Padawan Promotion to Knight-hood

As I have experienced with my old Padawan, LukeSkywalker, a Master is not in control of their Padawan, unable to know when their training will be finished, or how long they have.

What I propose, is that before a Padawan is promoted that final time and enters Knighthood, the Master is PMed, and asked their opinion of their Apprentice.

This gives the Master to explain they think their Padawan still needs some training, and isn't ready to have an Apprentice of their own, or to affirm the Council's confidence that this person is ready.

This would give the Master some sense of control over their Apprentice. This fits with the SW Universe, because it was highly rare for a Padawan to be promoted either without their Master's consent, or without their master knowing in advance.
Lord Embeion

Theres 3 things to this..It ethier gets shot down...Rises in glory..or gets approved and runs straight into the ground...But I voted yes..Because what happend when I was training DraglingandKeto I didnt feel he was properly trained.
Xander Vos

Yeah. I think I need to make it clear though, that my reference to LukeSkywalker began and ended with the reference to never actually training him. I never meant to imply that he wasn't properly trained, if thats the way my comments are taken.

Who was the third who voted yes?
Lord Embeion

Most likely Lukeskywalker,lol

But yes I still had manymanymany things to go over with DraglingandKeto..Now he is suffering having to train Ghoster.

That would be me Razz
Xander Vos

Yeah, my point exactly. Some Apprentices may even WANT to remain Apprentices, and not be forced into Knighthood, and expected to train someone else. Besides the fact that they'll feel pressured, it'll start to breed poorer and poorer generations of Jedi, as each generation becomes worse. IMO we need to nip the bud in the head.
Lord Embeion

BUt this would only work if the Padawan was at the Padawan rank...Hrmmm so it would kinda be useles......Prehaps they only can get prmoted rom F to younling by getting a master (theres plenty) and then work through...By time he/she hits padawan you would have been giving enough time to fullfil the training.
Xander Vos

Thats what I mean. Council decides when to promote, say, bob, until Bob becomes a Padawan. Then it is effectively up to Bob's Master when to promote Bob to Knight, but the Master, say, John, also needs the Council. Council can't promote Bob without John's consent, and John can't promoted Bob without Council's consent.
Lord Embeion

yes,That would work. But I doubt the council will go for this... Confused
Xander Vos

Why not? Whats to loose? If they don't go with it, it means we'll be getting worse Knights, with worse training, and worse understanding of the forum. If they do do it, they'll be getting disciplined, knowlegable Knights, who are able to help newer members around, and may, hopefully for me, use proper grammar. Laughing
Lord Embeion

Yes,good point. But it will them more work..having to check in and out with the Masters.Thats why if any doubt.
Xander Vos

Well, nothings acheived without hard work, but I guess its up to them. If they want under-trained Apprentices, or put in some effort, and get better trained Apprentices, its up to them. I am merely the suggestor. Laughing
Lord Embeion

Yes....I agree.
Xander Vos

Thank you. I hope they do to. Laughing
Xander Vos

Shocked Someone from the Council voted no, and I think it was SaV, considering hes the only one on, Laughing.

Why don't you like the idea? Don't you want better trained Apprentices? Don't you care if under trained people train their own Apprentices even more poorly, and so on?
SkywalkerAndVader

I haven't even voted, I'm still thinking.
Xander Vos

Hm, then either someone has been a dork and has voted on the wrong one, or another CM has been on and off without me noticing. Laughing
Xander Vos

Double Post.

Just posting the stats:

It wouldn't even be that hard to maintain. There have been 22 promotions, and 17 promotions to Knighthood. Thats less then one a round, and simple to keep track of. Its just like the CMs PM people about to become Sentinal, Guardian or Consular, to check what they want to be, so its not like it would be anything new.
Lord Embeion

make it one of the councilmembers duty to keep track.
Xander Vos

Exactly. They could easily have, say Brian updating the thread, Ashley changing everyone's ranks, Lisa PMing everyone to check whether they want to be Sentinal, Guardian or Consular, and John checking Masters if their Apprentices are ready.
Lord Embeion

Yup..Well there would be also a tad more to it..*whhooootzor my 2500 post*
Xander Vos

Not really... trust me, I used to do it. Changing someone's rank takes like two seconds, and editting a post takes maybe two minutes, add maybe ten people getting promoted, that caps off at under three minutes.
Lord Embeion

Shhhh...thats a secret remember,lol Wink
Xander Vos

Yeah, I guess it is. Laughing
Xander Vos

BUMPing this because it appears the COuncil hasn't seen this, or they would have replied in here... Laughing
Dork of Mordork

Well, I voted yes. I think it would be a good thing, though I didn't have that problem ever. I was usually in control in a way.

And being on the Council, I kinda have a say in my current padawan's promotions, so...

But yeah, I think it'd be a good thing.
Jedi Tress

To me this looks like the Master ssas my Padawan is ready and the Council ten decides. Is that right?
Xander Vos

No, it would be lkike, the Council is deciding on promotions, and they PM the Master and say their thinking about promoting, say, Bob, but the Master says Bob isn't ready.

That way the Council isn't being told when to promote the padawan, just being told when NOT to promote him, if you know what I mean. Wink

Just realised, two of the Council voted no, but three voted yes... does that mean its a go ahead, or what?

And I kind of thought those twoi who voted no would say so here so we could refine it into however they wanted.
Lyn Korak

I like this idea. But I thought of a situation:

What if the Padawan, has been VERY active on the Forum, but has been ignoring your Assignments/Tasks? Huh?
Xander Vos

. . . Then he or she wouldn't be promoted, obviously. The Council may want to promote them for activeness but the Master refuses because they ren't ready in all other senses.
Lyn Korak

Yeah, true.

Lol, I think that people may be confused with two yeses, and voted yes (Council Members) but oh well.
Xander Vos

How is it confusing? Confused

One says Vote Yes (Council Members Only) the other says Yes (Everyone Else) I thought it was pretty clear... Confused
Lyn Korak

Hey, look at the results for the Poll! There are 3 on both! There is only, possibly 4 active Members I think!

Oh well, just go by the yes' Lol.
Lord Embeion

lol...6council...Its a tie..
Lyn Korak

Basically 10 v. 3.

IMO, people that voted no for the Council, just wanted to make it look like the Council didnt like it.
Xander Vos

Yeah, theres only Abba, Jaden, SaV, Shatterpoint, and DoM who are active for the Council, which means someone voted for the council when they didn't. And Brian, Ashley and John have said they like it, meaning the person who falsly voted was in the No category, which means the majority of the COuncil like it, and the majority of everyone else likes it.
Lord Embeion

Well if your truely want a true breaker..You could email Rive to come on and vote...
Xander Vos

Or comment in one of his blogs on sw.com. Wink
Lord Embeion

Prehaps..but E-mail prob more effective..Thats how Jaden got hold of him..Next day he was on.
Xander Vos

Ok, I'll check into that when I get home. Laughing

aaah so the truth comes out... Xander wants to brainwash the forum into grammer bots! Razz

i think this is a good idea though, but considering my apprentice up and left.. well.... meh.
