WALL·E

There was already some discussion in the Wanted thread and the 4th of July thread. But now that I've seen it - it deserves its own thread Wink

Oh, by the way, I'm not using actual spoiler tags since - it's a G rated movie. Do you really expect a twist ending or such?  It's a rather standard plot just done really really really well, since it's Pixar. I'd call it an epic version of Lady and the Tramp. Lady and the Tramp in Space - heheh.

If nothing else, see it for the fact that Ben Burtt did all the sounds for WALL·E. You know - the guy that came up with the sounds for lightsabers, Darth Vader's breathing, and - most importantly for this movie - R2D2.

Minor spoilers follow:

My only real complaint was: What was up with using live action footage alongside 3D humans? They could have gotten away with having living humans be completely unseen in the film and only use live action footage - that would have been an interesting artistic choice. But having the 3D Captain watch the live action Directive A-113 movie was... weird.

I also somewhat doubt we'll have Hyperdrive technology up and running by 2100 (or that we'd be capable of completely ruining the planet by then). I would have been a bit happier with 2250 or so as the exodus date. But it really doesn't matter much Smile

I couldn't help but laugh out loud every time WALL·E booted up with the Apple Macintosh startup chime.

As for the "green message" that supposedly some people have disliked... They're silly. This is the correct message to be sending kids from all viewpoints. It's not saying "Oh dear, we're all doomed unless we start making Carbon Credit laws" or "GLOBAL WARMING! OH NOES!" - it's saying "Distrust the government/corporations, think for and take care of yourself, and don't place blame on or preach to other people - just stand up and do something about the problem." If anything, that's a traditional conservative message.
I had seen one review that didn't like the movie because they felt that "Pixar has spent millions of dollars just to call us fat." - if you feel that way, you're probably one of the people that really needs to take the film's message to heart Razz

Pixar still impresses me merely for the fact that they're able to fit more character into a binocular-eyed robot that doesn't talk than most other movies (kids and adult-focused alike) could hope to fit into a two hour romp. Hopefully their 10th film is just as good as the previous 9.

Now I want to see it again for two reasons:
While watching the credits I saw that Sigourney Weaver (Aliens series star) is the voice of the Axiom's computer - I didn't recognize her voice while watching.
To look closely at all the trash for faded Buzz Lightyear dolls - I'm sure there's at least one Very Happy

Ta-Da is the best Wall-E quote, and every conversation involving just Eva and Wall-E made me laugh, just because it was beeps and creeps.
Dork of Mordork

I just saw it today, and I can honestly say I loved ALL of it. Very Happy The only let down was that there were live action along with the animated. Confused

It really changed some of my views on the whole Green thing. I was already a Green supporter, but I am more-so now. And for once in a movie, there was a love story that didn't totally tick me off. Now adays the whole love stories in movies are generally the same thing over and over, even in cartoons. But this one, despite them being robots, brought a smile to my face. And how innocent, yet clumsy and doofy Wall-E was, made for such a perfect and funny movie. Very Happy
Lord Invictus

I just saw it yesterday. It wasn't amazing, but I thought it was good.
