COD5: World at War

Fluff, they've handed the reigns to Treyarch!  Crying or Very sad
Lord Invictus

This stinks... First of all, stupid world war II.... second of all, stupid Pacific theatre.... Sad

CoD4 was such a success because is WASN'T  in WW2...

Exactly. WWII is fun, but it's outdated. There are so many WWII games, and the Modern Warfare theme is just ready to be built upon.
Rive Caedo

Well putting it int he Pacific theater is interesting. The only game I've played that went there at all was Battlefield 1942.

I never even bothered buying Call of Duty 4, since I was having too much fun with Team Fortress 2 at the time. So I suppose I could care less where they head with the series  Confused
I would pick it up now, but they're still charging full price for it.
Lord Invictus

I've had bad experiences in the Pacific Theatre of gameplay. Medal of Honor Rising Sun... ugh! There are a few fun levels, but for a lot of the game your running in the jungle waiting for enemies to pop out of bushes to kill you....
Scion

They gave TReyarch COD3 and it sucked, so this doesn't look interesting at all.  Plus I would rather INfinity Ward work on someting that isn't COD.

Oh and Rive you really aren't missing anytihng, it's basic multiplayer with a ranking structure.
Lord Invictus

Call of Duty 4, by my standards, was an amazing game! I loved it. Sorry, Rive...

Screw the multiplayer, The campaign was some of the most fun I've had in single player since I last snuggled up to my copy of Mass Effect.  The flashback to chernobyl mission was probably the best if not one of, shooter missions, period.

Oh and for all you pc-tards who just had to wait, go get it now.  Jeez, Phail.

Never seen Dakoth like that before...but he is right. I loved the single player more than the multiplayer.

Although...the last mission in 20 seconds is nearly impossible.

Well that sounds a bit interesting.

I really enjoyed the Stalingrad level of Call of Duty... 2? I think. Approaching the beach in the boats as orders are shouted at you while bullets shoot over your head and you see other boats being destroyed around you was one of the most immersing experiences I've seen in a video game to date.
Lord Invictus

By the way, what the heck's up with the squad system?! That's what got me mad at MoH European Assault.

Chernobyl is better. My favorite quotes of the game come from it. Including my favorite part. "Oi, Suzy!!"
Dakoth

The creepiest part about it had to be the drop zone though.  a day or so before  I beat the level I was watching a special on the History Channel.  It. Looked. Exactly. The. Same.

CoD: 4 = Great game. The mutliplayer is pretty standard fare, but its standard fare done to perfection.

Check IGN for 4 new online deathmatch videos. I'm sold. This game looks exactly like COD4 gameplay with better graphics and better maps. The maps are huge, but are populated by tons of buildings and cover. It should make for some insane long range and short range opportunities and it looks pretty intense. It looks like they didn't ruin anything from COD4 and made it better in every way. This is now my #1 game I'm looking forward to after watching the multiplayer videos.
Anakin

Its pretty much a very upgraded COD4 and set into a different enviroment, weapons, and era which I'm very glad about. I know people are kind of hazed by the fact that it goes back to WW2, and I understand but like Rive said, I think since it delves into the Pacific War, it can offer much more oppertunites.
Lord Embeion

Wow.. it's CoD4 with new skins. PHAIL. Not buying this
Anakin

New skins? Nah. New everything Very Happy

Lord Embeion wrote:

It doesn't really matter.

CoD4 didn't have many flaws to begin with...no need for extreme makeover, video game edition. They glossed over the few flaws, improved the maps and graphics, and thus, the multiplayer will kick more butt.

EDIT: Oh, yeah. Martyrdom and Juggernaut better be gone....
Sirak Sazen

Everyone should stop whining about the fact it's in WWII. I could care less how many lousy WWII shooters are out there. If the game is good, I'll buy it regardless. While I admit COD4 was a nice change, Call of Duty was built around World War II games.
Anakin

I'm just surprised they haven't touch on the Vietnam War. Commies in Multiplayer! Woot!

Anakin wrote:

There have been some Vietnam games and they all pretty much sucked. I've heard rumors of a new Medal of Honor game being placed in Afganistan.
Scion

Ever since CoD4 became the 'next big thing', I really just want war shooters to stop now.  Especially WWII.  I bought COD4 (At target for a discounted price of $20), played through the campaign in a day, got bored of the multiplayer in minutes, haven't touched it since.  In fact, I thinkg I spent more time on the character creation screen of NWN2 than the campaign of COD4.

I will never buy a WWII shooter again (Granted, COD4 wasn't WWII, but the frnchise is assosciated with it).  If designers can't come up with there own ideas and make something refreshing, I am not going to support them for the same game I played on my GC 7 years ago.

Crysis:Warhead, R2, GoW2, Killzone 2, Halo 3, The Conduit>CoD: WaW

2/3 of those games aren't even out yet and I know they are better.
Lord Embeion

Blarg!

While I admit that it looks awesome.. it's just new maps and guns for multi-player. I'll prob pick up a used version somewhere down the line.

Blarg!

I do agree with Scion on blowing through campaign. But it was still good enough that I replayed on Veteran. The online multi-player does get boring quick if your not playing with friends.
Anakin

Like Scion said Killzone 2 looks like a very promising FPS thats being released soon.
Lord Vexen

I'm saving money for Gears 2....maybe Halo: Recon...but I doubt it.
Lord Embeion

Halo 3: Recon comes out in a year... They should be releasing the Mythic Map Pack soon though

GoW2 is automatic buy

CoD 5: World at War= Looks good but is still CoD4 + wtb new storyline

Yeah but am I the only one who really liked CoD4? Plus, the Japanese theater had been untouched by Call of Duty. And all things accounted, that was a totally different war than the one in Europe.

Lol. It's still not on my immediate to-buy list. I'll probably watch X-Play and see what they say. They're usually pretty accurate.
Scion

X-Play hasn't been reliable since they started taking themselves seriously.

3/5 for Crysis and 2/5 for The Darkness?

Meanwhile they have an episode where they throw out 4 5/5's in a row.
Sirak Sazen

Well I haven't watched much lately but I do remember Crysis and the Darkness. I still thought the Darkness sucked and Crysis just takes to much harware to run.

When did they been taking themselves seriously? Like really?  Shocked

This looks awesome! But really, Zombie Nazis? This better be a multiplayer thing or I'm going to start questioning CoD's historical accuracy.  Wink

It's in the campaign as a bonus level.

At least that had some realism. I'm mean, shoot terrorists, get prisoner, jump from plane.

This: Set up weapons in a worn out bunker and fight off Nazi zombies. WTF.
Anakin

This is just for fun, and I think its actually creative besides the same boring things they do. It shows they're thinkin outside the box.
Lord Invictus

It's independent of the main story- it's an after the credits bonus thing they do. I like it, actually.
Sirak Sazen

Inspired by the zombie level, my current endeavor is to create a zombie-survival RP forum. The boost from Left 4 Dead's release should help with that.
The Chosen One

I pre-ordered this the 7th, unfortunately for me, it's coming the 18th(even though it came out yesterday).

I tried the multiplayer beta on PC, and it was loads of fun. The casting of Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Oldman was an awesome addition, and hearing their voices yell at you ingame is epic. Nothing like Jack Bauer yelling "THEY HAVE THE BOMB" to pump you up during a gunfight.

Joke aside, it feels much, much more refined than CoD 4. Less nade spam, a perk to reduce explosive damage, tanks, and dogs instead of aimbot helicopters among other things. Overall it feels much better, and the maps are way better. I've always been a World War 2 fanatic, loving the history during the war, so I'm looking forward to getting it in the mail. The only thing that put me off from the game, is the use of hacks, exploits, and cheats in MP, but that's always a risk in online gaming.
Crozeus

For PC, that is.

Yeah, exactly! His voice is pefect for this game. I'd obey that voice, knowing that it's source might bite my juggular vein.  Wink

This game looks great and I'm not sure when its gonna be in stores over near me. The shipping date was offically "Novem 11" yet its not even here.
The Chosen One

Crozeus wrote:

Well, exploits can be exploited on any platform. For example, the under the map bug in Roundhouse was first found on the 360 beta.

But yeah, more on the game, the only thing disappointing is the unrealistic recoil and accuracy. People being able to run around hipshooting MG42's with such pinpoint accuracy is such a turn off from a realism standpoint. It was primarily a bipod mounted machine gun, not a Rambo-esque gun.
Crozeus

Yeah.
Gawd I hate that glitch. Fun, but so annoying on S&D. I hope they took it out of the full game. I remember glitching on CoD MW so much, although never in game (much)
Anakin

Okay, first day of having it. Meh, I'm a little iffy on the maps compared to COD4, on some of them are HUGE when theres only like 12 people.

However, I love the Sniping, new perks, campaign is awesome, and the japanese banzai attacks never get old.
Crozeus

I gave it an 8.5.
Anakin

Anyone else got it and wants to put in their two cents?
Journey

I bought and I don't really like the campaign (At least not as much as COD4). "Vendetta" was good but nowhere near as good as "All-Ghillied Up/One Shot, One Kill" (seen as they are in the same mould). The banzai attacks do make it a bit more refreshing (It's even more entertaining when you throw a half-cooked grenade into the grass where you suspect some of them being and watching as you dismember 4-5 of them) but I can't shake the "This just isn't as thrilling as COD4" feeling. The problem I have with the campaign mainly is the American missions, simply because It's all been done before, nothing new. The Russian missions offer a bit more variety but effectively end up the same as the American missions.

The muiltiplayer really shines though IMO. It just feels that bit more refined than COD4. Some of the maps are pretty good and it's actually very enjoyable revisiting the WWII weapons and their take on attachments and perks. The main problem I have with the muiltiplayer is the dogs, they are a great Idea but executed very poorly. I have had the dogs unleashed on me at least about 15 times, I've been killed once, and killed at least about 45 dogs.

I would give the game 9.0/10.0. 8.5 for the campaign and 9.5 for muiltiplayer.
Dakoth

I just cant bring myself to care enough to even look at this game tbh.
Crozeus

I don't want to play the multiplayer, for the reason that I don't want to end up playing it for so long like on 4. There are too many great games out there, I don't want to spend all my time on the multiplayer, which doesn't even reward you. Going all the way to 10th prestige on CoD: MW was a huge mistake.

You can't blame them for that, though. It's a WW2 shooter, so there really isn't much to do in the way of making for a unique experience. The WW2 setting has been milked in shooters. Still, they did pretty damn good, in my opinion. I find it weird that you'd say the Russian missions were better, when I find the whole "Road to Berlin" on the Eastern front so played out. The American missions seem far more entertaining and unique, in my opinion. That was at least not commonly seen in a WW2 game; the Pacific front.

Maybe I should have played CoD 4, as I can't really relate to the whole "this isn't as thrilling" feeling.

As for the dogs, I can't really understand why that's a problem. You seem more like you're disappointed that the dogs don't rape your face off, than them truly being poorly implemented. Which is a good thing, in my opinion. They're supposed to be a small side reward for kill streaks that should aid in distracting the enemy and catching them off guard, not destroying the entire other team. Even so, I've gotten like 4 or 5 more kills because of dogs. That's good enough for me.

Dakoth wrote:

Blasphemy.

Crozeus, might I suggest playing the game for fun? I find it far more enjoyable and relaxing that way.
Crozeus

Oh, I do play it for fun, but with all the great games out there that are equally fun I see no point as there isn't anything, really, to draw you in. There are still some things in there that will annoy you, just like in MW. I know, from the beta.

Heathens. Thats all that can be said.
Crozeus

As enjoyable as the multiplayer is, he's right in the fact that it is copy/paste. All maps are simply taken straght out of the campaign with a little tweaking to make it suitable for multiplayer.

I haven't finished the SP yet, but I don't recall seeing Roundhouse or Castle in any mission. Even if they were, they work well, so this really isn't a point to be negative about.

I see your point, but I simply preferred the Russian missions, just like it's your opinion that the American missions are more varied from the norm. I just find that just because the source material is different it doesn't make the missions better (A message I should have conveyed far better in my last post), the Russian push to Berlin is something that has been used in a few more WWII games but the way that it's pulled off in WaW is different from incarnations previous, from the afformentioned 'Vendetta' to excecuting Nazi troops on the streets of Berlin.

After I posted that though and I continued with the campaign and I have to admit, I'm starting to feel the American missions a lot more, not that they were bad before.

The fact that you didn't play CoD4 pretty much answers why you responded to the thing about the dogs the way that you did. In CoD4 the reward for a 7 kill streak was a helicopter which was pretty much a guaranteed 3-5 kills (Barring the enemy shooting it down quick enough), sometimes even 10+ depending on the map, it just seems a bit strange that the imapct of the award would indeed by reduced. But you make a very good point, they do cause a lot of havoc (so did the 'copter mind you) which allows you to get the jump on opponents.
Crozeus

You are waiting for a snipe, leading your target, lining up his head, your finger tightens on the trigger...

A helicopter shoots you, your shot goes astray and you die.

Sniping on COD4 ^^

That's why I play Search and Destroy. Best mode for sniping and you rarely ever see a helicopter.
