Computers that blow

Blarg... I have a pretty decent laptop. Not the best but is pretty good for casual use. Well over the past few days it won't turn on properly. It turns on but the display doesn't come on(the monitor). Now today..it won't turn on at all ='(. Could this be Windows? the card in the computer? virus?"

IDK what to do here because the screen isn't on so I can't fix what I can't see. My only comfort at this point is Xbox live.

I would Google search but this computer is so slow that by tomorrow when someone writes a reply I'll get to read it sooner...for some reason Rebels is pretty fast and the rest of the internet is like turtling.

A new type of virus does the same thing...

Did you happen to download a new security program called something like Windows security 2009...and it appeared like a Windows update?
Lord Embeion

I have recently done a bunch of Window updates.. and yes it did start after I did.. so system restore will fix this? But IDK it was the desktop update, I didn't download any update from online.

Theres your problem. It was disguised as one. I honestly don't know how to fix it...but a system restore should fix it...or at least help get rid of it.
Lord Embeion

Blarg I googled "Windows Security 2009 virus" and it said the only way to get rid of it was to delete the files manually(and that it will most likely reinstall itself), or buy a really good Anti-Spyware.

It's a pain to cuz I'm changing all my passwords from this computer in hopes that if I can't get rid of the virus that it won't jack my accounts. Sadly though theres quite a few that if I change won't make a difference until it's fully deleted.

and I tried a system restore to Vista service pack 1 and the screen hasn't turned on since mad that last post.

Lul I'm sitting here praying that someone will come by and be like "Oh that happended to me! this is what you do!"
Rive Caedo

How did you do a system restore if you can't see the screen?

In any case, if you can get that far: I'd install...

AVG Antivirus (run a complete scan)
Lavasoft Adaware (run a complete scan)
Spybot Search and Destroy (run a complete scan)
and then run AVG again.
Lord Embeion

It works like once out of 500 trys (literally 500..)

Spybot didn't detect anything..nor did McAfee. I'll try downloading Adaware now.
Rive Caedo

Oh, ha. Well then guess what? I get to say: "Oh that happened to me!"

Unfortunately, my "This is what you do!" probably won't apply to you.

That happened to my Macbook Pro. I got all my files off of it via firewire booting and the extremely rare times when the display would come on (1 in 30ish). Then I took it to an Apple Store.

"Mmm.... mmhmmm. Looks like the logic board is fried."

They replaced the logic board (valued at $1200 or so) under my AppleCare warranty and it's worked fine since.

2007 something or other, I am so proud of my 8800 GTX

If you are on the internet and something pops up saying you have a virus and to download this immediately, don't.

I dunno.. I musta ether been really tired and the download slipped by or it looked very legit with all the trademarks and not off the internet.
Scion

Not mods for a game off a trusted website that thousand of others have, but being on some random website and getting a message saying your computor is infected and you need to download this now to fix it.
Crozeus

Oh, right.

Ya

You shouldn't have to worry about game-mods if you get them off a more professional site like Curse.

The pop-up for the "Your Computer is infected! scan for viruses and spyware immediately!" looks completely fake and usually would come up on your browser.
