Iran, Korea, or China? So, I've been hearing from a lot of my Sergeants, as well as my Drill Sergeants when I was in BCT, that things are looking like we'll be going to war with one of these countries in the next year or two. Sounds better than the current plan where we get blown up by IEDs, and getting the chance to fight army vs army would be fun, but I'm not sure if we'll fight.
From the looks of things that I've researched, it seems that the US is just complaining about all these countries, and it would not be a good idea at all to try and fight all three. Our forces are a bit stretched, so it would be tough. My big question is, are we really going to go to war with them? It wouldn't be in our best interest right now, but our leaders seem so sure of it. Discuss.
p.s. Join the Army.

Well it's not really Korea, it's North Korea. Right now I would be more concerned with North Korea right now then the other two.

It will be with Korea and that will drag China in. Then well drag the Brits in and then WWIII. GG
Were trying to get like missile defense system in Europe or something. Then we can bomb any shack in the world. Just you wait

We won't go to war with China because we rely so musch on them for goods. Iran and North Korea (especially lately) sound like possibilities.
|
Lord Vexen

I say North Korea. They think they are so tough, but they are going to start something and then the US, China, Russia, and the rest of the UN Security Council will demolish them.

What happened last time?
Its k now though we have Arnold
and these guys to..

China would be the toughest fight out of the three. North Korea has 6-12 warheads, the US has over 3000... no competition. Though any war with either China or North Korea would bring the other in and that could in turn bring Russia in.

Lord Embeion

I say we just bomb everyone. Cuz dis is America. Right Sam?

This is america. We don't know the definition of tactics, strategy, or the phrase "5 steps too far".
EDIT: and Leon, Air Force > Army. You can have your rushing tactics. I'll keep my bombs.

I really doubt a war will start.
Besides, NORTH Korea is antagonistic toward everyone: especially South Korea, US, Japan, and China. Worst case scenario is US goes to war with North Korea, crushes them quickly, and then gives the property of an ILLEGAL ROGUE GOVERNMENT to South Korea, reuniting the state. And then Japan has nuclear weapons which we encouraged in order to compete with North Korea....
We won't go to war with China. They're too dependent on us for resources (as we are them). And, if we did, numbers don't matter very much in modern warfare (besides, we'd have much of Europe on our side).
Iran is an instigator like North Korea, not a world power. If we pull out of Iraq, they'd likely invade. Then we'd counterattack and seize the chance to crush the government.
This is all, of course, my own militaristic stance in hypothetical situations.
| Quote: | | the US has over 3000 |
IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!
Besides, though economically weakened, the US has the strongest military in the WORLD, and that's with less than 1% of the nation in service. Imagine mass-Soviet-Style conscription of 2%! Or Augarundus (nationstates....) 7%!!!!

It is naive to think we will go to war with China. North Korea would be crushed swiftly by the bordering nations(SK and Russia).

Thats what we thought last time and what happened with this war in Iraq.. we thought it would be over quickly. People over-estimate our power. We limit ourselves by being "the good guy".. Russia dun care they'll bomb hospitals if there's an enemy in it. We won't

We didn't go to war with the Iraqi government... well, I guess we did. But to radically destabilize the terrorists controlling the state, which we succeeded in doing. We continue to struggle over fighting terrorists who are not in control of the now democratic government.
Yes, the US holds itself to a higher standard than most other governments (arguable, with evidence of torture, but still better than most). But I'd rather ten of our men die in combat gloriously for their country than kill ten 'enemy' civilians in a hospital because it was strategically important. In war, however, perhaps such a difficult decision could be made if more lives were in the balance. But civilians always need to be protected, even moreso than soldiers (a soldier's objective in our government is to protect, not to kill), who volunteered to give their lives if need be.

So America invades countries (And the rest of the world follows) because they THINK they have WMDs but DON'T invade the country they KNOW has WMDs.
That makes complete sense... I guess...?

Lord Embeion

This is America boy! If you don't like then we'll bomb your country to..! and thats America. Boy
|
Journey

Ah, but we also have missiles, meaning that by my logic in the previous post, America won't attack us. Not WMDs (as far as I know), but weapons nonetheless.

This is true. However, I've spoken to numerous veterans who find nothing but horrors on the battlefield. They're glad they fought for their country, but acknowledge that it wasn't "fun."
|
Lord Embeion
|
Of course. War is war
Leon however is a 18? year old kid with alot of energy. Thus haven't learned all of his life lessons yet. I think he meant more that the thrill or adrenaline would be intense
Whats fun about metal objects wizzing by your head at practically the speed of sound? You can't be a soldier without having a little twist in your brain.
|
Lord Invictus
|
A soldier who enjoys slaughter has that twist. A man pressed into combat for his country because of necessity doesn't.
Today is June 6th, D-Day. Just letting you all know.
I highly doubt the veterans in that combat look back at their comrades and companions being dismembered, shot, and universally slaughtered as enjoyable. But, then again, there are always some sadistic maniacs who join the military to kill (in all armies. Perhaps the only military force exempt from this stereotype is Vatican's Swiss Guard) rather than protect.

Japan win. Their army is forbidden by NATO to attack.
I have been to Normandy, the Somme, Ypres and Flanders. I'm going to Auschwitz in October (another cheery holiday for me)

Russia hates everyone. I don't understand why we can't bring back the ole days and just go to war with Germany.
and Invictus you misinterpreted what I was saying. This isn't the 16th century were they " enjoy the slaughter". I'm saying that not everyone has what it takes to be a soldier. You have to have balls and big ones. You have to have guts x4 -1 +8. The inspiration for a " higher calling" doesn't last forever and when your laying there in mud and bugs you gotta have something to keep you going.

Because they aren't allies....North Korea is the new Germany.

No way. You can tell that Russia and China are still friendly with North Korea. There is no alliance, true, but they are close.

China got as pissed off at NK as Japan did when they launched the nukes.

Lovely comparisons.
But that's beside the point.
EVERYONE hates North Korea ATM. They are a serious threat to everyone around them and are ruled by an insane dictator who probably can't differentiate between friend and foe.

North Korea has pulled another silly!
A few days ago, two American journalists were apprehended by North Korean police on the China/NK border.
Supposedly NK is using them as bargaining chips to avoid UN punishment for their previous missile launches. 'Dem commies are fools, I tells ya'!

Um... I don't think that was just a few days ago...
And yes, they have hard labor, perhaps for life (I don't know).

Actually, it did just happen a few days ago. They've been sentenced to 12 years hard labor.

The President of South Korea is speaking ATM. He just keeps going "Were allied with the US.Were allied with the US.Were allied with the US." It's BS
We all know they were really talking about when to send in Delta Force.

I wonder if china and/or Russia would join N korea in a fight, esspecialy if N korea starts it by fireing some nukes, like some of you already said earlier, china is still to dependand on the western world.
after a huge discussion within the politics my country (the netherlands) would prolly join the americans into war, afterall we're still america's lapdog

Netherlands would undoubtedly join the US in a war. As would most of Western Europe, India, and perhaps areas of South America and Asia. I doubt China and Russia would ally with North Korea. At the moment, I believe that they're simply frightened of Kim Jong Il, who's absolutely insane.
