Figured I'd open this thread up a bit early since I just caught the trailer - and it's fairly neat looking. "Cad Bane" looks to be the best original character to have come out of Clone Wars thus far (which is probably why they're heavily promoting him here). He's an Old West style outlaw... Duros.
I recommend pressing the little "HD" button in the lower right hand corner once you start playing the video - if you have a fast enough connection.
Talen D'aar
Yeah, I saw the trailer a little while back. It does look pretty interesting, although I was a little disappointed that the guy was an outlaw. By the way they promoted him the trailer, I had the feeling he was going to be an awesome new Sith character.
Then BAM, Duros! Aww...

Looks pretty good. They'd better not kill him off/arrest him in the episode though...

Maybe they're trying to Awesome her up this season? She might be cool, you never know.
Xander Vos
Anyone who calls the Chosen One/Lord Vader "Sky Guy" needs to meet with a horrible death.
Talen D'aar
lol Well, maybe she matures and stops calling him that horrible nickname? Ever think of that? Huh?
Xander Vos
But it's a kids show, that ain't gonna happen.
I'm actually wondering how they'll kill her off, unless they bring her into the Live Action Show and use her as the link. Which would be alright I guess, if the fall of her Master made her become dark and brooding...
Talen D'aar
I hope she dies. Not because I hate her or anything, but because this show needs some good drama.
Xander Vos
But the kiddies would be distraut.
Talen D'aar
Pfft. DBZ had more drama than this show and it was one of my favorites growing up.
Xander Vos
Yeah that's true, but I think this is aimed at a younger audience.
Talen D'aar
Talen D'aar wrote:

I'm not that old.
Xander Vos
I enjoyed DBZ when I was young too... I'm just saying that DBZ is aimed at the 9-12 age group, whereas Clone Wars is also inclusive of the 6-9 age group.
Talen D'aar
-_-
Xander Vos
Have you noticed the lack of blood or anything mildly violent beyond the constant destruction of droids? Compare that to the extreme fight scenes in DBZ involving the death several times of main characters. In Clone Wars, no main character has been killed.
Talen D'aar
Well....Star Wars never really had blood to begin with, and only in the most extreme cases, so I don't think that counts.
But they have seriously injured main characters, and most kids that watch the show have seen the movies which show several deaths and "amputations".
Xander Vos
I think ANH would disagree with you there...
Not at all. The show is aimed at attracting new viewers. I know for a fact several young kids who love the show but have never seen a SW movie.
Talen D'aar
ANH had what? The blood from the cut-off arm...and that's it.
But there are still a lot that have seen the movies. My best friend's 6-year-old brother watches it and he's seen all of the Star Wars movies. My neighbor across the street's kids are the same.
I'm just saying that even when dealing small children, you can have characters die and still keep your dignity as a show. I know that the shows that impacted me the most were the ones where some of the characters had died.
For example: Avatar: The Last Airbender targeted the same audience, but they killed off a character. They didn't show him physically die, but they showed him get hurt and as everyone walked away, they alluded to the fact that he had died. It may have only been an allusion, but it was still very powerful.
Xander Vos
And then you have ESB with Luke bloodied up from a battle with a Wampa, and Dak bloodied after he is killed.
I haven't seen them in so long though I can't remember every instance, but blood does have its place in SW.
One of the main reasons HP didn't die was because JK Rowling feared it would cause wide-spread depression.
Talen D'aar
Yeah, but as I said, "in extreme cases". Children aren't stupid, they know that if someone's fighting some beast that they're gonna get bloodied up, same with getting killed.
But she did kill off a ton of characters did she not? And kids still read her books did they not?
Xander Vos
Well to be fair she killed them all off mainly in the last book when there weren't any left TO buy after it.
Talen D'aar
Even if the books were just Harry and Voldemort, they'd still buy them.
Xander Vos
She really let a lot of people down in the last one though.
Talen D'aar
Eh, I never read past the third one, so I'm not too shocked.
Also: Me and you made this a popular thread all by our lonesome. XD Put 'er there pal!
Xander Vos
Pity, the fourth was the pinnacle, I really think it was the lone highpoint of the series. Plus the movie had David Tennant in it, can't go wrong there.
You should see what we did with the Invasion of Coruscant thread in about 20 minutes.
Talen D'aar
I tried reading GoF, but it was just too long. My attention span didn't reach that far back then.
I fear to search for the thread. XD

While I don't think there's been any blood - we DID have Kit Fisto cut the limbs off of that beast that General Grievous had.
Ventress visibly stabbing that traitorous Senate commando through the chest.
And Dooku lifting up a pirate - using his blaster via the Force to kill another pirate - and then violently snapping the first pirate's neck.
That third moment was the one that made me go "Whoa, wait - did they seriously just do that on a kid's show?!"
But, we're perfectly welcome to switch the show's format to have Dooku mocking Anakin for 7-12 episodes while Anakin charges up a single attack. "What? 9000?!"
Xander Vos
Hehe yes, watching DBZ now I say, "Hang on, was this all that happened?"
Lord Embeion
Hey! Don't make fun of the Spirit Bomb. It had a good 20 episode run in the Frieza saga... It was over 90000
Xander Vos
And then fighting Buu, standing there glaring at him for 10 episodes.
Lord Embeion
nooo... only 2. =/

Rive Caedo
Yeah, I enjoyed that duo of episodes too ("Dooku Captured" and "The Gungan General"). But the presence of JarJar kicks out of my list of "Best Episodes".
I really hope they bring back the "villain" from those episodes - Hondo. I loved his voice.
Xander Vos
I forget, was he arrested or did he escape?
Talen D'aar
I thought he had his throat pwned by Dooku, but that could just be my memory getting fuzzy.
Xander Vos
Yeah, surely he was killed.

Nope. I don't have the episode in front of me. But here's a near quote:
Hondo: "So what happens now? You arrest me?"
Obi-Wan: "Hm? Oh, no. You no longer have anything to bargain with - and the Republic has no real quarrel with you."
Hondo: "So after all that's happened, you're just going to let us go? Hm... Very honorable, Master Jedi."
Obi-Wan: "Yes. Although, I must remind you - Count Dooku is not nearly so honorable as us... and he knows where you live."
*Obi-Wan and the rest fly away*

Hmm, well I guess that's a potential plot for season two then.
Talen D'aar
Yay for loose ends!!
Xander Vos
Obviously having something like that IS meant to lead into something, because every other episode has been much more conclusive.
Talen D'aar
Yep Yep! My thoughts exactly, good man!
Sirak Sazen
I smell suicide in Hondo's future.
Rive Caedo
Bane is fun - so I'm glad they're keeping him around. Minimal Ziro dialogue (I wonder if there was more in the original cut - but they cut it out after the response to him from the movie?)
Also of note regarding Bane is that he DOES have an awesome voice throughout basically the whole thing. The commercial was sort of 50/50 between "awesome deep voiced Old West villain" and "screechy".
Anakin and Padme still feel more "real" as a couple in this 3D cartoon than they ever did as flesh and blood. And yes, that's still sad. I'm not sure whether to blame George Lucas or Hayden Christian for that fact.
This is probably the most we've seen of Palpatine in an episode, by far. And I think it's the first time we've seen Bail Organa. It'd be nice if we got more Bail in the future. Force Unleashed fleshed him out a bit, but he's still an underused character.
I'm actually going to miss this show during the 5-6 month break. Which is far more than I can say of Star Wars' previous television outings (Droids, Ewoks, and the special whose name shall not be said). So kudos to Clone Wars and here's to hoping Season 2 is even better.
Xander Vos
Bane? As in named after Darth Bane? My, my.
I'll check it out now, but I agree. Finally something Star Wars related I haven't cringed at on television. My biggest fear is that the Live Action show will be Terminator-esque and be a complete phail.
Running comentary:
3:36 - Liked the opening with Sing and the BH, quite flashy. Agreed this scene with Anakin and Padme IS much better than the, "Only because I'm so in love with you!" scene of the movie. The expression in Anakin's voice is so much better than that wooden puppet otherwise known as Hayden.
5:27 - A Privacy Invasion Bill, the way Padme said that made me smile, and again, the expression in their voices is far better than in the movies. Her hiding Anakin's lightsaber so as to not be caught was also humerous.
8:10 - I like a good example made of a nameless good guy to show that the bad guy has balls. And his conversation with Palpatine was rather nice as I'd assume he's indirectly working for Sidious in some respect, and I always like that irony. Ziro the Hutt's mention made me want to projectile vomit. "It's not as if we carry weapons," I think I know where this is going...
9:38 - Wow this Jedi training is something! After realising Padme still has his lightsaber and having been shot at directly, Anakin moves his head slightly side to side and dodges two bullets!
12:00 - Ok Anakin uses the Force to convince the BH's hired help to check a different room to avoid catching him, I get that, but I don't get how that fooled the IG droid which also heard him. Also, an IG droid?! I thought they weren't around until later, or so says Tales from the Bounty Hunters.
15:31 - I guess Sing was trying to capture Anakin, but again, even with her sniper she can't seem to hit very well...
16:40 - Urgh, Ziro speaks. I think I just died.
20:37 - STOP SPEAKING. Also, Anakin's slip up upon waking up is probably what lead Organa to his knowing look in ROTS when Padme slipped away. Like the fact the Senator from that Ice episode is here too, just noticed her.
Ah so Bane's the BH. I liked it, much better pacing than the previous episode, and a fitting season finale.

It's reasonable to assume that saying what a Jedi wants their Force Persuasion to do is just a focusing technique. Anakin spoke too softly for either the Weequay or the IG droid to hear him - but his message was still carried via The Force.
The company that made the IG-88 Series of droids (that went crazy and killed their creators) made other IG droids before the 88 series.
The model we see in this episode (and in the R2-D2 duo of episodes) is the IG-86 series.
Xander Vos
Hmm ok, I guess that makes sense.
And yeah, I always thought the IG's were implied to be a test model, first of their type etc. And yet now we see there were prior models.
shadowball2021
It was a good ep; wish it had a bit more Aurra Sing in it. Good to see Bane will be in season 2 and from what the preview said; a lot of him. Nice, can't wait to see him go toe-to-toe with some Jedi...as well as Sing.
Xander Vos
Sing's probably recuperating from hauling that brat Boba Fett around.

Korus Zhett wrote:

LOL, maybe...ooo, by the way, it would be nice to see some young Boba in this series as well.
Xander Vos
Yeah that's true. The young kid series leaves open a series of months where he's off doing jobs for Jabba I think.
I'd actually like that and mentioned it with the series originally, that the effects could be used to turn a lot of the books into TV movies.
They could adapt the Young Boba books into multiple episodes if GL wanted to be lazy, as that'd interest me immensly, draw people in because its Boba, make up essentially an entire season (6 books at 4 episodes each is 24 episodes) and experiment with adapting books into movies.

True, with the tech today and how the series looks and feels, they could do a lot of books and character-focused eps or mini-movies. I totally want to see what GL will do with this show as well as new age tech...
Xander Vos
Surely it's crossed his mind he could essentially make a TV series purely from the X-Wing novels... At half an hour an episode one of those books could go a season, or more.
Let alone NJO.
GL seems quite money-focussed so I'm hoping in this one instance in which I WANT him to be greedy, he actually does it.

Indeed, one can only hope...hell, we might even get our long-wanted eps 7, 8, and 9 if he becomes greedy enough.
Talen D'aar
lol If Episodes 7, 8, and 9 end up coming out and they bomb...then we'll know the world's coming to an end....
Wait, I think I'm in the wrong thread for this one.
Xander Vos
I doubt he'll make 7 8 9 unless he brands the Thrawn trilogy 7 8 9 - as they're heavily regarded as the perfect plot for a new trilogy. I just don't see him going back on a stance he's held heavily in the lead up to and following ROTS.
Rive Caedo
If George made 7 8 and 9 he'd probably keep to his recent (past 10 years) statement that its Anakin Skywalker's story.
Therefore, 7 8 and 9 would take place almost entirely in the Netherworld of the Force, with Hayden Christian's ghost repeatedly saying "We're cool, right?" to Samuel L. Jackson's ghost that's missing a hand -- for 6 hours.
Xander Vos
Hehe that'd be pretty cool.
Though he could always make the Trilogy based around Anakin's redemption with his kids, so starting with Truce at Bakura where he is redeemed by Leia, to Tatooine Ghost (Links to Prequels) to Swarm Wars Trilogy.
Rive Caedo
You'd still need non-George for that. I don't think he'd be interested in filming something outside of his "vision" that someone else had written the basic story structure for.
Xander Vos
Hmm, I guess so. Pity, with his vision and someone else's script...
Talen D'aar
What about The Force Unleashed? That wasn't his story. That was Haden Blackman's, Lucas just approved its use.
shadowball2021
Talen D'aar wrote:

This is true and a very valid point. GL doesn't have to pen the story, just approve it.(That is if you're going be TFU way of doing things.)
Rive Caedo
Talen D'aar wrote:

That's not a movie. George also approved Knights of the Old Republic. It's still considered "Expanded Universe" level canon, not "George" level canon.
Sirak Sazen
Couldn't expanding on Luke's story still be considered telling Anakin's story? I think it would.
Talen D'aar
I always thought of Star Wars as the 'Skywalker' story. Not just Anakin/Vader's.
Xander Vos
Not according to Lucas.
Darth Samuel
Once again, Yuuzhan vong. It doesn't need to be 7, 8, 9, it doesn't need to be considered a part of anything. It would be considered awesome. It's guaranteed new star wars moview every three years for 12-15 years(Yuuzhan vong series is 4-5 movies at least, if not more. The mroe the merrier)
MAke the special effects up to par with todays standards(which isn't hard for ILM), and hire the original actors. They are all at the perfect age for it, jsut use stunt double, hrie soem good people for the other main characters(Jacen, Jaina, Kyp, Ganner, Anakin)
Xander Vos
Like I said, that ain't happening because that's considered new movies, which GL has said a definate no to. What COULD happen is an animated series similar to the CW series. Make it darker and a lot grittier, cut out ANY humour except extremely dark humour, slap a PG-13 rating on it, work on the graphics to make them even better so that people would be interested in watching it, and make the first episode extremely blood-thirsty and epic so that it gets people watching.
Darth Samuel
Use the original guys for the voice-acting...
Talen D'aar
If you want up-to-par special effects for characters and stuff for an animated SW show, get the dudes that made FFVII:AC, those graphics are epic.
Xander Vos
Darth Samuel wrote:

Everyone but Harrison Ford would be eager for the work.
Rive Caedo
Much as I like Advent Children, I'm not sure if the art style would fit Star Wars.
If you go back to 2D though - the guys that did some of the darker segments of "Gotham Knight" had a style that I think could be more compatible.
Anyway, I'd certainly take any new visualization of post-ROTJ material. And I hope they decide to do so at some point - and soon (while Mark Hamill is still doing voice work)! But I'm not overly interested in seeing the Yuuzhan Vong arc. I'd rather see the Thrawn arc (just because it's so iconic) and then new stories.
Xander Vos
They may go with something like Tatooine Ghost if they do because of it's links to the prequel trilogy, and it's just a big fun adventure.
Talen D'aar
Mark Hamill's been doing pretty decent. He's a great voice actor and has been appearing in a bunch of games lately. Batman: Arkham Asylum is his latest I believe. He's The Joker.
EDIT: He was also in Avatar: The Last Airbender. He was Ozai, the Fire Lord.

Talen D'aar wrote:

He was also the Joker in basically all of the Batman animated series episodes from 1990ish until 2005ish.
I always love watching Behind the Scenes Featurettes, so thanks for that Rive, I wouldn't have thought to look that up on YouTube.
And yeah, that guy's pretty good. Kinda creepy though. To be honest, I like to do Heath's Joker more when I do the lines. I sound almost like him, I just dont have a recording device. XD
EDIT: Batman: Arkham Asylum As far as I know, they have the original Batman and Joker(Hamill) reprising their roles. As for everyone else, I don't know.
Just thought you'd enjoy that. (Although Hamill doesn't really sound like his old stuff.)
Rive Caedo
You're right it does sound a bit "off", although I'm thinking it must be at least somewhat deliberate - since that little clip from that convention interview and the last 15 seconds or so of the trailer sound just like the old stuff. So he can obviously still do it.
I'm glad they snagged Kevin Conroy too. He's always been great and unlike Christian Bale (SWEAR TO ME) you can actually understand what he's saying when he does his Batman voice
Talen D'aar
Yeah, the old Batman show was one of my favorites growing up. I grew quite fond of Batman Beyond too. Will Friedle is another of my favorite voice actors.
Lord Vexen
I loved the old Batman show...that and Superman were awesome growing up.
