SW: Jedi Outcast cookie

I discovered that if you use mind trick (level 2) right before an enemy falls to the floor, their body won't disappear and will stay for the rest of the level. Note that this doesn't work with Jedi/Sith/Reborns, and it only works when mind-trick is at level two. In other words, between the first Cairn level and the first DOOM level (I'm pretty sure). I used to 'visit' the bodies I had killed....weird. You guys should check it out.

By the way, I am OBoyOberto! on the SW blogs, so I didn't copy this from him...I am him.

Oh I thought this was about the book.

Yay for a little link to us on the bottom Smile

Anyway, darn. I was hoping for a picture of you taking a bite out of a Kyle Katarn cookie Razz

You know, I've still never played anything but the Republic Commando demo. Gyah. I also need to get Empire at War someday, for that matter.

Anyway, here's my Jedi Outcast tip.
Outcast was released in 2002. Widescreen monitors weren't common and thus it only supported square resolutions. Now everyone's switching to widescreen. It's a bit annoying to have your Jedi Outcast fun marred by two big black bars on the sides of the screen.

But you can get around it! You just need to play with the files a bit.

Get to the "base" folder inside the "GameData" folder of your Jedi Outcast folder.
Open jk2config.cfg using a text editor.

Find this line...
seta r_mode "x"
Change "x" to "-1"

Then, set these lines to your widescreen resolution
seta r_customwidth "x"
seta r_customheight "x"

Lastly, add this line to the bottom of the file.
seta cg_fov "x"

Try using 110 first for x, but move it up or down if the view looks odd when you play.

Now do it again for jk2mpconfig.cfg.

Your health, ammo, and force displays will be stretched (since they're 2D images designed to be displayed at square sizes), but the game world itself will now be in widescreen!

That sounds pretty cool Rive. However, I've got Outcast on the xbox. I simply cannot play FPS's of any form on the computer, just too complicated with too many controls, and the buttons are all spread out. I can only play strategy games on the computer. Also, do check out Republic Commando! It's on the PC, as well as a few console systems. At this point, it'd be very cheap....a real bargain. If you can play FPS's on the PC, then get Republic Commando for that rather than a console, because there's a sick cheat code for PC where you can walk/float through walls and such.

Ha! I'm the exact opposite. There are certain things I can play on consoles (racing games and fighting games being two examples), but 3D shooters are NOT one of them. I can't aim in 3D space without a mouse.

Noclip is neat. It's common to most PC FPS games. You can indeed pick up Republic Commando on the cheap these days. Although it's too bad that Lucasarts doesn't have an agreement with Steam - since that's where I buy most of my games these days. Downloading is just so much more convenient than keeping track of DVD's and waiting for shipping.

Anyway, Outcast on PC has some other neat cheats. The coolest one being "Npc spawn [character]"
Where [character] is the name of any character in the game.

Combine that with "notarget" - which makes all characters ignore you...

I probably wasted hours away setting up massive NPC fights. It's pretty fun to set up 25 stormtroopers and 3 Jedi and see who comes out on top Smile

Another fun one was setting Desann up against Luke - Desann would win 9 times out of 10 due to higher health. Desann versus a bunch of Rebel NPCs was fun too. I think it took around 40 or 50 to be able to take Desann down with their little blaster rifles before he mowed them all down.

Another neat thing I remember was if you "setforceall [level]" and set it to 4 instead of 3 (the normal maximum level), you unlocked a secret level of Jedi Mind Trick that let you take over the body of your target. So you could use it on a lone stormtrooper, then run that stormtrooper into the next room and start shooting everyone with him Very Happy
