Wait... Is this after halo 3? Cause I thought the planet he was floating towards was way out there
Crozeus
Nah, it's a prequel.
Darth Samuel
Then what's up with the Halo 4?
Sirak Sazen
Overhyper Halo fanbois?
Crozeus
It's still the next Halo. Like CoD WaW everybody called CoD5, but it was set before CoD4.
Sirak Sazen
Wouldn't ODST be Halo 4?

I bet they sell it by saying you won't play as Master Chief.
What I think of this game.

Its called Reach...thats the name of the plannet invaded by the Covenant directly before Halo 1. The Pillar of Autumn made a random jump from Reach and discovered the Halo ring there. Also described in the novel Halo: Fall of Reach
The trailer looks like what the early portions of an invasion would look like.
On a random note...I feel like such a nerd for knowing that.
Lord Embeion
ODST is counted more as an exspansion for Halo 3. Since it's called "Halo 3: ODST". Reach will have the 3shot pistol and a prototype BR that was used in the book. I don't like the idea of Reach though. There overkilling and will destroy the series by flooding the market like this. But mostly because it throws the MLG scene up into the air and no one has any idea whats gonna happen.
lololol Watch REACH be a sequel to Halo Wars.
Sirak Sazen
Then wouldn't Halo Wars be Halo 4?
Lord Embeion
Halo Wars is an RTS, not a FPS. It is also a prequel to Halo 1:CE
Sirak Sazen
Reach is a prequel too, but Crozzy says it's still Halo 4. Fallout 3 was much different than Fallout or Fallout 2 - still Fallout 3. Meaning: Halo Wars is Halo 4 and Reach will be Halo 5.
Lord Embeion
its Fallout 3 because the creator named it that. Its Halo Wars because the creator named it that.
Sirak Sazen
It's Halo: Reach because the creator named it that.

Crozeus wrote:

Wow... Call of duty doesn't even have a set continuity. None of the characters are there again. Modern Warfare 2 is the first time one of the games will have a sequel.
Also, ODST is expansion, not a full-blown game. Halo Reach is a prequel.
Halo 4, following the precedent set by the first three games, namely, they follow one another, would show what happens to master chief.
Lord Embeion
exactly. Halo 1,2, and 3 revolve around Master Chief. So we'll see Halo 4 when someone decides to pick up his tin metal arse.
Darth Samuel
Which is why Halo 4 isn't a fitting title.
Sirak Sazen

No, you're from pennsylvania, which is almost as bad as ohio, but not quite.

I'm sorry, what was that South Dakota?

Least depressed state in the nation. And by the way, how did an Amish person learn how to use a computer? Go back to churning butter and quilting.
Sirak Sazen
I hope you enjoy that rocking chair. We made it.
Crozeus
The thread is only called Halo 4 to generate hype. But still, it's the next FPS after Halo 3, ODST is a campaign expansion. So it's the fourth new game.

Okay well, when this game comes out I'm going to avoid yelling in the middle of the hallway that it sucks. Last year when Halo 3 came out I did that and I almost got eaten alive by at least 40 people.

Wow, can't believe I missed this.
Looks fairly awesome, but I also agree, they're trying to keep it going far too much.
If they want to keep bringing out new stuff, they need to focus on getting a movie out there and ramp up the effort with books. Release the video games every three or four years so there's a noticeable jump in quality, and start expanding on the universe that is Halo.
Dakoth
Alert: Fanboy mode triggered.
They've got quite a few books out there now, they were trying to produce a movie, but it got put on hold indefinitely last time I checked, which is a bit of a shame judging from how ridiculously awesome the ODST live action trailer was. But its probably for the best. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dc7zGkW7g8 )
If I remember correctly, Halo: Reach is the last game bungie studios is liscensed to make. They sold halo rights to microsoft. I think its a great descision since the Master Chief story arc has been played out at this point. It lets us play one of the most memorable events in Halo history, and best of all, the elites are the enemies again. Wort Wort Wort bros. Wort Wort Wort.

Xander Vos
I know, I've read all the books that have been released - did not care for The Cole Protocol one bit, terrible piece of work - and I checked for the movie, but they really need to push it along. Nothing gains credibility until it's up on the big screen. Otherwise it'll just be that video game that had a few books about it.
Yeah it'll be awesome having all the Spartans still around.
I recall when I read Fall of Reach making a comment that a multiplayer map should cover one of the early battles in it - with a huge wave of Spartans going up against a huge wave of Elites - so maybe this will have something like that.
Dakoth
I didn't hate Cole Protocol, but it was definitely not the best.
I'm betting we'll see Spartan Firefight in Reach, it just fits with that massively outnumbered theme. Its been speculated that you might go through the Spartan training camp in the game, and bungie peeps have said things about it being able to work with Project Natal. I really hope they don't go in that direction though, just give me my controller, some aliens and a right trigger, if I want to hop around like an idiot i'll plug the wii in.
Xander Vos
Compared to the previous book, Contact Harvest, I thought there was a huge drop off in quality.
I'm glad they're sticking very close to each other's work though in terms of Continuity. Only problem with Halo, and it's the thing I've observed a number of times that makes SW so successful, is with the Halo franchise, they can't have an unlimited number of stories because they're limited in how far they can go back and how far they can go forward (not much they could do after Halo 3 you'd think).
Dakoth
I suppose thats whats happens when you burn pretty much everything but earth. Its a real shame too, because halo really does have a fascinating world behind it, far more so than the games can do justice to.
Xander Vos
The way it should be done:
Three Movies:
Halo
Halo 2: Return
Halo 3: Defence of Earth
Halo would cover the events of the Spartan project, the Fall of Reach, and the Halo mission.
Halo 2: Return would cover the events of the book First Strike, John's return to Earth, and the events of Halo 2.
Halo 3: Defence of Earth would cover Halo 3, because I think the plot of the 3rd can maintain a movie, or if they release more books surrounding it they could do that too.
Three movies would take about 10-12 years to come out, and in that time they could just keep releasing books - at the moment they have SW author Greg Keyes writing a series based around the Forerunner, so they have plenty of 'time' to cover in between and more books based around the movies (we have no novelisations of Halo 2 or 3 despite The Flood being a great book).
After the movies are done, THEN they return to considering more video games.
Dakoth
So you don't want to see a Halo game for a decade? Microsoft needs to move xboxes some how >.>
Xander Vos
I'm just saying they can't cram the market like they have. Having had Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach within about 8 years, is almost a game a year.
Dakoth
Well lets be fair, the wait between halo 1 and 2 was enormous. As was the jump from halo 2 to halo 3. (2001-Nov 9 2004) (Nov 9 2004-Sept 25 2007) Thats 3 years a pop. Then we come to 2009, which is the odd year. This year we got halo wars and halo: ODST. Neither of these can be said to be true "Halos" Halo Wars was made by an entirely different company, and was of an entirely different genre. Halo: ODST was an expansion for Halo 3, using the same engine more akin to Starcraft: Brood War than Starcraft II. Halo Reach is scheduled for Fall 2010, so thats another 3 year gap between what I consider "Legitimate" Halos released. Thats a pretty good cyle to me, provided 2009 just happened to be an oddball year.
Xander Vos
Which would still mean they should leave it for another three years at least before the next game.
Dakoth
Except in my blatent fanboyism I don't accept Halo ODST and Halo Wars as true games. I demand more! I dare them to just try and sate my halo appetite! Try I say! Try as you might!
Xander Vos
Oh if only I had Xbox Live and my 360 working, I haven't done anything Halo-related since I dusted off Halo 2 and tried it again a few months ago.
Dakoth
Remember whatever you do, don't try that quick and easy trick i told you not to do. That would be wrong!
Xander Vos
What quick and easy trick was that?
Dakoth
Dakoth wrote:
I'll tell you what you shouldn't do. You shouldn't buy a new 360, open up the box, and switch the new 360 with your broken 360. You then definitely shouldn't take the box with your broken 360 back to the store to return it, so that you get a new 360 for free. No you shouldn't do that, that would be unethical.
But you'd never do that.
Xander Vos
I don't have proof of purchase. Plus the store won't refund me as I bought it about three years ago.

Buy a new one, and return the broken one in the new box... Simples!

This thread is about Halo Reach. Those cutscenes are from Halo Wars.

Argh I know I know, I couldn't find the Halo Wars thread.
Lord Embeion
No this thread isn't about Reach its about Halo 4... Reach is a prequel.duh

Doubt there'll ever be a Halo 4 as in a sequel.
Lord Embeion
Bungie has made it clear that Halo Reach will be the final Halo game that they make. I'm not sure if Microsoft has any rights with the franchise still
Xander Vos
Yeah didn't think they'd do it. They should turn the focus to movies and books now, since the books seem quite popular.

Bungie's last Halo game is Reach. Which is probably gonna be based off of the novel.
Lord Embeion
Indeed it will be based off the novel!!!!
and hopefully Bungie listens to both the Casual and Competitive communities. But honestly all they need to do to please the competitive community is add MASS AMOUNTS OF CUSTOMIZATION

True, but honestly Scion, Halo is all they got. All their creativity is poured into Master Chief. There too scared to try anything else, theyre playing it safe.
Dork of Mordork
Erm, Master Chief isn't even mentioned in Halo 3: ODST, so you're wrong there.
It's a matter of personal opinion, really. I love Halo, but I'm an Xbox gamer (for the most part.)
Solid Snake and all his lackeys really just annoy me, and I could care less honestly - but I'd LOVE to play Uncharted 1 and 2.
Games are games, just cause I like one game doesn't mean you should. And there's no point in me trying to try to convince you to even give it a try, because you're stuck in your ways, and I'm stuck in mine.
Anakin
Surprisingly I actually own Halo 3, maybe I'm just missing whats so great about it? Uncharted 2 is pretty good btw.
Lord Embeion
Back in the olden days dey had the Marathon! Bungie helped define what a shooter is in those days of preconsole. If Bungie tried they could easily make another hit game (with effort)
People want to see Master Chief though. It's not Halo without Master Chief to people. I know I've grown up playing this series.. and it isn't Halo without the Chief to me also. Although I did enjoy ODST very much. If I remember from what Dakoth said about Reach we should be seeing all the same characters and one hell of a flash bang for an ending.
The only reason Marathon had any attention (Besides being pretty good) was because it was a Mac game, and Macs don't play games.
Dork of Mordork
Halo 3 was fun, but it didn't have as good of a story compared to 1 and 2 in my opinion.
I actually preferred ODST over the others - mainly because it had a fresh, new feel. It was something new, and playing as just an everyday guy was a nice change.
But hey, I have nothing wrong with the Chief. He's one of my very favorite video game characters.
I liked how Bungie took the Gordon Freeman approach with the Rookie, as in he never says a word during the entire game.
Lord Embeion
His mask also never comes off. They said they wanted " you to feel more in touch with the Rookie"
Halo 1 was the only good part of the story. Halo 2 got messed up, there was supposed to be more missions and different ending. But they got messed up by release dates and Microsoft
Dork of Mordork
I actually really liked Halo 2's story.
Also, Halo 2 was the first one I ever played, so it's pretty nostalgic for me.
Crozeus
BXR, BXB, Dub shots, quad shots... best things about Halo 2
