Forced Listening

The object is simple:

1. I start off the thread by posting a song (This song can be anything you want, of any genre of music. Post the song name, artist, and a link)

2. The person who posts after me listens to the song I posted and give a rating (1-10, 1 being ear-drilling horrible and 10 being super awesome fantastic!) and a sentence or two of why they gave that rating

3. That person then posts a song of their choice, and the cycle goes on...

Additional Rules:

Please listen to the song in its entirety and give at least a half decent reason for the rating you gave. And don't give every song a 1 and support it by saying "that type of music sucks". (Yes, I will listen to a rap song if I must Wink  )

If the song you're posting contains explicit inappropriate content of any kind, please put a warning down.

I will start...

Biaxident by Liquid Tension Experiment
Sirak Sazen

I give that garbage a 2. Do you enjoy hurting my ears? Nothing musical about it. Some piano, some guitar. Whoopdy-poodoo! We got a song!

You want some real music? Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance Pure and simple art.

Wow. Obviously you don't know what real music is, seeing as that you gave an improvised song by a couple of geniouses a 2, and then posted My Chemical Romance(quite the poodooish band IMO) calling it 'art'.  Rolling Eyes

But this is forced listening so...

I give it a 4. The lyrics are cliched and the pathetic excuse for guitar playing killed me inside.

Tumeni Notes by Steve Morse
Darth Fectum

I'll give a five because it was intricate but barely keep my attention.

Now I'm gonna give you a blast from the past. IF IT WASN"T FOR THE NIGHTS by ABBA.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dihWJsLsO0c
Cimil

God please keep that back in the crypt. I'll be generous and give it a two because it might have been better back in the day. And I had to actualy look the song up.

Now here's a song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP7wHOHYCdc

Hybrid moments by the Misfits
Lord Embeion

8 because it was to short. Anyway I don't really have anything bad to say about it except that...oh and some of it was a bit hard to hear. Nothing that a volume adjustment couldn't fix though. Ya anyway1:40 is way to short. The feel of the song is really good and fun, I could party to it.

So ya I took 2points off for its length because as soon as you start jamming its over.

Bohemian Rhapsody! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irp8CNj9qBI
If you give this less then an 8 then you know nothing of the old days and deserve to be forcefully made to listen to hours of classic music.

BTW P.S. when grading songs PLEASE OH PLEASE step outside your views and try to understand why people like the song. Otherwise its just not fair to grade it on one view.. dun be stupid plox

I don't even need to listen to that song (but I did). A perfect 10. Expertly written. Queen never disappoints. Freddie Mercury FTW. Starts soft. Backing vocals are amazing. Guitar kicks in around 2:40. It's beautiful. It's a rock opera that kicks your butt. 4:08 more amazing guitar. Perfect. My top ten favorite songs of all time.

More Queen. Under Pressure by David Bowie and Queen. Beautiful song.
Darth Samuel

8. Good song, but meh. I like Bowie and Queen seperate.

Little Wing by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Anything less than a 15 means you're musically retarded.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdYRzH10L2M
Darth Splinter

This is a scale from one to ten, and this is a definite ten out of ten! Everything Stevie Ray Vaughan did was just exceptional.

The Extremist - Joe Satriani
Darth Samuel

10. Joe is simply amazing.

The song that inspired my gamertag:

voodoo child by Jimi Hendrix

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtlvPXeUblI [/list]
Lord Invictus

4. It's by Jimi Hendrix, so I guess it's not garbage, and simple is good, but the electric guitar was distasteful and it sounded like pixelated video-game music.

Eleanor Rigbuy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxyJLxV0_-8
The Beatles

A classic, so please seriously rate this.
Darth Samuel

It was a loq quality version, my bad.

Eleanor Rigby is a 7. It's good, but not utterly amazing.

Better quality version(it's live from woodstock and is technically different. Wink )

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2999417569188182518

Yay for being high on acid while playing in front of a 100,000 people. Razz
Lord Embeion

Guitar genius 8

Possibly the best love song ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbzkwLWK-Ps&feature=channel_page
Cimil

I give it a ten, for two reasons. 1. Whats better than Hendrix? I mean, really. And 2 he's one of the only good things to come from my state. Here's and odd one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJspcQPy6kc
Lord Invictus

Funny, I guess. Jack Black= funny. Strange. 7.

Ivan Petrovich Larionov, genre: Russian folk music, album: none
Instrumental: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY7bgtEZ6Mc
Opera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtfXwiS-nA8

Despite some Communist idiots posting it with Soviet symbols, this is not a Soviet song. It's pre-Soviet folk music, though the opera is sung by the Red Army choir (don't be hatin' man, it's a great opera.... London, Berlin, and Cleveland are noted for having the best orchestras in the world though Very Happy )
Lord Embeion

Why did Cimil take 7 minutes to make that post? lulul
Darth Samuel

cause the clip i posted was 11 minutes long.
Darth Fectum

Invictus, I give that a 7 simply because it was captivating to a degree.

One more ABBA song to make Cimil's ears bleed.Lay All Your Love On Me , a sexy song by ABBA.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCiNhsqOTDo
Darth Splinter

I give it a 2. Sorry, but I've heard it before, and I just don't like swedish pop groups, or whatever they are.

No Quater by Led Zeppelin
Darth Samuel

10. Led Zeppelin is jsut amazing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWkd62hwocE

Dimension by Wolfmother
Lord Invictus

4 for it being moderately good, but sort of ordinary.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JImcvtJzIK8
WHY IS THE RUM GONE?!
By: some idiot with video editing functions.
Darth Samuel

5, simply cause it was a good movie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2AsDvFYrpM

Amadeus Rock by Soem French guitarist. He's pretty good
Darth Fectum

I'll give a six because the guitarist was great but there weren't any words and the video was far from dazzling.

You know my name by Chris Cornnel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyKne8fESUc&feature=related

happy new year

7 due to the fact it is good, but it is Bond music.

Darth Samuel

Fectum, You do realize it was a mozart piece he was playing... One that didn't have words int he first place. >.<
Darth Fectum

DUH!!!! I realized that , and I've heard it with a chorus speaking a foreign language.

I'd give it about a 7 or an 8, but I am a sucker for voices in epic orchestras.

http://www.ilike.com/artist/Rush/track/YYZ

YYZ by Rush

Ignore the funny animations and just listen (Instrumental)
Darth Samuel

10. Rush is amazing.

Get the Funk Out by Extreme

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILwYfJ8hulI

8 due to the hilarious title and okay music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8tnhyyBnXQ
(the youtube description has all info)
Sephiroth

I'm giving it a 7. I love instrumental music like that, but some parts of it seemed to....off to me. I liked the low, dark parts.

Savages by Disney, the video has a message too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCqRL0fpUL0
Darth Fectum

I'll give a five because I'm a sucker for musicals but it was just plain terrible.

Touch a Touch a Touch a Touch Me by Susan Serandon in the Rockiy Horror Picture Show.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOAQNRJGwr4&feature=related
Lord Invictus

I give the song a 7, Leon. Excellent matching to the scenery in the clip and everything, but it IS the Disney song Wink Good though, and from the times of good Disney.

Onward with my Dracula music!

Baba O'Riley by The Who
Sephiroth

8 as I love the guitar in the song. Also, the song is catchy, and you want to sing to it.

Who Is It by Michael Jackson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPZ_Ssop2Jg
Darth Thilus

7

It it undistict and is easily lost in the whim of his other songs. There's no way I'll remember the beat or the lyrics of this song, but it's professionally performed and I enjoy Michael Jackson. Not one of his best, but still art.

Phil Collins - Thru My Eyes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMPZjKvo1yg

Phil Collins, now that's a man I'd easily go gay for.  Razz
Xander Vos

8 It's nice, catchy, and feel good.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=gY3FZaCGbU4&feature=related

King's Horses by JET, used in someone's video for Hurley from Lost so I thought I'd use that instead.
Darth Fectum

I'll give it a seven because it wasn't catchy but I love Lost.

100 years by Five for Fighting

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=NmoE8_U-JTw
Xander Vos

Shocked NOT CATCHY?!
Darth Thilus

Post a song, please.
Darth Fectum

I did LOOK UP!!!!!!!
Darth Thilus

(Originally I wrote 'post a song' here.)

Alkto Shekl was here.
Xander Vos

9 I love Five for Fighting, because of Superman, but this song is just as good.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=5ClTbW74dZM

Never Let You Go - Evermore

My favourite band so you'd better like it. Wink
Darth Fectum

10, the video was powerful, and the music matched!

Space Oddity by the never know his gender David Bowie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhSYbRiYwTY

I probably wont get a good score for this one.
Xander Vos

Woo! Razz

Link?
Darth Thilus

Original lyrics, and a pleasant melody, but somewhat lacking instrumental multitude... Just a guitar, E-keyboard and drums, basically. But I dig it, so even though I'd've given it less score for few instruments, making it sound a bit thin, I'll ignore that, since I enjoyed it.

8

Now, for a song you've surely heard multipludleqouple times before, a song most of us have come to dread, but some of us love to hate it...

"The Saga Begins" with Weird Al Yankovic!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-gi4Nt_xxg
Xander Vos

9 I still love it, and it's amazing how he manipulates the lyrics as he does.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=EWaHdIIMRqc

This Heart Attack - Faker

Aussie band but very catchy song.
Darth Thilus

7

+ Original lyrics with some real meaning and some heart put into it
+ The singer had a pleasant voice
-  The melody was very repetative and didn't offer much more in the refrain, as a song should according to me.

Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ftlYLcEW_I4
Darth Fectum

9, it has a great  harmonic quality.Plus Phil Collins is the Bomb.

Now give this a chance, It's called A Baby Changes Everything by Faith Hill, it sounds nothing like country music, it sounds kind of like pop.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=3AJI3QXwg-M
Darth Thilus

A simple 9. Cuz it rawks.  Laughing

Now behold, the longest song ever about nothing at all!

"Trapped in the Drive-Thru"

7. Good song.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc50ONFU3jQ

Mr Brightside - The Killers
Jaden Nightsaber

8.5 Catchy melody and fun poppy sound.  I like the Killers.

Underoath - Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear
Sephiroth

I give that a 10. It was just......wow. A really good rock song that has emotions just pouring off of it.

Falling Inside The Black by Skillet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RztScu_6bzU
Scion

I'd say about a 6

Good Lyrics, Average solo, felt very repetitive for some reason.

Duran Duran - Save A Prayer

7. Duran Duran is okay in my book.

Sympathy for the Devil(Click on the little play button):

1 because no matter what I did it wouldn't play and it's probably some stupid rock song anyway.

6 Not bad for Jr. High Students.

Queen - The Show Must Go On
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ADh8Fs3YdU

9. Terrific Song, I'm not the biggest Queen fan but 'The Show Must Go On' is awesome.

MGMT - Time to Pretend

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XVnRzEjpUmE
Crozeus

7. I prefer Kids.

Apocalyptica - Path

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OGnAzkh9kn0
Journey

Apocalyptica are pure brilliance, no doubt, I prefer some of the other stuff though.

8.5 out of 10

Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PpD8FpGpBjE
Dork of Mordork

6-7 out of 10.

Not too bad, I had to try the live version, and it was pretty good. Just not exactly my style I suppose.

As I Lay Dying - Within Destruction

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwbTi9ip-_Y
Lord Invictus

1. Hate Heavy Metal

Final Push, Call of Duty 5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGzAidK8WOQ
Dork of Mordork

It's not heavy metal.

4/10 Not too bad I suppose.

He Is Legend - Attack of the Dungeon Witch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqSJhB-BsD0
Adenn

6. The guitar was pretty nice, but I didn't really like the vocals. Not the worst singer, but really doesn't sound awesome with his vocals.

AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bomv-6CJSfM
Dork of Mordork

I guess you just gotta like the style. Razz

4/10 I really don't like AC/DC

Rise Against - Re-Education (Through Labor)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHv_1Jct9NA
Journey

I was prepared for that to blow chunks (Especially after you said you didn't like AC/DC... Blasphemy!!), but I was pleasantly surprised. I've heard an awful lot worse in that genre of music.

7.5 out of 10

OK! Lets start a war!

Electric Six - Gay Bar

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q54LJ5RsqRw&feature=related

The reason why it is the uncensored version is so that they can say... War...

Warning! Do not watch if you are adverse to gayness!
Crozeus

lolol 7.5 still a great song.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pzpGk44UXKQ&feature=channel_page

10/10 Muse at Wembley FTW!! (Very rarely do I use such language, but rarely is it so apt... FTW indeed)

Black Kids - I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=n_2hdU14Lqk
Darth Thilus

Egh, it won't open for me...

But to get things going again.

8/10 because it's funny.

Hehe, I'll give it an 8. Very Happy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwb3M7WACPs
Rive Caedo

Ah... 7.5?
I'd give it a 7, but I'll boost it a bit for the always amusing irony of heavily commercialized and over the top things trying to make a statement about... how heavily commercialized things are.

Prelude to War (Bear McCreary):
Historical Imagery Version
Modern Imagery Version

Watch whichever tickles your fancy. The modern one is done a bit better in my opinion, but uses a slightly shorter version of the song.
Xander Vos

I think that's the point they're making though Rive. Their new album is out Friday and there haven't been any advertisments for it. Their two singles have received barely any radio play despite being a quite mainstream band. Their first single's video clip (not sure about this one) was sung live, not lip-synched. Wink

I loved it. I always enjoy classical music done right. 10/10!

Since Rive put me in the mood:
One Winged Angel by The Black Mages.
My favorite song to mix rock and classical music so awesomely. Plus, TBM are just awesome. XD
Adenn

9/10 man!

We were supposed to play that for Orchestra, but my director thought it was too hard. ):<

It also makes me frakking paranoid, if I listened to that in the shower I will cry.

Let There Be Rock - AC/DC
Xander Vos

9/10 love AC/DC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ClTbW74dZM&feature=channel_page
Talen D'aar

Pretty good. Thought provoking and inspiring. 8/10!

I'll knock out two birds with one stone:
Prequel to the Sequel by Between the Buried and Me
This is my favorite band. Now you can hear awesome music while someone gets 100% playing it on RB2 on Expert.

EDIT: I realized that many of you might not want to watch the song being played on Rock Band. So:
Prequel to the Sequel (Live) Them performing the song live. I chose this video to show everyone that watches it how fluidly they transfer from one song to another when they perform live. So the first thirty seconds or so is the ending to another song.

Prequel to the Sequel For all you people that hate listening to music from live performances.
Butler_Swan

Meh, 6/10. Not bad, but I'm not that into screamo types, but I did like the beat sorta lol.

Hymne Des Fraternises Very sad sounding, but pretty song. Makes me cry sometimes
Darth Splinter

Too mellow for my tastes. Still, I'll give it a 6.

I'm sure on what genre you could classify this next song with. It's from the video game Splinter Cell: Chaos Theroy.

El Cargo by Amon Tobin

I think it's catchy. (Ignore the video. It's just scenes form the game)

6/10. Eh, it didn't grab me this time. I don't know what it was.

I just found out about these guys about half an hour ago:
Great White Whale by Secret and Whisper.
I'm starting to fall in love with their music.
Xander Vos

The debut single of a great, great Aussie band.
Talen D'aar

*BUMP*

I really love this song.
Hide And Seek by Imogen Heap.
I'm attracted to beautiful voices and mellow songs, so this is perfect for me.
SkywalkerAndVader

*bump again*

5/10
I didn't hate it but I didn't like it either. She has a very nice voice, but it seemed almost repetitive at times.

A bit long but... Sheep by Pink Floyd
