Fear leads to anger...

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you." - Yoda

This line was spoken in The Phantom Menace, Yoda teaching young Anakin one of his first lessons.  After recently watching the Prequels, I started to trace this path of fear.  Here is what I came up with.

Fear:  Anakin was afraid to lose his mother in Episode I and II.  He fears he will lose Padme as well.

Anger:  Anakin is angry about the Sandpeople's treatment of his mother (we all know what happened there).  Anakin becomes angry at the Jedi for "holding him back."  He is angry that Padme will not follow him to the dark side.

Hate:  Interesting note here, just after Obi-Wan dismembers Anakin and he is laying on the side of the hill he yells, "I HATE YOU!!"

Suffering:  Just after Anakin yells that line he slides downward a bit and ignites.  Now I can't say but I'd think that being lit on fire would be under a "Suffering" category.

Very interesting points, I myself have done this with the new films. Ani is a perfect case of what Yoda says to Luke in the OT and to a younger Anakin in TPM.

Related, I've always sort of liked that Maul line in one of the teasers for Episode I.

"Fear. Fear attracts the fearful… the strong… the weak… the innocent… the corrupt. Fear. Fear is my ally."

Anyway, I am sort of interested in what people viewing the saga for the first time 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 will think when they reach Empire Strikes Back.

You sort of get a bad vibe and aren't sure how to feel about Yoda. If you've already seen Episodes 1, 2, and 3 though - I don't think you're going to get that feeling of unease.

Another interesting (hilarious) use of Yoda saying "You will be" is here:

Padme: "I'm not afraid to die."

Yoda: "You will be. You WILL BE!"

I'm posting this in the links too.

That is probably my favorite line from the series, unfortunately he never used it in the movies. Another unfortunate thing is I always saw him portray as a bigger figure in the series.

That was an interesting watch.  Interesting thread in general actually.

When Anakin learned of Padme's death that could be suffering.

Every Jedi that has fallen follows this path. If they didn't then they wouldn't truly ascend to the Sith. Yes I said ascend
