Sending out a mass emailI said this in General Discussion, but we need to send out a mass email to all of our users. Some of them may not check their email, but one was reached with a simple PM. It wouldn't hurt to try, would it?

This is a good idea and should be done. Let's be honest, we need some more members back and some more activity.
|
Darth Samuel
|
it isn't all roleplaying based either. I don't think any current roleplay is going on, which saddens me.
|
Rive Caedo
|
Hm...
I suppose we might consider doing this a month from now - just before the Clone Wars TV Series starts.
|
Darth Samuel
|
okay. that'd work.
|

Hopefully the TV series rekindles people's interests in SW.
|
Darth Samuel
|
If not, then we have to wait 5 years until live action. which has to rekindle some and bring in new. i don't know what we'll do for 5 years, but thats beside the point.
|
Rive Caedo
|
They're saying "2010" for live action, not 2013.
Clone Wars should rekindle some interest. Even if it's coming people coming on once per week to say "well that sucked!"
If it's anything like the movie though, it'll be me and Carnage and maybe a few others defending it. Should make for some nice weekly debates.
|
Darth Samuel
|
ah. two years. Men, prepare to engage no-life mode,
|
Darth Splinter
|
I thought the live action came out next year? Ah well, maybe I'm dieseased.
|
Rive Caedo
|
It was originally supposed to be next year, but they ended up pushing it back due to the Writer's Strike preventing them from starting on the first scripts and Clone Wars being a bigger project than they expected.
|
Darth Splinter
|
...a bigger project that should've been dropped if it weren't for Lucas hungering for more money and not using his time machine to go into the future and seeing how many fans hated it.
|
Darth Samuel
|
Rive, did you vote lol wut pear?

Yes. Which for me meant:

Another option: Start a forum war with maybe two people in it.
Mass Email "Hey, we need you to join the forum war! Come back to our site to compete in a fierce roleplay! Wits required!"
Simple; and it doesn't seem as if its as much spam as saying "Hey guys. Sorry to bother you, but the forum is moving slow, so come back! K thx by!"
If the war never happens...well, at least we had a better excuse for a mass email.

Hm... Well today's surge of activity has warmed me up to this idea a bit more. I specifically didn't like the idea of exactly what you're worried about (saying "we're slow, help") - but today showed that the activity and excitement is still there. Things are heating up and more people can only help.
So I was thinking more along the lines of...
"Greetings!
You are receiving this email because you are now or were, at some point in time, a member of the Rebels Roleplaying Community. Or, perhaps you knew it as The Jedi Order.
Think of this as a bit of a homing beacon. Rebels started in the aftermath of Revenge of the Sith's release. Things have simmered down a bit over the past 3 years, but now things are starting to heat back up. The Force Unleashed is being released to video game consoles tomorrow. And in just two weeks, on October 3rd, The Clone Wars is coming to Cartoon Network and TNT as a full weekly TV series!
So if you're already an active Rebels' member - consider this a thank you for keeping us one of the bright corners of the internet since 2005! If you've faded away - we'd sure like to see you again!

Well, the way I've written it (The Force Unleashed is being released tomorrow), it would be sent out September 15th. So we have until then to refine it. We also have until then to refine the community. Hopefully we can get some roleplaying activity rolling so that people returning to do that won't feel like it's a dead art

I just recently joined WoW and it is true, I am not prepared! Any high level WoW players want to kill things in dungeons for me to help me level up?
I think sending out a mass email is good and will remind people of the site but in my experience it never really draws anyone back. -shrug-

rofl I couldn't help but to laugh at that.
|
Rive Caedo
|
I think the type of person we might draw back is someone who left the site at least 6 months ago who wanted to come back but forgot the URL.
Whatever the results, it can't hurt to try.
Although now I'm not so sure again, since I've got twenty or so updated threads just since I logged in last night. I won't be able to keep up with everything if we get many more members

Heheh, S&V posted in the Grand Temple not too long back, but didn't stick around.
Anyway, 3 more weeks before this is sent out.
Sam does have an interesting point. We may want to list some of the longtime members who are still around in an image of sorts... I remember someone did an image like that for our 2nd Anniversary last year. I think it was Io, but I'm not sure.

Users we need* back:
Lyn Korak
Jedi Abba
Lord Lanik

Anakin
Padme1200
Obi-tyler
TCO(Can be reached with a simple PM)
Ghostjedi17
Lady Saber
Adenn(Somewhat easily reachable)

Siilos Vast(Now its getting into a wishlist. )

I thought LadyAnakin93 was banned.
Common misconception: Siilos Vast was a forum veteran. Siilos made 746 posts; but in the period of only one month. I think he just lost interest in the forum.

Siilos is a forum veteran. His everlasting influence is enough to put him up there with the biggest ones.
|
Rive Caedo
|
Siilos was a good member, good enough that I'm willing to grant veteran status - instrumental in starting the forum. Although you're right, Siilos was a very short-term member - which makes "Siilos's Return!" a bit of a running joke - we know it's not really going to happen
Lanik has been off and on for the past couple of months. So I wouldn't include him on the list.
Besides Adenn, Lady Saber is also a member that could likely come back.
If I could wave a magic wand and make a member super active again, it'd probably be TCO. But he's too busy playing Team Fortress 2 and Company of Heroes
But any other of those members would be great to have back too.
Sam the Smuggler is one member I notice missing from the list. He's not a prolific poster - only 479 posts since he joined in the first month of the forum. But he was active all the way until Christmas of last year - it'd be good to see him again.

I can't take it any more. I want 2006 back. Hell, I'd take 2007. Does anyone know msn/aim/anything about these guys that we can remind them of the forum. like anyone that was above 500 posts in 2006/2007. You guys might be happy with this slow posting(There are short bursts, but it is still slow), But I am getting bored with looking at the forum and seeing one green lightsaber. I like seeing many. So many you have to post fast.
|
Xander Vos
|
I've got a bunch if you want them.
I think there's just a general non-creative mood about the forum at the moment. Kudos to Dakoth for trying to bring his RP back, and I don't think we should classify any current RPs as dead, because I think there's just a creative slump, me included.
|
Darth Samuel
|
I mean, when this forum was created, and in the months afterwards, there was so much energy, it seemed like. I would go to bed and to school knowing that when i got home, there'd be something for me to do while bored(Which quickly into an addiction, probably for others as well. )) I have so many memories of this place, good and bad, and now is the first time i can honestly say i have been bored. Up till my last post of 2007(September 29th), everything seemed normal. It seems like October/november things slowed.
|
Xander Vos
|
Something strange happened and I can't explain it. Perhaps when Rive's final part of Without Sin starts it'll kick start things, but after the last part finished, and a new set of RPs - pioneered by Dakoth and myself - started up, as well as my new story and Rive's, it seemed like we were going INTO a period of activeness, not out of one.
With the Debates forum at least, there's interesting stuff happening, but I think the death of the Forum Wars signified the start of the lack of interest in RPing, and now its just caught up with the rest of the forum.
|
Darth Samuel
|
I don't want to be mean, but when Shadow split it off, the Forum Wars sort of lost what would have been cool. An Actually forum war between two factions. It would have been legendary. Might have made this site even more active. I still wish that the mends could be healed. But that probably won't happen.
|
Rive Caedo
|
You stated the problem directly in your first post up there:
"I would go to bed and to school knowing that when I got home, there'd be something for me to do while bored."
When the forum started the majority of the user base was in 6th-8th grade. Now the majority of the user base in High School. They're working harder, some have part time jobs, they're looking into colleges. Once you pass that stage you generally don't have the benefit of staying on the internet chatting at all hours of the night. So what happens is you get people coming on for 5-30 minutes a day, checking every thread, and then replying to the ones that interest them. So you still get conversation - it just generally can't be rapid fire because people don't all get on at the same time: we can't.
Except for Fridays and Saturdays sometimes. Hm...
|
Darth Samuel

I jsut ignore my homework. Which lead s to me getting bad grades. I should do something about that... tomorrow.

Random story I'm telling for the hell of it.
Last week, I saw a huge blast from the past. Menwyn Ironsides, a very old member who hadn't posted in over two years, was on the forum. I was thinking "wtf?" So I sent her a PM saying "Wow, haven't seen you in ages!" then she logged out. A minutes later, karin Storm logged in, and I was thinking to myself "conspiracy?"

Karin storm is a boy(same as his character on GotF, which is a girl 0_o) so I'm guessing that that would make sense.
