Kallibann: Shadowed Reflection (TRRPG)

Kallibann: a dead world. Various ruins littered the northern hemisphere, some of which were still in rather good condition. Despite this, Kallibann had been void of sentient life since at least the founding of the Old Republic. A place of little to no significance. Placed roughly between Dantooine and Belkadan it was not along any trade route and was too far out of the way even for smugglers. Nearly untouched by the galaxy at large, Kallibann was little more than a footnote in the Galactic Hyperspace Registry.

... Until now.

A massive disturbance in The Force had been rippled across half the galaxy - originating from this point. It had been so powerful that even most untrained Force Sensitive individuals across the galaxy had felt its energy. And so, of course, the few remaining trained Force users in the universe had as well.
Suddenly this previously unimportant sector of the galaxy had become the center of galactic activity. The Empire was attempting to quiet the talk - and had gone so far as to ban the word "Kallibann" over Holonet connections.

In addition to those who could literally hear its call, seekers of answers, adventure, fortune, and fame had come from all corners of the galaxy to investigate the oddity.

They had found something of an answer. An astonishingly tall, glittering silvery-white spire stood in the northern hemisphere of the planet. It was clearly newer than the rest of the ruins that dotted the planet and so drew suspicion. These suspicions were confirmed when the first person to touch the spire was... vaporized. A blazing white light had enveloped them and left nothing more than a short scream and a pile of ash.

And so, for the past week... nothing much had occurred. No one dared to touch the spire directly, blasters seemly had no effect on it, and nothing else had either. A small shanty town of tents and starcraft had gradually grown larger and larger around the spire as more people had arrived on the planet. There were now several occupants jokingly running for mayor of "Spire City".

Rive Caedo: a Jedi of the hidden Bakuran Order, recently promoted to Master (though this decision was disputed), his scurffled mass of hair only beginning to gray was lying asleep in a hammock hung inside his tent beneath the spire. He had been seeking asylum and adventure on the nearby planet of Dantooine, and therefore he was the first Jedi to arrive on Kallibann - and also therefore his tent was on prime real estate very close to the silvery-white structure.

Now the Jedi was obviously more relaxed after being on the planet for a week, but when he'd first arrived it'd been different. When he'd come out of hyperspace he'd been shocked to find that the planet wasn't there. Or rather, it WAS there, it showed up on scanners and to his own eyes, but it didn't FEEL there. Kallibann was now a blank spot in the force. Not so much a hole, or a rift, just... not there at all. It felt like... space.

After setting down on the surface in his Z-95, he had immediately sensed it was worse than he feared, because he couldn't sense anything. For the first time in years, Rive felt again what it was like to be without the Force to guide him. He briefly considered taking back off and heading back to the relative safety of --- anywhere. The thought caught him off-guard. It was the first time he'd regarded a place as more dangerous than the majority of the galaxy since the Empire had risen up two years ago. Was he really that dependent on the Force that being without it was more frightening than an entire empire that'd placed a price on his (and every other Jedi's) head?

After hopping out of his cockpit, he activated his lightsaber and took a few practice swings - it felt clumsy, unwieldy, foreign - without the Force to assist him. With a sigh he began unpacking a survival tent and strapped his nearly 3 decade old Bryar blaster pistol to his belt.

He wasn't sure what to do then. But he couldn't leave such an anomaly alone. Now, a week later, he still wasn't sure what to do. The glittering white tower still stood imposingly - casting a shadow over his tent for about half of the day. More and more people arrived every day - but none had answers or new suggestions.

And so, like everyone else in Spire City, he awaited a change...

((Welcome back to Kallibann! A world without The Force!

This takes place about 17 BBY, 4 or 5 years before Abba formed the "modern" Jedi Council. And 2 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Some quick rules before you join:

We are using the 1.1 edition of The Rebels Roleplaying Game. So make sure you check out the rules before trying to join!

Place out-of-character text in Cyan (like I am here)

This is seriously a world without the Force! Period. You can't pull any Yuuzhan Vong style tricks by "feeling the lack of feeling". It's all empty! Which means all abilities with "Force" as their first word don't work at all!

Additionally, all lightsaber attacks have a -10 action penalty (reflecting the difficulty of using the weapon without the assistance of the Force).

REVISION: All Force Sensitive characters have access to these additional skills:

Korus Zhett gazed around the desolate planet that he and his men found themselves on. Having barely escaped the Empire's blockade surrounding Mandalore, they had jumped blindly, setting in the first co-ordinates that came to mind, and they had, as luck would have it, brought them here.

He glanced thoughtfully at the ruins in the distance, and then back at their craft, with a wisp of black smoke casually emerging from the engine housing.

"If there's anything that can help us get off this rock, it'll be over there," He said, nodding at the ruins, "So let's go."
Rui Jormar

Rui Jormar had landed on Kallibann a few days ago. He getting used to not being able to use the force. It was hard for him, after so many years of being a Jedi, but he finally got the hang of it. He packed the essentials, leaving everything else in his ship, clipped his lightsaber and blaster to his belt and started walking towards the ruins.

Jesfith Morav pulled out of hyper-space to view the world of Kalliban fill up his view screen. He was about to set coordinates to land, when he noticed something. He couldn't feel it, he had never felt a hole in the force before. He didn't know how to react.

The council almost wouldn't let him go on this mission. He was primarily a teacher, and often aided with the archives. Some laughed that he couldn't even fight, but he never neglected his combat practice. He felt surprisingly ready to face whatever came his way when he left Bakura.

But most of his skills were based on the force. He didn't know much about Bakura, but not even the council could foresee this. Nonetheless, he had promised that he would investigate this matter for himself (although he was not the only one to do so by far) and he would not back down, he had to at least check it out.

He felt like he might stumble or trip at any moment after he landed on Kalliban. He didn't even know what was around the next corner. He tried to listen in on people's conversations, but it was more difficult without the aid of the force. Eventually, he decided that the only thing to do was to go to the silver spire that everyone was talking about.

He knew that using his lightsaber would be futile without the help of the force. He returned to his ship to get the blaster out of his emergency supplies. He had used a blaster before, but he would be at a disadvantage to anyone who was an expert at using one. He couldn't think on that though, maybe there was nothing to worry about.

He paid a man who claimed to have been on the planet for over a month now, but didn't want to get too close to the silver spire himself, to bring him close to the spire. He felt nervous, not being able to sense what he was thinking, not knowing if he intended to betray him. But he would not betray his emotions by showing them, he just sat in his seat and stared forwards.

They arrived after an uncomfortable ride, and Jesfith got out. It was a beautiful structure, but he couldn't know how dangerous it was. He decided to start walking towards it and see if he could find anyone more knowledgeable about it.
Lord Vexen

Shin Kai, an Noghri assasin in the employ of Darth Vader, had been contracted by the Sith Lord to go to the planet called Kalibann and find out whatever had caused the so called "Force Ripple". Shin himself found the force to be just a bunch of hocus pocus mumbo jumbo, and he preffered his trusted blasters anyday. Nonetheless, when Shin landed on the planet, he felt something being stripped from him, something he didn't understand. Shin however, just shrugged it off. As he disembarked from his ship, he noticed a plume of smoke in the area. He decided to start his search there, and began the trek through the forest.

An aging blue Rodian sat atop the large, flat hull of his YV-666 light freighter. He was surrounded with boxes ranging from large to small, old to new. All of them were subspace transmitters set to broadcast on a different frequency.

He pulled off the wide-brimmed tan he was wearing and placed it down on the hull. He replaced it by slipping a headset over his head, bending his antennae back with it. The headset was attached by a ridiculous number of wires to every single transmitter box. Nervously, he began to speak, "Ah, yes. Hello again ah... my good friends. This is Doctor Skod D. Nomah, coming to you once again live from KSR - Kallibann Subspace Radio. I'm once again asking for volunteers to be part of an... expedition - into the spire." He paused for a moment, "...I've been rather disappointed by the vote of confidence in my abilities thus far..."

A young woman's voice began shouting in the background, "One or two little disintegrations and you all hide with your tails between your legs! You make me sick! This is why we're all h---"

"Ah, yes. Thank you, Miss Delvron." Turning around briefly to glance at the blonde haired woman behind him - currently his only volunteer - "I once again wish to assure you all that I've spared no expense in my equipment and I'm quite confident I can disable the energy field surrounding the spire long enough to get us inside completely intact!"

The blonde haired woman groaned, knowing he'd once again fail to get anyone to join up if he kept this up, she took a few steps forward and snatched the headset from him, "Now listen up! You'd better believe there's something good inside something that weird and dangerous. And I'll also bet it's worth a lot more than any of the Imperial credits you turned your hard earned Republic credits over to the boys in white for."

"Well I'm sure there's more to be found in that tower than things of monetary val---" Skod added in with a condescending laugh.

Delvron cut him off again, "Did you hear that? Priiiiceless objects."

The Rodian muttered, "That's not at all what I mean--"

The girl was practically screaming now, "Come on down to see me, at the big brown freighter to the north of the spire. Can't miss it! Guaranteed riches to make the royalty of Alderaan sick with envy. You'd be a fool to pass this up! I guarantee it!"

The transmission - going across practically every subspace frequency still in use in the galaxy - went silent.

Jesfith Morav heard the announcement on a radio being used by someone nearby. It didn't inspire a lot of confidence, but he knew that getting close enough to the spire would be impossible without the help of the force. He still wasn't sure if he was doing the smartest thing or not, but he had to check it out.

He found a big brown freighter to the north of the spire. This was the place mentioned on the radio. He took a deep breath and walked up. "Hello!" he yelled, "I'm interested in getting inside the spire!"

Korus heard the radio broadcast over his comm unit, and glanced back and the soldiers trailing him.

"Looks like it's coming from those spires, we're heading towards them as it is," grumbled Jalor, "We're coming as fast as we can."

Korus grinned beneath his helmet. Jalor had always been less than enthusiastic about damn foolish crusades off into the middle of nowhere, but with a damaged craft they didn't really have any options.

As they got closer to the clearing, they begun to make out the overly animated figure of a blue Rodian, and a blonde haired woman leaning boredly against a tree.
Rui Jormar

As he neared the Spire, Rui started making out the form of a large ship and a few humanoids so he sped up his pace to go meet them, since he figured they were going inside the Spire, since there was nothing else arround that would make someone be so near it.
Rive Caedo

Skod leaned over the edge of the ship's hull to look down at shouting Morav, "Yes, yes. Excellent! Well just..."

The Rodian shuffled across the hull (stepping dangerously close to the edge) to the starboard side of the ship and shouted down to Armia Delvron, "Make yourself useful down there! I need to get this radio equipment put away!"

Delvron sighed and spoke softly to herself in a grudging tone, "What's the point? As if anyone's going to climb up there to steal a pile of obsolete subspace radios..."

She thrust back to push herself away from the tree she was leaning heavily against. In an instant, she changed her expression from one of disapproval to an overly excited - and completely fabricated - smile, "Hey there!" She playfully tousled her blonde ponytail to get the tree bark out of it, "Good to see someone..." She spotted another few people heading towards the ship, "... someones finally deciding to get something done here."
Jiub

Jesfith decided not to divulge more information than necessary for the moment. He was very vulnerable without his force powers, and not everyone liked Jedi. So, he just replied with a simple, "Good," and sat down on a nearby pile of junk.
Sirak Sazen

The bright blue sky of Kallibann was broken by the crisp, grey hull of Nevermore; a heavily-modified YT series freighter that formerly belonged to a space pirate. It was - according to the Imperial Navy - still classified as a criminal ship. Within it's cozy cockpit, Sirak Sazen relaxed as the ship gently glided down with the autopilot. He'd adopted a more carefree lifstyle since the Fall of the Jedi. The effects of Knightfall had taken a hidden toll on the Zabrak's mind. He'd come to Kallibann only to explore and learn from it. The stories of this world had traveled to the rough streets of the neighboring world Dantooine - Sazen's hideout.

Nevermore continued it's decent through the atmostphere. The ground was now in vision and an empty feeling slowly swept through Sirak's body. It felt like the life was being sucked from his pores. He felt lifeless and abandoned. The stories were true; there was no Force here. Even after Order 66 came down, the Force continued to act as a friend and a guiding light to the young Jedi. He was now truly alone.

Sirak tried to regain his composure as the ship dropped in altitude. He took a handle of the controls and guided the ship across the landscape at a steady height of 500 meters. The planet was stunning. Rolling hills of green were topped here and there by ruins of beautiful architecture. Beyond a nearby hill, Sirak could barely make out the image of a spire. Courious, he flew towards it.

((OOC: I'll post more soon.))
Lord Vexen

Shin had been in the city for a brief while and had heard the radio broadcast announcement. He decided he would check it out, and he noticed a strange site. A crazy looking Rodian, a Human female, and another shape he couldn't quite make out. Shin began walking to the area they were at, but had his blasters ready just in case.
