Lord Invictus

Interpretation of the Prophecy

"You were supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness!"

-Obi Wan Kenobi, Episode III, Mustafar

Always wondered, by "balance to the force" did they mean that the chosen one would destroy the dark side, or create peace between the dark and the light. Anakin destroys it, but for some reason a large number of people think that the dark and light must be at peace to truly fufill the prophecy.

What do you guys think?

Well nether can exist without the other. So as in Balance it means exactly that, a balance between the sides. Like on a scale you can say. By killing Palpatine it leveled the playing field so that the Jedi had a fighting chance to return without Vader and Sidious hanging them in the front yard. Problem with this prophecy is that the Dark Side had to triumph for it to come true. If Anakin had stayed in the Council room like Windu told him then he would have killed Sidious there.

But if Anakin hadn't folllow Windu then Windu wouldn't have been killed but instead Palpatine who wouldn't have been able to issue Order 66 therefore killing all the jedi (most) which would have brought balance to the force. To be honest I think anakin did succeed at bringing balance to an extent. The jedi were all but wiped out similar to how there were only two real sith (dark siders apparently didn't count) and there were only two jedi left (obi and yoda).

But to really think about the prophecy in terms of the real idea of balance is not only to be equal, but to be in harmony with one another. And I just don't ever think that will be possible for the sith and jedi, to live in harmony (real harmony) would almost be a contradiction to what the sith are and what the jedi fight for.

I think it's funny that when speaking of the prophecy, most people stay within the confines of the prequel trilogy. If look throughout the entire SW storyline told by Lucas you can see that Anakin brings balance to the force twice.

First, by falling to the dark side side and helping eradicate the Jedi to the brink of extinction, after years of the Jedi being the dominate force.

And second, after destroying Vader wthin himself and returning to the light side, he saves Luke from the Emperor, throwing him down into the second Death Star's reactor core, thus ending the dark side's reign and bringing balance once again.

You know what they say: "The Force works in mysterious ways." >.>

I believe to truly bring balance to the force, both sides most be destroyed. Because if all the Jedi were killed off like in Order 66 or the First Jedi Pruge there wouldn't be balance in the force because the force would mainly have dark side users. And vice versa. So to truly bring balance to the force both sides must be killed off.

however, i disagree with that. The force is its own well thing. It is an eenergy field created by all living things.it would be utterly impossible to get rid of one side or the other.(light or dark) On top of that the force was balanced without the presance of the dark side. The jedi saw the force in its true nature as balaced. The Dark sides presence corrupted and destroyed this natural balance and the view of the jedi was their duty to restore it.
