KotOR I Vs. Sith LordsProbably you've had plenty of topics like this one...
Which one of the two KotOR-games did you enjoy most, and why? What could've been improved? Also share any tactics on certain fights if you want to!
Personally I actually found Sith Lords to be more enjoyable to play. It had a great feeling; the music outdid the odd and short tracks of the prequel and the interface was much more confortable. Some claim that SL had a great deal of bugs, but I did never find any bugs that I found annoying enough to stop playing, but I did find a helluva lot of bugs in KotOR I. Especially the music of SL felt truly Star Warsy, and the environments felt very populated, but that applies for the first game too.
Hehe, I remember when I kinda exploited my way through the fight with Malak. You just have to be a Consular and have Force Speed, Destroy Droid, Force Wave and as much Wisdom as you possibly can gather, like with Circlet of Saresh and Starforge Jedi Robes, which has the effect that Malak can't resist you Force Wave. When he starts draining the semi-dead Jedi knights you'll destroy the machines with Destroy Droid. Then make sure you have Force Speed on at all times so that you can outrun Malak. It's cheap, so it's only a matter of seconds before you can activate it again if you're out of FP. Then there's Force Wave, also very cheap, which causes a small amount of damage and stuns him for a while. Keep doing that until he's down. Takes time, but it's effective.

I guess for gameplay I'd pick KotOR II. For the story, usually the first one, but it really depends on what I feel like. I really enjoyed both. I kind of see it as, the first way around KotOR I's story is better, but for playing the game multiple times I'd say the second takes my vote.

I'd have to agree with Brian
Gameplay KoTORII and story KoTORI
But if I had to choose one I would pick the first.

I'm in the same vein of thought. The combat in KOTOR I wasn't necessarily buggy, it was just much more easily exploitable than the sequel. By focusing on Flurry and Force Speed, you could take out Malak in 1 to 2 rounds of combat.
BUT KOTOR II was completely tainted by its incomplete ending. So even if its gameplay was slightly improved, overall KOTOR I is a superior product.

Kotor 2 in a landslide.
As far as gameplay, their's no argument that Kotor 2 is better. Everything was more fluid, the interface easier to work with, and many more feats and force powers! Plus, you actually care to talk to you're allies more. Because you can influence them, and if you talk sh** to them you're going to lose influence. I could insult allies as I please in kotor 1, and they still felt the same way about me. The only thing better about Kotor 1 is the story, everything else reigns supreme in Kotor 2.

The just needed to wrap it up better. The exile and triumvirate was awesome ideas.. just after you kill Darth Traya.. *fartnoise*. I mean atleast with Revan they had the medal scene and it basically told you what he was gonna do.

I did like Kotor I a little better, one thing that I liked better about 2 was the dialogue. In the first they kept bothering me that I should talk to Carth and other people. I didn't care if Carth trusted me or not, I don't trust half (maybe more) of the people that I know very much. Except for when you get to Saul, Carth kind of bores me. The rest was very good, IMO.
The second one did have its' up points though. Combat was better and Kraya was more interesting to have around than anyone that was only in the first. My two big problems were that I did have a problem with bugs (I played the 1st on PC and the 2nd on Xbox, I don't know if the one on Xbox had more bugs than the PC one) and the second was that I found Peragus kind of a boring place. You just kill the same stupid droids over and over for the first part. They do change them up a little every now and then, but comparing Taris to Peragus, I enjoyed Taris a lot more.

I'm just throwing this out there, but I've always thought Carth is the whiniest biatch in SW history. "I don't trust you." "I hate being left out of the loop." "I'll kill Saul." I hate him, if I had it my way he'd have been shot by me on site, or Saul would have murdered him.

I've never finished KOTOR, got it lying around at home somewhere and I should probably, but I do much prefer it to KOTOR 2, just because of the feel of it and the storyline.

What? Lol, I rented the game out a few times and got only through a few planets, then I bought it a while back and got up to Tatooine as one of my first planets I think and then just stopped playing X-Box as much so I haven't really finished it.

I rented Kotor a few times before buying it, never beat it. Thought I finally did a few months back.
***SPOILERS***
Even after I'd purchased it, I stopped playing for months before I picked it up again (played, I did buy it,) due to the fact I couldn't beat Saul during the Bridge battle. Saul was a lot harder for me than Malak, due to those freaking grenadiers. Plus, Bastila and Carth suck in combat, unless you develop Carths' strength and give him a melee weapon, which I did my second play-through. And the one thing I despise in both games, is when you get those people (ie.Mission, Bastila,) who have high dexterities, but nothing else. If you're a jedi, you'd better either have a high Strength or Wisdom skill, if not, you're useless to me.
Phew. Long rant, but had to say it. Hope you guys could read it, I sometimes fail to make sense when I go into 'rant' mode.

Yeah first time I played it I thought it'd be good to give everyone blasters because then they can hurt the opposition without getting hurt. Didn't really understand that melee weapons can be better.

I seriously don't know anybody who would actually use blasters. They pretty much exist for your enemies, but how many people actually use them? Few. They pale in comparison to the effectiveness of melee weapons. And +9 to any gamer whose beaten both games using blasters for the main character...it must be difficult. Another thing, I find blasters very dull to use, just seems like all you can do is fire away...nothing intruiging there. Plus, not enough powerful blasters.
And random sidenote: I always give Mandalore and Canderous melee weapons. Due to their strength, it's easily the better option.

I give them blasters. Blasters are good if two of your three party members are 'dead' and you're only fighting random enemies. Like on Tatooine, I just made Ordo run away from the group of enemies until you're far enough away to take a shot, shoot, keep running, get far enough away to shoot, take a shot, keep running. Generally works, though sometimes I misjudge it.

I do something similar. Except with grenades. When fighting Bendak Starkiller, I just ran, waited for him to pull out his pistol again, then chucked a grenade...and so on.

Run around the room using Force Lightsaber throw on Malak?

Wow, never considered that...I should try it during my next play-through.

I usually kept at least 1 blaster user in my party. 3 melee characters just looked silly beating up on one bad guy and made you more vulnerable to grenades and lightning.

All this talk makes me want to whip it out and try it again!

Rive, can't agree with you more!
Xander, way ahead of you. I probably will start SL for the 3½ time now.

Xander Vos

Meh, I've played SL through enough times, bored of it now. KOTOR though, I might continue tonight...

Meh, played it so recently, so I doubt my strenght's recovered yet.

Wisdom. The stat? I assume that was what you meant with "strength"?
|
Xander Vos

I was referring to you saying your strength wasn't up to another round of KOTOR so soon...?
|
Darth Thilus
|
Oh. You accidentally wrote "you're". That was what confused me.
|
Xander Vos
|
Oh, woops.
|
Darth Thilus
|
Anyhow. The first time I tried SL I exploited my way trough the Sion-fight. Took a God-damned 15 minutes to beat him. And after that I'd chosen the wrong abilities to take down Traya/Kreia. 2 ½ time I tried I was a consular with only Wisdom and Force Storm, and I as good 3-shotted Sion, and 4-shotted her. So much for fun final battles.

Rive Caedo

I'm taking away a point for that, Xander
Also: I think "whoops" is more standard - although that could be an international language difference?
|
Xander Vos
|
Nooo!!
Woops is used more commonly here I think.
