Now that the cover is up on The Official Site and Wookieepedia, and it's been confirmed it's Jaina fighting Jacen, I thought a Speculation thread was in order!
Ga'nen
I don't know, they never really emphasized Jaina killing Jacen in any way. Just that she's the sword of the jedi and she thinks she will be the one to fight him. But the writers haven't given any strong indication that she would be the one to kill him. It's probably more of a way to make us think it is Jaina, but some times I wonder about Ben... The most powerful enemy you can have is the one you created yourself. So that's my thoughts, I just think Jaina will fight him but someone else will land the kill.
Xander Vos
I'd be a bit dissapointed if someone else did. There's been the whole build-up about her being the Sword of the Jedi, and how she's the warrior of the Order, and to not use her to take out a person she would be the most connected to would be a bit odd...
Spoiler:
Caedus essentially killed her only remaining brother. I think there's a quote somewhere, about how neither of her brothers survived Myrkr.
Lord Vexen
Yeah I read that quote. It went something like "I lost a brother during the Yuuzhan Vong War. Not Anakin, Jacen."
But yeah, go Jacen
Xander Vos
Well, since none of the Big Three die this series, it's fairly obvious Jacen's gonna keel over.
Lord Vexen
Eventually he will.
Who is the Big 3? Luke, Ben, and... Luke can still die though since whats-his-face only sees Lukes ghost.
Xander Vos
Um, Luke, Han and Leia? The Big Three used to be the Big Four and include Chewie, but he got killed off...
He does still die, but not in this series.
Lord Vexen
They killed Chewie, whats to stop them from killing the rest? Although it took a moon to kill him...
Ga'nen
Oh you know Luke will go down in the most serious way ever. You can't just kill the grand master of the jedi order by simply a stab with a lightsaber. He'll go down in some rage of force power exploding in all directions that has the power to destroy an entire two fleets and four moons.

George Lucas? He's said none of them can die this series?

I missed that

That's kind of why I said in this thread that it had been announced none of them could die.
Ga'nen
Do you have the article where Georgy said that?
Xander Vos
Nope, but it's pretty common knowledge on TOS, so I'd assume Sue or someone mentioned it somewhere in the VIP thread.
Ga'nen
common knowledge isn't the same as george coming out and saying in an interview they aren't going to die. :-\
Xander Vos
I know, but when a publisher says that's what she's been told it's safe to assume it.
Though until I find the hard evidence, nothing is safe to assume.
I could see Han or Leia dying, not Luke.
Perhaps Jacen kills one of them, sending Jaina over the edge.
Ga'nen
Yeah, unless george says it himself, he could easily change his mind. Though he could easily change his mind even after an interview.
Xander Vos
Though I suspect Invincible has been written and is only going through edits before the final version is completed.
Ga'nen
Which means that George is just waiting to spring his large surprise on us, "Yuuzhan Vong Invasion Part Deux!"
Xander Vos
The fact that everything has to be passed by a man who doesn't seem to care a bit for the EU is so dissapointing, especially given the fact that it's an accepted fact he can't write dialogue for peanuts.
The guys who are actually keeping track of continuity, and may have a really great idea for a death for Luke can't use it, because GL may want Luke to be sucked into a black hole after Han farts on him.
Sephiroth
Maybe Jacen will get cocky like all Solo men and die on some big battle station. *Cough, Palpatine, Cough*

Major spoilers incoming:
Spoiler:
Ok, last book I was pumped that I'd picked Daala making a return, but now she's the frakking Chief of State? Too far. Tooooo far.
Jaina killing Jacen is probably the one time this series when the assumed ending was correct - though unpopular.
Fett and Mirta are banished from Mandalore because of a Fett-blood seeking nano-virus. But, of course, people like Venku wouldn't be harmed...
Jag becomes head of the Moff Council, so it's now glaringly obvious Jaina will be the Force seed of the line.
Danni Quee is rumored to make an appearence as Jag's girlfriend as mentioned in Exile, I think.
Isolder gets the chop from Jacen, and Jacen's last act is to warn Tenel Ka about a virus that was developed by Jacen as the reason why Isolder was killed. What?!
Confederacy peacefully resumes its part in the GA, though Niathal seems conspicuously absent. I suspect fish is on the menu for dinner tonight.
Allana begins working at the Jedi Academy under an assumed name.
Ben duels Tahiri, beats her, and spares her life.
Is it just me or is there an overwhelming presence of viruses in this book? And what's with Denning's pet hate of the Solo brats? He's killed off two of them now. I dunno, I thought this series would have a better end, and I was praying that the virus would actually have killed off all the Fetts, forever ending Traviss' blight on the EU... Sadly not to be.
