Sorry if there is already a thread on this, but...
What a fantastic movie, even beter than Wall-E. This is probably the best movie I have seen in theatres in years. The Joker was excellent and there are so many twists and truly meaningful messages within the movie, I started wondering where DC got so much better writers than MArvel (This outclassed every movie released by Marvel EVER.)
Tom
Erh.. The writers for this film were Christopher and Johnthon Nolan, Christopher also directs the film. They dont work for dc, they just make the films and they make em good.. See there other films like The Prestiege, and Memento.

I'm going tonight. I know it is a good movie...but it won't outclass Iron Man.
Zelen
idk about that 1 there

Oh it will.... Everything ive heard so far says it will...

I really, REALLY want to see it, so badly.

This was at least 10X better than Iron Man
Dork of Mordork
I don't plan on seeing Iron Man, but I know the game was a complete failure in my mind. Not just the mechanics and gameplay, etc, but I HATE how it was basically one guy against practically thousands of enemies at a time, and he obliterates them. I can't stand God-mod games, or movies.
Zelen
the game was dumb i only played the demo and knew it was destined for faliure

This movie was outstanding, simply outstanding. It filled all the criteria for me for a superhero movie - even though Batman isn't a superhero, I know - and Heath Ledger was brilliant. I've been rather cynical of their reasoning for giving him an Oscar post-humously, but I completely agree now.
Jaden Nightsaber
I just saw the 12:01 show of this and wow. That was amazing. Of course Heath Ledger was outstanding and created something that will go down in film history. But I think Gary Oldman really shined in this film and I don't think that he'll get the credit he deserves because he's overshadowed by Heath. I also think that the plot set up a sequel that they can't deliver now.
But overall amazing movie.
Xander Vos
Yeah, on watching it I was dissapointed that Heath can't complete the trilogy.
Zelen
hey but who said batman isn't a superhero. You got to give the guy some credit even though he doesn't have any powers.
Grand Vizier Tarna
I'm not going to try to "complain" about Heath's performance outshining everyone. Because he deserves every last piece of credit he can get for this role.
But I do think that Christian Bale, like Jaden said Gary Oldman, and ESPECIALLY Aaron Eckhart really got shoved aside.
Rive Caedo
I certainly liked it. I'm not sure if I'd call it Oscarworthy for any particular actor. The film as a whole is award worthy though - but I doubt they'd let best picture go to a superhero movie (then again, I was surprised when they let Lord of the Rings (deservedly) get best picture).
Spoiler:
I'd seen the somewhat disappointing pictures of Two-Face that leaked months and months ago. I'm glad the final product was much more impressive.
It is too bad that they won't be able to show a scene with the Joker in Arkham Asylum - which they were obviously setting up... unless they switch to a new actor.
Hopefully they won't ruin the inevitable 3rd movie by throwing Robin into the mix like the previous decade's batman movies

Definition of a superhero is someone who has powers that a normal person doesn't have. He doesn't, he uses technology.

That's definitely not true, a superhero is just generally someone dedicated to acts of good that can have superpowers but do not have to have them to be considered one. Batman is a good example of a superhero who uses technology and martial prowess to his advantage.

Well, this was his last movie, you know....

YOU MOCK LOTR?! LOTR IS A GOD IN A MATERIALISTIC FORM!
Anyway, even though I haven't seen it, Superhero movies generally deserve nomination, but when you've got amazing thrillers like Viva Chihuahua (sp?) it's no contest. (in truth, I think that looks like the most stupid movie of all time... The Chihuahua, not Batman)

In other news, Batman is a hero, not a superhero. He lacks the ability to use mystical powers (ex: Superman, Mace Windu, Sparky the magical dog... I made up the last one.....) but he does, as Xander stated, use technology and, as Ga'nen stated, martial prowess. He is a hero, not a superhero. Any arguments he's not are instable, and saying he has superpowers is a symptom of Batmanisnotaherososis, which results in hairloss, insanity, and irritation of the stomach....
Dork of Mordork
I'm not sure he insulted LOTR, but more so said they deserved it? LOTR deserves every good thing they got and then some.
Lord Vexen
I have to say...this film is amazing. There are only 2 films that beat this movie and they are Terminator 2 and the Godfather.
Grand Vizier Tarna
Rive, I don't think Robin was the reason "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin" were bad. That was poor movie design, and did we mention the nipple suits?
However, if they could actually pull it off seriously, I would enjoy seeing Robin. And I hope its Shia LaBeouf

And I don't suffer from anything, but as I said not all superheroes have to have super powers, it just icing on a cake for them. Superhero to me is generally anyone who opposes evil and fights for justice. And how are the arguments unstable?

SUPERhero means people with super powers, Batman is an ordinary hero.
If only superheroes oppose evil then what are heroes?
Tom
I think Nolan has stated he wouldnt want a Robin in this universe, and Bale has said he'd drop out if there was mention of the boy wonder... great

Good, worst sidekick ever.
Rive Caedo
My definition of superhero is simply someone that's larger than life in fictional form that fights villains and/or supervillains (villains that are larger than life). Almost always wearing some sort of costume.
Batman is certainly larger than life - even if he doesn't have super strength or flight.

Firefighters are a good standard example in real life. I'd also toss Commissioner Gordon in as good example of a fictional hero. Gordon's not larger than life. He's a good man trying to fight injustice within the confines of the system. Heroic - but he's not a superhero.
Dork of Mordork
I agree with Rive. It's not always the supernatural powers, but the "larger than life" powers. So in my experience, Batman is definitely a superhero.
Since when is wikipedia the ultimate source of 100% correct knowledge in the universe?... wait... it is... I side with Ga'nen now.
Dork of Mordork
Why so serious?
That was, simply put: The best movie I've seen in years.
Scion
I don't think I can watch another cheesy superhero movie after seeing this, it will just pale.
Lord Invictus
This was amazing. I saw it with my dad a few minutes ago. I must say; this is the best superhero movie- and one of the best movies- I've ever seen. Of course, with every other superhero movies apart from Spiderman and the original batman ("Begins", this movie's predecessor) being absolute crud, taking the cake isn't too hard.
Frankly, even compared to most "frightening" villains in action movies, the Joker was incredibly freaky. So far, Batman's enemies have all been "scary". Joker has been a schizophrenic murderer of a terrorist, and Scarecrow has been a narcotic-using political idealist trying to bring about a near-apocalyptic event. Great movie... though I did laugh at some points at the random behavior of the Joker.
"Wanna' see a magic trick? I will make this pencil disappear...."
- Freakiest part.... ever....

Loved that part.
This movie also shows what happens when you side with the mob.

Even the mob hated the Joker, though.

And look what happened to them

How so? I thought the mob had a very small part in the movie, apart from the beginning.
Tom
It was basically what happens when the mob, the bullys of the city, start to get terrorized. With them getting arrested, having their money stolen, them hiring the Joker to get rid of "The Batman". It was because of the mob that Harvey basically ended up the way he dose.
The Mob have played parts in both films. First film was about the fall of the Falcone empire, and the second film is about the mob trying recallibrate, while the Batman is hammering them. "I know why you have your group therapy sessions in the day"

What does the mob have to do with Harvey? That was the Joker.
Tom
In the comic books its Maroni that actually dose the deed, he throws acid on his face.
In the film, the mob pay Joker to get rid of the batman, if they didnt pay the joker to do that job, then two face wouldnt of been born, because lets face it, the joker himself said, "If your good at something, you dont do it for free." or something similar to that.
Plus the Joker was locked up, and Ramierez and the other cop Dent catchs up with, were working for the mob...
Yodafueva me
Put simply: This movie kicked butt. This film also makes me miss Ledger more, as its an example of what he could've been.
Darth Carnage
The single greatest movie I have ever seen in my life. Every actor/actress was outstanding.
Spoiler:
Christian Bale - Amazing how he revealed the inner-struggle of Batman against how much he has to sacrifce and how he showed how badly he didn't want to be Batman anyone. My favorite scene with him was either the scene right after Rachel dies and he is talking to Alfred, I thought he did so well in that. But I also loved when he took the Batpod and swerved under the tractor-trailer of the Joker and flipped it.
Michael Caine - As always, did incredible. His moment to shine was the various utterances he said throughout the film that were the big ones I loved (ex. "Some men just want to watch the world burn.") or the moment when Bruce is about to reveal his identity and they have that whole "I suppose they will lock me up as your accomplice." "Accomplice? I am going to tell them the whole thing was your idea" moment.
Maggie Gyllenhaal - I thought was great. I liked Katie Holmes better, but Maggie took the role and made is something else than what Katie did. I loved the person she made Rachel to be, but I still thought Katie was better. Nevertheless, she did great. And my favorite moment with her was right before she died - one the phone with Harvey. I thought that was delivered great.
Gary Oldman - What can you say about Gary Oldman? He is amazing, always. He did such a great job it is hard for me to say what my favorite part with him was. The part when he "came back from the dead" and caught the Joker, the end with Two-Face was so well done, the very end as he narrated the chase of Batman, or right before Batman goes after the Joker near the end and you see how desperate he is to save Dent.
Morgan Freeman - A phenomenon in his own right, Morgan was great in this film. I always love the witty conversations between him and Wayne where they dance around the subject of what he will do with all the items Fox gives Wayne.
Heath Ledger - Heath Ledger's performance was beyond words. I have been studying mental illnesses for research for a novel, and he got every last thing done perfect. When I say that every scene he was in was my favorite, it is not an exaggeration. He was my favorite in the movie before I ever saw it. I believe he was the best I have ever seen in a movie.
Aaron Eckhart - Was so great. You could see the struggle between justice and vengeances the whole time, even before his transformation to Two-Face. The visual design for his scarred half was great, but his performance was even better. He did as great as the star, Bale, in my opinion. My favorite scene with him is hard to say - either the scene with him and the Joker in the hospital, the scene with him in the mobster's limo, a great number of him just as Harvey Dent, or others.
