Opening Up the Forum Wars

I think we actually did some fun stuff with the Forum Wars - a neat little opening crawl I got to do and I think Centerpoint actually went pretty well for the most part.

But, as a conversation with Samuel just reminded me - I don't think any of us have the time right now to give it the attention it deserves. It's been sitting there locked down for months. Not doing anything but taking up screen space Razz

So I think its time we open it up as a more standard roleplaying period. Close down the Forum Wars-specific sections and roll them into the regular Roleplaying section. Anyone would be able to create roleplays in that time period if they wanted to.

Thoughts?

For once, I disagree with the great Rive.

I think, if we create a new battle in the Forum Wars, people will participate. But I think the Forum wars should be left how they are. This should be to avoid confusion in the roleplaying forum (is it forum war or not?). Also, forum war battles are to be officially released from the administration, so I think to avoid a huge cluster of massive battles, we should have them released one at a time in the ordinary way. There was nothing wrong with the old method (in my opinion) and I liked it. The problem was that we should release battles more often.

Here's an idea that could speed up battles:

A new forum in the Forum War category for suggestions. These suggestions would be roleplays that needed to be approved- such as canon forum war battles- by an admin or mod. Only three battles could continue at a time at tops (preferably less). Battles would have to make sense. If Geonosis is the main concentration of forces in the galaxy, no massive army of millions of troops will just take over Coruscant. If a character is in a certain position in space, he/she should stay close to it for some time.

other approved battles that will not go up for the time being (due to the fact that only 3 battles at most can be used) will be filed away. When a position for a battle opens, members will vote. The votes will be a list f battles they'd like up or if they would like to simply continue their current battles for the time being (ex: Vote: A) Vulpter B) Coruscant C)Malastere D) None ). Eventually, if all battles are finished and no more are being placed up, the Sith and Jedi councils will decide on what to put on. At most, there could be a three day period of no battles between voting, but I hope a continuous stream of roleplays will come up.

i actually had a conversation that mattered? armagedon won't be long...

That's actually not a bad idea, Mort, with one change.

The core of the problem is that the most active members of the Council have their own projects they're running right now. I have the Without Sin series, Xander has Destiny Eclipse, and Embeion (presumably) has Coruscant Assault.

So voting for battle locations isn't the problem. The problem is actually getting the time to write up the introduction and set the stage for the battle and bridge it to the previous battle.

So, perhaps, we could hold a miniature contest before each battle allowing people to submit not just a battle location - but also the description setting up that battle.

Here's how Centerpoint's looked.

Quote:
Objective: Centerpoint Station

Location: Corellian System
Currently Held By:
The Galactic Republic
Republic Forces (Defending): Three Capital Ships (1 Kenobi-class Star Destroyer), Six Cruisers, Four Fighter Wings. 12-20 Jedi.
Sith Forces (Attacking): Four Captial Ships (1 Striker-class Star Destroyer), Four Cruisers, Three Fighter Wings, Eight Shuttles Containing 5 Sith each (total of 40 Sith).

Objective Details: Centerpoint Station lies directly between the planets Talus and Tralus in the Corellian system. The two planets orbit perfectly around the station as all three orbit the Corellian star, Corell. All five planets in the Corellian system (Corellia, Drall, Selonia, Talus, and Tralus) and Centerpoint Station are currently held by the Republic.
Due to a declaration by the Republic Senate, Centerpoint's main reactor is currently offline.
If brought online, Centerpoint has the power to create immensely powerful Hyperspace Tractor Beams - which can be used for both constructive and destructive purposes.

"They'll be expecting this." The executive officer of the Striker-class Sith Star Destroyer Eviscerator said in a monotone voice to mask his concern.

"Doubtless. But they'll also be expecting an assault on Fondor's shipyards, sabotage on Coruscant, and raids on countless other strategic targets." Commander Scryth redirected his attention from the Eviscerator's tactical monitors displaying the Corellian System to his XO, "They're divided and leaderless. We won't get another chance like this. Centerpoint Station could end this war before it's even really begun."

"Coming out of Hyperspace, sir." a navigation officer said from behind the commander.

Scryth didn't face the officer, "And?"

"Scanners report... three Republic capital ships and six cruisers. They're moving to block us and launching fighters."

Scryth's executive officer spoke, "More than you expected, sir?"

The Sith commander nodded then turned to his tactical officers, "Order all fighters to move directly into the Republic fleet's position. They'll be hesitant to fire when they'll be risking hitting their own forces."

The executive officer looked impressed, "That should provide ample cover for the boarding shuttles to approach - provided their fighters engage our own. But, what's to stop them from redirecting all of their larger ship's fire towards our fleet?"

"Nothing. Reinforce forward shields."

"Sensors report four capital ships and crusiers, sir. I'm also reading several boarding shuttles in the rear." a Republic tactical officer shouted over the alert siren on the bridge.

Commander Marcus of the Kenobi-Class Star Destroyer Allana's head whipped around to hear a report from a second station, "Orders from Admiral Narshal, sir. We're to maneuver to block the Sith fleet from attacking Centerpoint Station."

"Comply. Move us into position." the commander dropped his voice to a whisper, "They aren't looking to fire on it, they're going to try to capture it. They're going to slip right through our lines..."

Marcus' hands were tied by military regulations and couldn't defy the Admiral's orders, but there was something he could do. "Communications, signal Centerpoint. Tell them to prepare to repel boarders."

There were at least a dozen Jedi on Centerpoint station now, but if the Republic Naval Forces were unable to prevent a majority of the Sith Forces from boarding... that wouldn't be enough.

((This battle will be more heavily moderated than the Battle of Naboo based on feedback during that roleplay.
The emphasis now is on making tactical choices based on what role(s) you're playing. Except for minor outcomes, you're largely expected to wait for a Moderator or Administrator to post the outcome of your choices.

For instance, in this introduction, Sith Commander Scryth has ordered his fighters to intercept the Republic Fleet in an attempt to prevent the Republic's larger vessels from firing on them and forcing the Republic's own fighters to engage - preventing them from attacking the Sith shuttles.

It is now up to Republic/Jedi players to react. They may choose to do exactly what the Sith are expecting, which is to engage the Sith's fighters with their own. This will result in many of the Sith shuttles reaching Centerpoint station, but would prevent damage to the Republic's fleet and eliminate the Sith Fighter threat. They may also decide to engage the Sith shuttles with their fighters and ignore the Sith's fighters entirely. This would result in severe damage to the Republic's fleet and leave the Sith fighters as an ongoing threat, but would prevent many boarders from reaching Centerpoint station. A final option would be to send the Republic fighters to intercept the Sith shuttles and order the Republic's larger ships to fire on the Sith fighters. This would result in the short-term victory of preventing the majority of boarders and destroying the Sith fighters, but due to the Repbulic's larger ships being in such close formation around Centerpoint station - they would cause crippling damage to themselves by firing on the Sith fighters maneuvering between them - it would also leave the Sith's larger vessels entirely undamaged.

Thus, it's up to you to decide what to do - but you can't be entirely sure of what the outcome may be. Choose wisely.))

Heh, I've got all the time in the world. It's mid to late summer, I'm a 12 year old nerd with no life.... START 'EM UP!  Very Happy

Mmm, well we had the rough outline of how we wanted to cap off Centerpoint and how we wanted to start the next battle. I even finished the opening crawl. It's just that no one has found the time to actually write out the full thing for publication  Razz
If you were to flesh it out a bit - and then the Grand Council edited it a bit... I suppose we could give Battle 3 a try.

I suppose there's no harm in PMing you that (SUPER DUPER GRAND TEMPLE SECRET) stuff. It's been sitting stagnant for 3-4 months  Confused

I guess my suggestion for the forum wars is that the site leaders should not focus on their individual RP stories, but this larger RP that will unify the site. I know we've had this discussion and I'm not trying to insult anyone because there have obviously been some good RPs but the fact that there are so many RPs and the leaders aren't leading them things become stagnant. People become busy but if the focus is on the forum wars then it's easier to direct it.

So i guess after Kalibann and Coruscant and all these other RPs are finished and forgotten, the leaders should just say, "hey, this is the direction we're going in. You do this, I'll do that, we'll meet at this point there."

But then again I don't know if the site has ever followed a single storyline/timeline so I am not sure if that's the direction you want to take. -shrug-

This site has once, during when Shadow was writing LOES which was never finished for that matter, or when Xander was writing DE.
