I just finished watching the theatrical release version of Empire, and about two days ago I watched the special edition. Comparing the two versions I must say that I prefer the special edition's wampa scene was better. I know Lucas wanted to make the wampa seem more scary by having it only show up a little, like Jaws, but I felt the scene had more of a "scare" when we see it chomping down on some bones. Discuss.

The real problem is that in the original you hear the TaunTaun crying out in pain and you can imagine the Wampa doing horrible things to it as its eaten alive.

The new version is certainly more visually impressive... but you still hear the TaunTaun crying out - despite the Wampa very clearly having already killed it. What the?

If they made a version where you see the new footage of the Wampa walking back to Luke and having its arm cut off - but leave out the part with it leisurely eating instead of doing horrible things - that'd probably be ideal.
