Wacky scientist is crazy. Yeah, it'd bounce back and forth or "orbit" the middle for awhile, but eventually the hilt traveling through any material (solid nickel-iron in this case) is going to slow down its movements and it'll just start spinning around in the very center of the planet in the end. _________________ May The Force Be With Us, Always

Then yeah, I suppose you could end up floating around in there for quite awhile. If there was air in there you would still eventually stop. It'd need to be a vacuum to fall back and forth endlessly. But I think we're pretty sure the inner core is solid (we're less sure it's made of iron and nickel), so wacky scientist was just doing a thought experiment _________________ May The Force Be With Us, Always
