...Of the Year Awards?Who else would like to have some [INsert thing here] of the year? imagine if we named something of the year and it gets advertised (Unlikely, but I have seen obscure sights get mentioned befor).

We've done these every year except for last year I believe.
They are generally in the June-July period.

Maybe it would help boost activity, I'm kind of just brainstorming here.
I meant that like the Academy Awards, but for our site. Xander seemed to understand.

So you dont mean the Forum awards but more something along the lines of
Best Movie:
Best Console Game:
Funniest Moment:
like that kind of stuff?

We could do both, but that's what my original post was about.
Even if just to increase site traffic.

I would see no reason against such a thing, Traffic is Traffic. as long as it doesnt bring up unpleasant google ads.

I think we can name the abortion thread in the debate section the most controversial thread.
|
Xander Vos
|
Well, most successful controversial thread. There's been a few.
Most active thread is Chat Thread obviously.
But yeah, I like the idea of all that sort of thing.
Like:
- Most interesting thread of the year
- Funniest thread of the year
- Biggest contributor of the year
- Funniest member of the year
- Most controversial thread of the year
- Most controversial member of the year
- Most helpful member of the year
etc.
I like the idea of mixing member awards with thread awards, as it awards not only the member who created it, but also the people who contributed to it.

I'll try to answer your's, Xander, and add best roleplay:
Like:
- Most interesting thread of the year: Most debate threads, but the link thread takes the cake for being continually supplied with more and more information of various importance
- Funniest thread of the year: Official Spam thread involving Dathokius' ostrich incident
- Biggest contributor of the year: Rive, and perhaps Xander as well in second.
- Funniest member of the year: Dakoth, wins every time
- Most controversial thread of the year: Abortion
- Most controversial member of the year: Either Samuel or myself, depending on your subjective point of view (this, I would assume, would usually be a point of view in abortion)
- Most helpful member of the year: Xander, by far.
-Best Roleplay: A Galaxy Without Sin

I was just going to ask that, a mod or admin should preferably set it up, as they would have greater control over the threads.

Of course, if that becomes an award we might as well just think up some obscure award for every member, then they wouldn't really mean anything.

That might be taken by me.
NEvermind, my absence was only for 9 months.
|
Jiub

Maybe we should make it 9 months then. Have a vote to see who people think is the "better member". Would be interesting because you have more good friends but I have fewer enemies. It would probably create a flame war though, seeing as how a lot smaller things do. Besides, the thread would have little to do with me, it would be decided by the difference between people who like Sam and the people who seem to hate Sam. There are a few that might not be like that, but I don't know.
Actually, maybe we should have an award for the thread with the least amount of spam and flaming for the year. Are there any that don't have spam and flaming in them?

Sorry, but I don't think that you were the most active member of the year. It definitely wasn't me, but it would probably go to Sirak or Korus, maybe someone else I don't know. Sirak came in late, but he made over 2,000 posts in about 5 months I think.
|
Crozeus
|
You have no idea. Don't you notice that almost all the time, when you come on, I'm here. I've been here since November and didn't really do anything until late after.
|
Jiub
|
You: 11.09 posts per day, Sirak: 16.09, Korus: 13.68 (though most of those are from other years), me: 1.67 (guess I'm not winning, and most of my posts are from another year), Sam: 6.81 posts per day (he has also made a lot of posts in other years, but both me and him have had long absences which hurt our scores.)
This is not the most accurate measurement of who is most active, not by far, but it does show that you are running about 3rd. Xander was here for more of 2008 than you or Sirak, so it is likely that he has made the most posts for the year, but Sirak has made a lot in the amount of time he has been here so he might also have the most. I would say whoever has the most posts for the year would be the most active member of they year.
|
Crozeus
|
Ok - Sirak posts a lot, doesn't mean he is on here a lot. Alex has the highest post count here. On TDSL Shadow rarely even gets one post a day (sometimes) and has 20000+ posts, therefore has like 15 a day.
Measuring it on post count is foolish. You could simply spam. Or flame, or post after someone in every thread. I will probably have made 2000 in 5 months, considering this has more posts flying than TDSL and I made 2000 in 5 months there.

I've gotten like, 2500 since late july.

Is there any way for an admin to see how many posts someone has made between two specified dates?

You could always count,

Heh, especially if you were counting all posts for a year.

Not really...all you have to do is go to find posts by Xander Vos/Korus Zett...find how many number of posts are on one page...then go back "x" number of pages until you get into posts from 2007. Then just multiply the # of pages by the # of posts per page.
Simple math.

I picture the guy from Heros saying that (due to your avatar), and to say the least, I'm impressed.

Thanks.
I actually had a math test that morning I was studying for...and thats what came up.
|
Crozeus
|
What?
Korus has made x number of posts since 2007. He has made 50 posts per page, and he has made x-y number of pages. If y=Total number of posts/Posts before 2007, find x.
Although that would be impossible.
|
Xander Vos
|
Not really... picture it more like a rectangle that you're trying to find the area of. You times the length - amount of pages - by the height - amount of posts per page.
|
Crozeus
|
I haven't given enough values and we're assuming you can't look them up.

15 posts per page, I believe, though I might be wrong.

No, Vexen and I mean going to a User's profile, and then clicking that link to 'Find All Posts By This User'.

Yes, that shows 15 posts per page.
