The Clone Wars: Episode 5 Discussion"The best confidence builder is experience."
Episode V
Rookies
Clone forces rally! As the war
escalates in the Outer Rim, the
Jedi Knights are spread thinly
across the galaxy. Many new
clones are rushed into service
to support their Jedi generals.
Unfortunately, because of the
relentless demands of battle,
many young clones must join
the struggle before their
intensive training has been
completed. These clones,
manning a vital network of
tracking stations are all that
stand between the Republic
and invasion...

This weeks webcomic seems a bit less consequential than the previous ones. Oh well, it has a mouse droid
I was worried they were going to quit doing them since it took them so long to get it up.

Another good one. Huzzah! And the next one looks like fun too (but it's not coming for 2 weeks. Gah)! I had honestly expected Clone Wars to make an annoying overly childish episode by now.
Expanded Universe references: Tibrin, Mimban (Splinter of the Mind's Eye!), Tibanna gas (or, rather, liquid Tibanna). And, of course, the 501st.
This felt a lot like Avatar: The Last Airbender. The other cartoon show that The Clone Wars director did. The humor was spot on and genuinely clever - in my opinion. "Roger roger"
Also rather interesting how they've set up Cody and Rex as direct parallels to Obi-Wan and Anakin.
The droid joke at the very end "Uh... do we take prisoners?" reminded me of this old parody video.
Definitely take a look at the concept art this week (in the spoiler tag of the first post) - there's some interesting stuff. Like the fact that they deliberately gave Rex Harrison Ford's scar and a multi-angle drawing of the 4-legged Gonk droids.

I liked this episode as well. My favorite moment was when Heavy sacrificed himself to notify the fleet. I love heroic displays like that. My favorite funny moment was when Rex impersonated a droid impersonating a clone. Good stuff so far, there's hope for this show yet.

I loved the part when Rex(or was it Cody?) shoots the droid impersonator right between the eyes as soon as he sees the flare!
This is by far my favorite episode so far! I like how they didn't hold back or find a cheesey way to save Heavy.
Best part: No Ahsoka!!!
I also noticed how they slipped the word 'hell' in there a couple times. I know it's not a 'bad' word to us, but I didn't think Cartoon Network would allow it. I guess they've loosened up.

Ever since Teen Drama Island or whatever, Cartoon NEtwork has been sorta, letting some stuff slip, i guess. TDI is pretty extreme for Cartoon Network.

Its still no where near it was when I watched it. Back when DBZ and Toonami was still on.

Liked this episode - though I skipped over Episode 4 in my viewings.
Like the Clones, but for some reason I'm just not getting attached to the new characters, maybe because they constantly seem to be introducing clones and I lose track of them. They're trying to make out every Clone to have this unique personality but it - both the personality and the idea - are getting too repetitive.

I think we'll also at least be seeing Echo again - the Clone that liked regulations. Rex (or Cody?) put that handprint on his armor (using the blue blood from the Eel). I think they did it intentionally as a way for us to "keep track" of him in future episodes.
I think its a great idea giving each Clone a personality - but you're right. I hope they start following up on the Clones they've given us (Yoda's 3, Plo's survivors, Anakin's Shadow Squadron, Rex, and now the survivors of this episode) rather than constantly adding new ones.

It was Rex that both shot the droid imposter and but the handprint on Echo. In case you were wondering. During the episode, one of the clones mentions a similar situation that had happened before in some type of canyon - which I'm guessing is from the first episode - to which the other replies, "Yeah, but there are no Jedi this time." So I'm thinking that at least one of them, probably Rex, was from the first episode.

Rex wasn't in the first episode - although he was in the Clone Wars movie.
The conversation you're referring to is actually just an expanded universe reference thrown in - and to show that Cody and Rex have a history together.
Cody says "No worse than that time on Tibrin"
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tibrin
And you're right, it was Rex that did handprint.

I loved this episode; and the series so far. They are starting to really get into some nice story arcs and the action seems to get jacked up more and more in every new installment. Hope that they keep it up and don't let the series get stale with lame story plots.

Remember Tenchi, Ronin Warriors, or even Inyuasha? A LOT more violent and explicit back then.
Anyway, FINALLY got around to watching the episode. Great one. Loved the characters, and the humor. Loved when they shot the droid right between the eyes, and when they were listening to the radio.
Also fell out of the chair when he said, "But the Reg Manual says...."

Did they show Inu Yasha during regular hours? I thought that one was always confined to Adult Swim...
Tenchi wasn't overly violent to my memory. It was mostly cartoonish or sci-fi fighting. The only thing they had to cut really besides some occasional swearing was the bath house episode - which (I think) only aired on Adult Swim (or Midnight Run, at that time) because 85% of the episode was nudity based
Anyway, I forgot to link one thing they showed on the official site that was sort of neat/weird/funny.

Also, there's some twi'lek pin-up pictures on the wall of the base, but they're hard to spot if you're not looking for them. If I get my hands on an HD version of the episode - I'll take a screencap.

I caught those, hope you can get some good shots of them!

Ah, twi-lek pin-ups, thats classic.

Not sure if there's a better shot of them, but here's a pretty decent one from the 720p HD version of the episode (which I have no idea where someone would get).
It appears one is actually human.
