Fate of the Jedi: Outcast

The Legacy era will be expanded by the upcoming nine book series Fate of the Jedi. This is going to tie up a lot of loose ends left by the Legacy of the Force series. I really have high hopes for these books. A brief summary of the series was released.

Quote:
THE FUTURE AWAITS...

'It has been two years since the death of Darth Caedus. Chief of State Natasi Daala has ushered the Galactic Alliance into a time of unprecented calm, and now the entire galaxy stands poised to freely embrace the same enduring peace that Jacen Solo once sought to impose as a Sith Lord.'

In this new era, Luke Skywalker finds himself battling control of the very order he founded. After Jacen's fall to the dark side, much of the galaxy sees Jedi Knights as rogue soldiers too dangerous and unstable to leave unfettered. It is a view shared by Chief Daala, who has sworn to bring the order under government control--or disband it entirely.

But the greatest threat to the Jedi remains unseen, a faceless menace even more lethal and insidious than the Sith who have plagued the Jedi for millennia. Awakened by Jacen Solo during his five-year odyseey, this hidden peril is reaching out from the darkest corner of the galaxy, assaulting Jedi Knights in ways that even Luke has yet to perceive--but which he must quickly thwart if he is to have any hope of redeeming the New Jedi Order.

As you can see, the Jedi Order is falling apart; crumbling under political unrest and this "faceless menace". It reaks of Darth Krayt, but what do you think?

The first book of the series will be Outcast. It will be written by Aaron Allston, author of Betrayal, Exile, and Fury. The hardcover is set for release on March 24, 2009, so you'll have plenty of time to save up your money. A summary was also released for this book.

Quote:
After violent civil war, and the devastation wrought by the now-fallen Darth Caedus, the Galactic Alliance is in crisis -- and in need. From all corners, politicians, power brokers, and military leaders converge on Coruscant for a crucial summit to restore order, negotiate differences, and determine the future of their unified worlds. But even more critical, and far more uncertain, is the future of the Jedi.

In a shocking move, Chief of State Natasi Daala orders the arrest of Luke Skywalker for failing to prevent Jacen Solo's turn to the dark side and subsequent reign of terror as a Sith Lord. But it's only the first blow in an anti-Jedi backlash fueled by a hostile government and suspicious public. When Jedi Knight Valin Horn, scion of a politically influential family, suffers a mysterious psychotic break and becomes a dangerous fugitive, the Jedi become the target of a media-driven witch-hunt. Facing conviction on the charges, Luke has only one choice. He must strike a bargain with the calculating Daala: his freedom in exchange for his exile -- from Coruscant and from the Jedi Order.

Now, though forbidden to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is determined to keep grim history from being repeated. With his son, Ben, at his side, Luke sets out to unravel the shocking truth behind Jacen Solo's corruption and downfall. But the secrets he uncovers among the enigmatic Force mystics of the distant world Dorin may bring his quest -- and life as he knows it -- to a sudden end. And all the while, another Jedi Knight, consumed by the same madness as Valin Horn, is headed for Coruscant on a fearsome mission that could doom the Jedi Order . . . and devastate the entire galaxy.

Makes you wonder who this other Jedi Knight is. Ben Solo, perhaps? It's also great to uncover the details of Jacen's fall. And Luke Skywalker....in exile!? Something to look forward to next year.
Darth Samuel

Darth Krayt can't be shown to any Jedi. The Legacy comic series has them appearing at 127 ABY, with no knowledge of them being there beforehand in the galaxy.

"...A faceless menace."  Wink
Lord Vexen

My guess is the True Sith from the KOTOR era.

I have a feeling they'll eventually be killed off when TOR FAILS!! Seriously, I hate it so far. Actually to the point where I'm considering re-writing the history of the galaxy from KOTOR to ROTS.

TOR won't fail. Have faith.
Scion

TOR will fail.

So the first paragraph says Daala has ushered in a new era of calm and peace and proceeds to say the Galaxy is in a period of turmoil with Jedi going rogue? Bah, that's essentially the same opening that Legacy had and look how that turned out.

For once can't there just be kriffing peace for more than a few years, with a few books dealing with just small crises that afflict an over all largely peaceful era? Like in the Old Republic?
Obi-Tyler

hm, My step-dad will be looking forward to these books. also, wtf is TOR?
Xander Vos

The Old Republic? Dunno any other acronyms with those letters.
Obi-Tyler

oh lol right, I deduced that like 2 hours ago and I already forgot. lmao
Talen D'aar

This looks stupid... Blaming Luke for not preventing Jacen's fall? Oh yeah, because it's so easy.

Jacen: I'm falling to the dark side. I plan on calling myself Darth Caedus and bringing war to the galaxy again so I can usher in an era of peace under my iron fist.

*slight pause*

Luke: Really?....Should I um...do something?

Seriously? Come on..

And no, the other Jedi Knight isn't Ben. They already told you Ben was going with Luke in the novel's summary so he'd be off on Dorin with him as this other guy's going to Coruscant.

I'm guessing the mission this guy's going on is to assassinate Chief Daala.
Xander Vos

Urgh, enough with the assassinating the Chief of State.  Rolling Eyes
Darth Samuel

What I think Luke and Ben will do is go to every force society that JAcen went to between 30 and 35 ABY in an attempt to find out what led to his fall, and then find some force sect that has never been mentioned but radically changes everything only it doesn't drastically do anything to mess up the legacy comics.

Translation: The series will probably suck.
Xander Vos

They need to say, ok, we've had huge Galactic conflicts in the space of a hundred years. Let's leave it peaceful up until the comics (at least Rolling Eyes) and go with rebuilding and adventure stories, rather than jam-packed action.

Not likely...after all you aren't writing it...though you would do better than
Karen Traviss.
Sirak Sazen

I think Xander should write it. Very Happy  I mean come on, who hasn't read Destiny Eclipse?
Ga'nen

Guys, this is star wars. Wink

It could be the sith on Korriban, it did say that Krayt was around for a while (I don't remember when the comics say the sith introduced themselves) but he went into a hibernation to keep himself alive long enough to defeat the Jedi. I think this book could rekindle my interest in star wars because after the failure of Invincible, I am hoping for something to get me back into the mix.

Plus the book didn't say there was a huge war, it just made it seem like there were threats to the stability of the already fragile galaxy.
Darth Samuel

Nevermind. Jag and Jaina marry, they start the new empire thing that's in legacy, and Zekk becomes the first Imperial Knight.

Or better yet, why not just have them blow up the universe and make the Legacy comics completely irrelevant. >.>

It'd go a little something like this: The Jedi and Sith start fighting. (Wow, so fresh!) They war for about three months, then at a huge battle right in front of a black hole, (hey it's Star Wars, I'm sure they'll figure something out), they use so much Force power at once, it caves in on itself and the universe implodes. The End. There. There's the next line of books.
