The Clone Wars: Episode 9 DiscussionYeah, I lost track of the episode count. And, well I've noticed that Rive doesn't always have time for making the thread discussions, which is perfectly fine, so I took the liberty of making this one.
I liked this episode. I liked the way they portrayed Master Luminara, both her exceptional(sp?) lightsaber skills and her ability to "mesh" with whoever she fights beside. The only thing I didn't like was her voice. I thought the voice used for her in the animated series Clone Wars perfectly fit her.
Another thing that annoys me: Why is it that it seems like the clones never aim when shooting at their enemies? It looks bearable against regular droids, but Super Battle droids? I mean, they walk slow, in a line, and they're bulky as hell. I thought it was funny that the only time they showed them aiming was when the Commander Green shot the weapon out of the blue guy's hand.
EDIT: I would also like to mention something I noticed. When the two commandos are searching the enginge room with that droid, they call him by a nickname and the droid flips out. The clone's friend says, "You know droids don't like to be called by their nicknames." Which made me think of R2, and how he's perfectly fine with being called R2.
Oh, and the preview for the next episode, with Kit Fisto and his former apprentice looks amazing. I'm totally digging the jamaican accent they gave Fisto, mahn.

Jamaican... with Kit Fisto?!?!?!?!?!?!
Screw You, LucasAnimation!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol Yeah, but trust me, when you hear it, it totally fits.

No. It sounds like the guy from Public Enemy. I don't want my favorite star wars character sounding like that. They should've kept the voice from the original clone wars microseries.

I like the ep, very action packed.

Yeah, the duel reminded me of the last duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan in RotS. Not as epic, but the atmoshpere and tone were very much the same.

The Coruscant Guard was cool. Same with the duel, though Luminara should have whooped that little whelp. Luminara is a master of Soresu. How did she lose to such an amateur that fast?

As always, check out the webcomic prequel if you have a minute. This week's is "Transfer".

I was distracted during this episode, but I liked the snips I saw/heard. I'll watch it again once I can find it online.
It sounded like Ahsoka tried to torture and/or strongly intimidate Gunray. Nice.

... He talked? I though he was silent through his whole episode?

The first episode in the second series. When they were discussing Anakin's promotion into Jedi Knight. Fisto just remarks on how he's an awesome pilot and that was it. To me he kinda sounded too much like a car salesman. Or a wall-street banker. Or maybe an inspirational speaker.
EDIT: And I noticed the number replacement in the title. Thanks, Rive.

I hate it how battle droids CANNOT hit enemies, even when they stand still metres from the droids. So annoying.

Stormtrooper effect I believe its called.

Even stormtroopers can hit from that sort of range. It's rediculous.

You mean "It's so annoying".
Droids were designed to win by the numbers, not by skills.

There a computer... there aiming skills should be better then any Clone. It wouldn't be hard to put that in there programming.. a lock-on system.

Only clones are cloned from Jango Fett. He killed like a dozen jedi in close combat.

You forget that joking software is far more important.
Liked this episode, even with Ashoka. Also like that Asajj isn't being used as much as I thought she would.

I'm going to try "live blogging" this episode for fun - since I was hardly paying attention the first time I saw it. I'll edit this post as I go along.
The prompt for this idea was the fact that about 5.5 seconds into the episode I immediately said: Zomg! Luminara is being voiced by Tak! Auto win!
I then decided I've been playing too much World of Warcraft and tried to rerefine my manner of speaking
I still rather like these "spearhead" boarding ships they've come up with.
Woo! Treadwell droid!
Gunray giving his input in Ahsoka's dilemma is the type of humor they should be doing more often. Instead of the cheap ones they've usually been going for.
The pipes dropping from the ceiling after Ventress sliced them is probably the best moment in terms of two characters fighting they've had so far. The steam to the eye was nice too.
One of the better episodes so far (I still rank Episode 2 of Malevolence as the best). Perhaps because the Separatists "win" - finally. Although it's really more of a draw since they're just reclaiming a captured member.

Most of you probably didn't notice this, but in the preview for Episode 10 with Fisto and Grievous, they used some music from the video game Splinter Cell: Chaos Theroy.
Here's the preview(listen closely to the music):

Now here is the song from Chaos Theroy(skip to 0:28 and listen on):

I thought that was interesting.

Well, they have been injecting some newer music into the series.
Maybe they contacted whoever made the song and asked to use it, you know, all legal like.

Woah...Kit Fisto is voiced the same guy who voiced Baron Samedi aka the Hatian's Brother on Heroes...or they sound the same at least.

You can watch the two most recent episodes (before the current week) legally on StarWars.com
Here are the current ones up:

Yeah, from hearing the voice, I'm pretty sure it's Phil Lamaar they're using for Kit Fisto. He's a very experienced voice actor and good with accents. He's been used all over the place in cartoons and some video games and movies like MGS4 where he played Vamp, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends where he plays a major charactor, Wilt. Once you get used to his voice, you can spot his work anywhere.
Kit Fisto, number 26 on the list.

He'll always be Hermes Conrad first and foremost to me. Bureaucrat pride!
I always forget he did Samurai Jack too. Probably because he was overshadowed by Mako (voice of Aku) in that series.
|
Talen D'aar

Yeah, it's too bad Mako died. His skill for voice acting was pretty good. Both in Samurai Jack and Avatar he showed his skill as a performer.

Samurai Jack needs to reair!
anyway... I am hoping to see more Anakin /nerdrage in this series. I want to see some ownage instead of "OH HEY SNIPS!"

I think they're focusing more on showing that Anakin was a good person and making Obi-Wan's fond looking back on him in Episode IV make sense.
But, maybe we'll see some shades of darkness show up later on.
The Clone Wars 2D series played up that angle heavily - but they knew they had a very limited span of time. As opposed to this series which will last for at least 91 more episodes.

Probably more considering how popular it is. 3 out of every 5 costumes I saw on Halloween were Clone Wars themed, boys and girls alike.

Apparently the accompanying books have completely re-written the canon of that period - saying Anakin was made a Knight mere weeks after AOTC, which completely destroys the time frame for books such as Jedi Trial, Cestus Deception, and Shatterpoint. Not too happy with it if that's the case, but hopefully since these Clone War books don't seem to be considered 'real' - not appearing on time lines - then neither are their canon.

Darth Samuel
|
yeah, this new series better not screw up the timeline, or I will be pissed. Right now, I'm thinjing the show takes place over 6 months between 30 months After the Battle of Geonosis, and 36 months after, which is ROTS. though I don't know how they will fit 100 episodes into that timeframe. Every individual day has an episode?
