But it still poses off of star wars too...Brom hermit living outside secluded village to watch over the lands only hope...obi-wan kenobi=hermit lving outside secluded moisture farm to watch over the galaxy's only hope...that one dude with the golden dragon=in hiding so that he might train the next dragon rider but is very old, but is also wise...Yoda=in hiding so that he might train the next Jedi but it very old, but is also very wise...see what I mean?

Well you bunch of nubs managed to get this topic off already.
It's a bit of both but I don't look at it from ripping off from Star Wars or Lotr's because I like the books very much, there very well written IMO. But I do admit the movie was horrible. Also if you read you would know that both Star Wars and Lotr inspired the author to write Eragon..
I think he even started the books before the Lotr's movies were done..
