Star Wars: Live Action 20XX

Yikes, Rick Mcallum is hoping the contract is extended to 400 one hour episodes... god... thats like 20 seasons of a normal show... Shocked

Cable eh? Well that places the most likely subjects (in the US anyway - not sure about international) as the Sci-Fi channel (and with Battlestar Galactica ending next year - they'll be in the market for something new and epic) or... The awfully expensive HBO/Cinemax... but at least it'd mean no commercials! Yay for getting to watch something live - instead of the next day via TIVO Very Happy

400 episodes is fairly directly in line with what George Lucas said months and months back - but I figured that someone would convince him that we would be crazy for even attempting.

He said it was "One show - that splits up into three shows."

So I'm guessing it'd be a bit like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. Plenty of room for expansion and only a few characters shared between the series.

So that gives us 1-3 seasons of the "original" show, and then 5 or so seasons for each spin-off.

Yikes. Well, I hope they pull it off and do it well. The prospect of Star Wars on the air until an absolute minimum of 2015 is fairly appealing.

That means I'll need to convince my mum to expand into the Sci-Fi channel by 09.. But at least that means we'd get comedy as well. Very Happy

That'd be awesome if it'd go until 2015, the only problem I could see is disinterest leading to it being cut, though I'd hope they'd let the show run its course no matter what...
Lord Vexen

I forgot which channel Sci-Fi is, but I know I have it
Xander Vos

Its Sci-Fi... lol.

Just flick through all your channels with your remote.
Scion

Remember when it was suposed to come in 07, then 08, now 09 lol. Well, at least its finally happening, at some point in time...

You forget how positively (sometimes wonderfully, sometimes not so wonderfully Smile ) crazy George Lucas is. He said that he'd produce the entire 100 episode run of Clone Wars without a provider ready to air it (which, appparently he's making good on - since, as I mentioned in another thread, they've apparently finished over 40 episodes and still don't have a buyer.)

He said he was planning to do the same thing with the Live Action series and that if no television network was interested he'd sell them as direct-to-DVD releases. But, I don't think something with "Star Wars" in the title is going to have any trouble finding a buyer Smile
Xander Vos

That's awesome, that's exactly the kind of attitude all shows need. Just because a network doesn't like them, it doesn't mean there aren't people out there who do.
Rive Caedo

"The series will be about brand new characters, a group of people we haven't seen yet, except Boba Fett, who will be an instrumental part of it. The series will also showcase other bounty hunters."

Boba Fett confirmed about a week ago (he'd been hinted at before, but not confirmed) - I just caught the news now.

Please don't make Traviss a writer of the show.... Please....

They've apparently approached several writers about writing for it, so at this stage I'm praying.

Ack! I hadn't even thought of that!

I actually wouldn't mind if she became a writer for some of the episodes that are stormtrooper heavy. Provided she put effort into it (I think the major problem she's been having is overwhelm. She's writing - what - Legacy books, Clone Wars books, and her own series books?)

Alternatively, while her style for Boba in Legacy is COMPLETELY out of whack for 40 years of the battle of yavin - it is something I could expect from Boba shortly after Episode II. I wouldn't mind if she shared the writing duties with another writer for the first half-dozen episodes with Boba - then let it pass to the other writer entirely as Boba became more of a razor-edged mercenary.

I'm more worried about Mando'a references, an abundance of Mandalorians, and a soft, sappy Boba despite the Boba series establishing him as cold and hard after his father's death.
Lord Vexen

Agreed, plus she will make him invincible, like killing 30 Stormtroopers at once without a scratch, even though he isn't supposed to die anyway.

I actually wouldn't mind an entrance like that for Boba.

See - the way I see it is that Boba wouldn't become this sentimental ninny he is in Legacy. The Legacy Boba that's comforted every time he see's someone with Jango blood in them. No, I think he'd grow to hate every single remaining living Jango clonetrooper for reminding him of his own painful past. He'd even grow to hate his own face - which is why Boba is always, always, always helmeted.

So I could see Boba taking a bounty - finding his target being arrested by a group of CloneStormtroopers (since they'll probably be mostly still clones, when the series starts anyway). He jetpacks in - ignites the squad of Stormies with his flamethrower and then grapples his bounty target with his other wrist.

Killing the stormtroopers was a bonus Smile
Sephiroth

You know, I like how Boba is being sentimental though. I mean, if I lived all my life like he did, then had a family to take care of. You're damn right I'd be emotional about them and restoring the Mandolorians.
Xander Vos

But suddenly changing his personality to a moping softy who thinks about his father every second of the day when he never did in other stories, isn't at all odd to you?

That's exactly the issue. Boba isn't supposed to be like everyone else. If he were, he'd be Han Solo and not Boba Fett.

"Classic" Boba likely wouldn't have cared for family he didn't know. Classic Boba would have taken a contract on his own daughter if the money were right Razz

He also wore the title of "Last of the Mandalorians" and attacked other armor wearers as "fakes".

"What if he doesn't survive? He's worth a lot to me." is the quote that should form the core of Boba's character. Boba is looking out for one guy - himself. Everyone else is just a potential bounty Smile

Bah, maybe we need to change the title of this thread now...

Star Wars fans will have to wait a bit longer than originally expected for the upcoming live-action Star Wars television series, says George Lucas. Lucas spoke to comingsoon.net at the ShoWest convention and revealed that he doesn't expect the series to debut until 2010 now, instead of 2009. "The live action show probably won't start until 2010," said Lucas. "We're working on it now, doing the scripts and everything."

Quote:
Said Lucas, "I'm just starting to work on the scripts now for the live-action TV series. We finished the first year of Clone Wars, [and] we're in the middle of working on the second year. I'm finishing the scripts for the third year. And now I'm working on the scripts for the first year of the live-action show. [Smiles] So it's a lot of scripts."

Quote:
When Lucas was asked by EW about the possibility of meeting a young Han Solo on the live action series, he replied, "No, well, this has nothing to do with those series. Some of the characters from the features find their way in there, so it's not completely divorced. It's as if we just went down the street and told a different story. You know, we were doing, I don't know, 24, and now we're going to move down the street here and do The Wire. Same thing, it's just different people doing the same thing in the same city." He added, "it's a familiar world, it's just that you're seeing a completely different side of it."

Quote:
Asked if any sets are being built yet, he told EW, "No, what we do in our TV series is we write the entire first year and finish it as a script. Then we start getting ready to shoot it, then we start casting, and then we do it. We know where the whole first year is before we even start to work on it. I mean, I can do that because I'm financing the whole thing. So I've got it pegged out for 100 episodes, and I know exactly what I'm going to do and how I'm going to do it and what the risks are."

I was checking to see if there were any new updates on the series when I found and interesting link I hadn't seen before in the "external links" section.

"SW.com blog documenting elements of the show"

Ooo, I thought. Did one of the producers of the show open up a blog detailing the concepts behind the show? That'd be neat...

Nope. It's a link to... me!
