

Very odd.

What happened was you misinterpreted my original advice:

Somehow you took "download a new version of the map" to mean: "reinstall the game before trying anything else."

So the exact steps of what occurred was:

1. You had an old DotA map that worked with the old version of Warcraft your were using.
2. You downloaded Warcraft 1.24 which made major changes to the mapping engine - so your old DotA didn't work.
3. You reinstalled the game - bringing you back down to version 1.08 or something.
4. You downloaded the newest version of DotA... which is designed for the new 1.24 mapping engine - so it wouldn't work with your unpatched Warcraft.
5. You downloaded 1.24 (again) and the new DotA map began working.

All of this could have been avoided by taking my original advice Razz

No, no the map I just downloaded was the same one I used to be using. I like to stay current, so I always try and download the most current map.

The problem may possibly have been because I had so many downloadable maps, and now I ONLY have the most recent one.

Is this PC or 360? I've never really had problems with the PC version, though to be fair I've only really played Survivor online - I presume Versus mode is more prone to flare tempers up.

PC, I don't own a 360.  Everytime I play some guy in the group yells at me if I do something out of order or don't carefully hug the wall because he's played through the level 3 dozen times and knows exactly what comes next.  To me, that ruins half of the game, so I stopped playing online.  I truly despise the Versus mode, actually.  Seems rather inverse of what the point of the game is.
