Embassys

I'm not sure if it had been asked before but I would like to submit the idea of adding a place to put embassies for other sites. A place where people can post their sites and add information about them and then discuss them or ask questions about them. Of cource, you would need to put a posting limit before anyone could post a site link so that they have to actually get involved in the site and not just join to post a site. I have seen it succeed in many sites and bring many members to new sites. For instance Xander went to GotF and posted a link for this site at our embassy and I believe like 5 members from over there came here. I know many people have posted their sites and stuff on the link thread, but many of those sites are way in the back where no body looks at them anymore. This is an easy way to bring and send members to other sites and explain the sites on this one.

I love how all the sites eventually come to share the others' ideas.
Xander Vos

Try as I might, we haven't yet adopted an advanced RP system much to my dissapointment.

About Embassies... I'm completely 50-50 about it. Whilst its a good idea, I'm not sure if it suits this site.
Kisuk Kolar

Why not? It has many benefits to the site. The problem would be people only joining and posting their sites on it and never coming back but you can solve that by posting either a rank restriction or a post limit of posting a site.
Xander Vos

Hmm, but then if they don't get promoted they would complain its only because we don't want to know about their site, or something like that, and it all gets complicated. I think we're fine the way we are. We have the link thread, and people can post their forums there.
Dork of Mordork

Link thread is all we need. Wink

Yeah, all we need is a link thread.

It would have disadvantages and advantages, but I think more disadvantages.
Kisuk Kolar

List them
Lyn Korak

Well, there's not many, but one of them is the thing that Xander said. Lol, I had a mind blank about half an hour ago. I can't remember a thing I said.
Kisuk Kolar

People complaining about ranks is not necessaraly a disadvantage and can be fixed easily. By disadvatage, I mean things that would hurt the site.
Lyn Korak

True.
Anakin

I think Embassies are a good idea.
Xander Vos

There doesn't need to be disadvatages. Only advantages. Can you list an example of an advantage to allowing people to post entire threads for their sites rather than a single post in the Link thread?

Oh, and on the topic of disadvantages:

- It'd promote the idea of spam once reaching a certain rank.

- Once people join, they'll acheive said rank and then leave once having posted a link.

- People will begin arguing over sites and which is better.

- Creating an entire forum for it would mean more space taken up when it could be used on something more useful.

Just to name a few. Wink

I believe as well with 50-50 reasoning here.

I don't know many people who would put in the effort to gain said rank just to post the site.

There's already, from what I've seen so far, aruging over other things though I've been on sites where they did have advertising of other sites and all that had happened was someone posted details about one and it was left at that.

Though I do agree with it could lead to some people who have nothing better to do to come and spam to get to the certain rank. As well I think creating an entire forum for this could be used on something better but I don't really mind that at all and it as well could be implemented as just a topic, though in a topic it could just become very jumbled.

-No it worn't since there will be a place to post your site so there will be no need to promote it somewhere else. And if they do, just tell them to post it in the proper place, like you have been doing with certain topics. So it won't really change.

-No, not if they like the site and have put, as you say, work into the site and posted and they liked the site. And you could say your embassy will be deleted if they do not remain active.

-People do that anyway right now without the embassy so it won't change and you could post a sticky saying to respect other sites and stuff like that.

-This will be useful as a way to gather more members and to form a "unity" with other sites

just to name how to solve to disadvantages

and for the advantages of posting one link on one topic, well it is a more organized way to get people to ask qustions and for people to post full information about the sites and for poeple to continue to view it without it getting lost all the way in the back of the links topic for people not to see it again since peope just go to the new topics.
Xander Vos

- You're saying people would need to be a certain rank to post their Embassy, or a certain amount of posts. This promotes them just posting to gain rank.

- Fair point.

- Fair point.

- We have unity with TDSL, and TDSL with TSC, so we are like "cousins" with TSC. That's all the unity we need.
Kisuk Kolar

-As I said, if they like the site, they won't leave. And I do not know anyone who would waste their time on just rising the ranks to just post an embassy that will be deleted once they leave. So it may promote it, but it won't matter.

-I wasn't refering to a unity with those sites but with other ones from all over. And I never thought of them as united at all, except TDSL, but only because they are sister sites.

If you truly want to stop people from making one then leaving, I have a suggestion. Make it a requirement that if a embassy is not updated, or if nothing has happened them simply state "Nothing has happened" just so we know they are updating the Embassy, within 3-4 weeks, the Embassy will be deleted.

I have suggested how to prevent all the negative points of this
Xander Vos

That still doesn't mean it'll be implemented. At this time we just don't see a need. We have had no members coming in desperate to show off their boards in any way that they can't through the link thread.
Kisuk Kolar

Still, it isn't up to just you but the rest of the admins and the Council.
Xander Vos

I never said it was.

Keep in mind that I can see private conversations, and lets just say no one has brought it up, so...
Lord Vexen

you can see PMs.....oh wait the Jedi council section.

Well TSC has the foriegn embassies and DSL has the Diplomatic Corps and it works fine for us
Xander Vos

And not having one works fine for us.
Anakin

OWNED.
Kisuk Kolar

People forget

And you can't decide it for the rest of the people, I know, you didn't say you were
