Just finished watching Firefly, (have yet to see Serenity, I'll buy it tomorrow) and all I have to say is that was one of the most excellent shows ever made. Pretty Shiny

Indeed, a great show canceled before its time, sucks no one picked it up; Sci-Fi channel would have been perfect. The movie is awesome, if you enjoyed the show, then you'll love the movie!

I really can't say enough good things about Firefly. Even my least favorite Firefly episodes are better than some of my favorite episodes of other shows I watch these days (maybe not Battlestar, but certainly Heroes or Terminator).
The movie is also excellent. It's not quite as Westerny as Firefly - but its a solid continuation. And, unfortunately, probably conclusion
I'd recommend reading it AFTER seeing Serenity (the movie), but here's a link before I forget - free 13 page online Serenity comic. They just put it up a week or so ago. It's nothing special really, but what can you do with 13 pages?
Joss Whedon (Firefly's creator) is also going to do an online comic about Shepard Book's past soon, which I'm looking forward to.

I loved Firefly, but for a reason I can't place, I didn't care much for Serenity. I don't remember some episodes (netflix ftw!) but I think I liked the one where the assassin boards their ship and takes that one chick hostage...I really need to netflix it.

I know a few people who didn't care for Serenity even though they loved Firefly. It's a minority - but I understand them. The reason most of them define it as is Firefly was more fun than Serenity. Serenity has a lot of lighthearted moments and classic Firefly humor, but its tone is much darker and action-based overall.
The episode you're referring to is "Objects in Space" - which is, ironically, probably the darkest episode. So I'm surprised you didn't like Serenity. Although it too has its lighter moments ("My sister is a ship. We had a complicated childhood.")

Objects in space was great, that bounty hunter ws hilarious.

I was rather fond of
Simon: "Are you Alliance?"
Jubal (bounty hunter): "Am I a lion?"
Simon: "What?"
Jubal: "I don't think of myself as a lion. You might as well though, I do have a mighty roar. Haha."
Simon: "... I said Alliance"
Jubal: "Oh? I thought... that's weird."

Finally found a copy of Serenity and unfortunately it wasn't the 3 disc collector's edition. but I am watching it tonight anyways.

Oman. Just watched the movie today. That was awesometastic.
My favorite quote of the movie went something like this:
Spoiler:
Assassian: "I just wanna talk this out, I'm unarmed"
Mal: "Good." *shoots him*
Rive Caedo
One of my favorite lines is in that scene too.
Spoiler:
Operative: I have a warship in orbit, Captain. We locked on to Serenity's pulse-beacon the moment you hit atmo. I can send a missile to that exact location.
Mal: You do that, you best make peace with your dear and fluffy lord.
*tosses him the pulse beacon*
Ooo, and I also liked "Yes, I've read a poem. Try not to faint."
Ooo, and "Dear Buddah, please send me a pony and plastic rocket and..."
Ooo and... Gah, I like Serenity too much. Every moment is gold.

I watched it and picked up the first issue of Those Left Behind, both of them excellent.
